It doesn't really matter, but hey. Speech, why not?

Dark Nation May 25, 2009 11:09 PM

Oh ok, I thought perhaps it would be like "Well the Speech versions suck horribly but they are included for completeness sake", which is what I was thinking in my mind.

In that case, sweet.

Paco May 25, 2009 11:24 PM

Are those images playable on a Mac? I want so badly to play these games and I've never been able to load them onto my Mac.

No. Hard Pass. May 26, 2009 12:16 AM

Should be with the mac release of ScummVM

ScummVM :: Home

Paco May 26, 2009 01:36 AM

I don't think I say this to you enough, Deni. But I love you. <3

No. Hard Pass. May 26, 2009 02:32 AM

Always glad to help, fella.

Omnislash124 May 26, 2009 10:09 AM

Well, I didn't plan on posting a small bit and adding on to it slowly until it became the final edition, but I accidentally pressed Submit instead of preview partway through.

In any case, my entry is done. Screenshots of a GBA game seem underwhelming, so I wasn't sure what else to use to break up walls of text.

wvlfpvp May 26, 2009 12:54 PM

I'm SO not grabbing that complete torrent. I mean, I own the monkey island collection (still haven't played 4) and I'm currently playing through Grim Fandango on my jewel case version, but hey. It's got Full Throttle. Life is good. I'll need to burn a copy of that for my dad and get his computer to run it.

Also: Does ScummVM automatically read the CD images or just the games that weren't CD to begin with?

Curse and Escape both have fantastic voice acting. So yes. Play with voice acting. Dominic Armato does Guybrush Threepwood justice and then some. He loves the community to boot.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 26, 2009 04:59 PM

While Sacred Stones is a good game with likable characters, I think it's probably my least favorite of the Fire Emblems that have been localized. The branching promotion paths were nifty, but it's just so easy compared to the others. By the end most of my party were unstoppable gods, especially Tana the pegasus knight, and I didn't do any of that world map grinding. Of course, that also makes it a good game to start with for people new to the series.

Is it just me, or are all the music links broken? I can't get any of them to play. :(

Pretty much all FE games are easy by the end if you play them right. The only characters you should have to consider approaching cautiously by the end are bosses.

That said, FUCK YEAH TANA. FUCK YEAH PEGASUS KNIGHTS IN GENERAL. Marcia is the best and if you don't agree you are a suckers.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 26, 2009 05:20 PM

Marcia was decent, but who needs her once you've got Jill flying around, slaughtering everything that moves? Wyvern riders are where it's at when it comes to flying units.

Tails May 26, 2009 05:26 PM

Fool! Jill isn't a Pegasus Knight so she can't be the best. IIRC there's always been more ballin' Peg Knights like Sheeda than there has Wyv Riders.

The real thing is to combine them all into a flying death army. Jill and Marcia were always in my top 3 as far as units killed, with Mia (FUCK YEAH MIA) cleaning up the ground units.

Jill + Marcia + The Hawks (preferably Janaff because Ulki is slower. A Tibarn is fine too) = holy shit everything dies.

Krelian May 27, 2009 07:51 AM

FUCK YES LIVE A LIVE. It's actually one of the games I was considering covering what with it being one of Square's most out-there games. Dispatching every enemy in the ninja chapter was a hell of a chore, though...

Last summer a really nice translation patch came out - it tweaks the script, adds a few polished graphical hacks and includes a new font for each episode. Definitely worth checking out; grab it here.

[05/29/09 - 01:05:54] <@CHz> also skills
[05/29/09 - 01:05:58] <@CHz> hawkeye just posted golden sun in the gamers month thread
[05/29/09 - 01:06:00] <@CHz> please fix this
[05/29/09 - 01:06:16] <+Mo0> not until someone fixes that godawful FFVI post
[05/29/09 - 01:07:03] <&Colonel_Skills> Well. I'm just glad he didn't post Lufia: The Ruins of Lore at this point.
[05/29/09 - 01:07:42] <&Colonel_Skills> Golden Sun is the least of my worries
[05/29/09 - 01:07:55] <&Colonel_Skills> alternatively since he lives in Winnipeg I can go kill him IRL
[05/29/09 - 01:07:58] <&Colonel_Skills> would that be sufficient
[05/29/09 - 01:08:46] <@CHz> Maybe, let me actually read this post first.
[05/29/09 - 01:09:16] <+Mo0> It's not very good.
[05/29/09 - 01:09:34] <+Mo0> I mean Hawkeye is a nice guy and all but I seriously think he may actually be 15 years old.
[05/29/09 - 01:09:56] <@CHz> "All things considered, Golden Sun has a very basic story." at least you admit it
[05/29/09 - 01:10:03] <@CHz> "The story doesn't seem terribly complex, but playing through Golden Sun, The Lost Age (the sequel to this game) explains a lot of the story and fleshes out the characters a lot better." no it doesn't
[05/29/09 - 01:10:11] <+Mo0> no it doesn't
[05/29/09 - 01:10:18] <@CHz> "Isaac and his allies come across various interesting people and cultures" no they don't
[05/29/09 - 01:10:42] <+Mo0> "I’m really not very good at reviewing games" we noticed
[05/29/09 - 01:11:03] <+Mo0> "for all intensive purposes" NO
[05/29/09 - 01:11:08] <+Mo0> THIS IS NOT CORRECT
[05/29/09 - 01:11:09] <@CHz> ^^^^^^^^^
[05/29/09 - 01:11:20] <@CHz> "I almost forgot. The music is awesome." no it's not; wish you had
[05/29/09 - 01:11:26] <+Mo0> ^^
[05/29/09 - 01:11:50] <+Mo0> "In conclusion, I think that I enjoy this game most for its simplicity." you don't sound very sure of that
[05/29/09 - 01:12:14] <@CHz> "I'd give samples, but doing so would be incredibly impractical and difficult due to the lack of preparation on my part." wrote this ten minutes ago
[05/29/09 - 01:12:30] <+Mo0> "The game is very linear, without too much for character development, story, complex puzzles, or any of the other things I usually look for in a game...this game is probably the one which sold me on the (J)RPG genre when I was younger." what
[05/29/09 - 01:12:34] <&Colonel_Skills> copy pastaing this into the discussion thread
[05/29/09 - 01:12:37] <@CHz> let me quote that again
[05/29/09 - 01:12:38] <@CHz> "The game is very linear, without too much for character development, story, complex puzzles, or any of the other things I usually look for in a game."
[05/29/09 - 01:12:52] <@CHz> here once more
[05/29/09 - 01:12:52] <@CHz> "The game is very linear, without too much for character development, story, complex puzzles, or any of the other things I usually look for in a game."

GRAMMAR FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Scent of a Grundle May 29, 2009 01:51 AM

fair enough. no one's ever actually said it slowly enough for me to be able to tell which it was.

No. Hard Pass. May 29, 2009 01:52 AM

Yeah, still mad about the FF VI thing.

value tart May 29, 2009 01:53 AM

Sorry, that particular common error is one of my pet peeves.

They're are a couple other errors that tend to be their with the other ones, but if you use English the write weigh I tend not to complain, so.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 29, 2009 01:56 AM

Screw you Skills, I loved Golden Sun. Sure it was a fairly basic RPG combat-wise, but it was still a lot of fun finding and combining the djinn. I remember playing GS to death back when I was in middle school, and I still regret not finishing Lost Age while I still remembered what was going on. One of these days I'll skim an FAQ to catch up and complete it.

Also, why is Hawkeye the one being mocked when Pang managed to ruin the perfect run of everyone posting on time?

value tart May 29, 2009 01:59 AM

Well, the last line is kind of bizarre. "I don't like this kind of game, but it sold me on JRPGs!"

Also I'm out of post ratings for today, Pang's getting a diss from me tomorrow.

Why are you yelling at Skills, all he did was post what CHz and I were saying.

This is why we check these things before we write them. I mean really, I could care less if we continue to take language for granite. It's sort of a mute point anyway. Then again, I could rapidly do a 360 on the subject and come to a new perspective. I may just be using Hawkeye as an escape goat, though. His usage of english literally makes my head want to explode though. Literally.

Oh, not going to argue about the last line. That was pretty amusing.

As for Skills, he's just an easy target. Shooting the messenger and such.

Angel of Light May 29, 2009 02:09 AM

Despite if people thought Hawkeye didn't write a very good review, I'm just happy for the fact that he participated. You are a good member on this site Hawkeye, compared to some of the idiots that gone and went on this site.

I propped everybody who took time out of their day to participate in this event.

Golden Sun is actually going to be one of the next games I'm going to purchase. I had seen plenty of people play it and it also came across to me as a very enjoyable rpg for the GBA.

You know guys, with one day left, I am absolutely impressed with the dedication that each and every member did with their gaming review. I'm even more impressed that we managed to fill out every day for the month and I hope this is one event that will live on with GFF.

I don't necessarily think my review was particularly great, I can't really dissect games as much as you guys have and I think my review is still one of the shortest out of everybody's. I probably should of included pictures.

Regardless, all we have left is Pangalin's review but as he said; he has had a lot on his plate lately, and then we have Terra's review on the 30th.

I'll be writing some input, of the other games that have been mentioned, since my last post went only up to Valkyrie Profile. I just got home a couple of minutes ago, so I'll have plenty of time over the next 8 days to talk about some of the games that have been mentioned.

Rockgamer May 29, 2009 02:28 AM

I have fond memories of Golden Sun. Not because it's a good game or anything (it isn't), but because it was one of the first GBA games I ever played. Back in my freshman year of high school, my friend Richard had a GBA and my group of friends and I would go to the library and play it in the mornings before class started. The only games he had at the time was Golden Sun and Tekken Advance (also terrible), but fuck, I didn't even care because a game was a game and I'd rather be doing anything other than dreading the school upcoming school day.

So we would sit there playing these clearly terrible games just because they were there. Golden Sun was definitely the lesser of the two, as it was the most generic RPG I had played at the time (and probably still is as of today). At least in Tekken, we had fun trying to beat each others' times in survival mode, but with Golden Sun, we had to suffer in solitude.

So you know what, fuck Richard. I have no idea where he is now, but fuck him and his terrible taste in games. And fuck Camelot for making this terrible game to begin with.

No offense is meant to Hawkeye for liking this game...unless he's Richard.
