Fantastic to hear about the free DLC for both platforms. Of additional note for us on the PC side, is this tidbit:

Ok, just bought L4D, so now this better be the best damned thing since sliced TF2 otherwise I'm going to be .
Also, not going to get to play at all this (long) weekend since my girlfriend is coming over. :( For any of you guys here I'm not currently buddies with, I'm currently: [WTFk] RacinReaver |

Okay; I've been playing this a whole lot recently, and I'm starting to actually fare pretty decently in versus. Steam name is fnool; I'd be delighted to wreck shit with you guys.

Alright, just tried to play this darned game in single player and was met with this weird stuttering issue where every few seconds the game would pause and sound would loop for 1-5 seconds. The demo ran great, I tried setting graphics settings lower, and I've restarted twice.
Edit: Just tried the game in multiplayer and it did the same fucking thing. Arg. |
Two things:
Are you playing on a multicore system, and if so, have you tried disabling multicore rendering in the game options? or, if that doesn't work— are you running an Nvidia card? The newest drivers have some problems with L4D since the latest patch, so it's recommended to roll back to 178.24. |
Yes to both of those, but I found a fix that said to play the game in windowed without borders and you can keep whatever drivers you have as well as multicore on, and it worked for me. Haven't tried multiplayer yet, just went through the first few levels on single player without a problem. Well, other than me apparently sucking compared to when I played the demo, but no PC related issues now.
|
I had the sound stuttering problem and it was precisely cause of the nvidia driver. I rolled back to a previous driver and multicore works fine. If one has the latest driver, disabling multicore removes the stuttering and I didn't spot much of a visual difference.

Apologies to anybody who tried to join our game tonight and got bounced. We were testing the "City Naniwa" custom campaign and (obviously) random joiners wouldn't have the files.
As for the campaign itself, I absolutely do not recommend it. It's a bland, miserable maze with absolutely no indication of where the fuck you're supposed to go. |

I don't have a gaming PC so I bought this for 360. I also have a throat infection that's going to keep me doped on on painkillers and penicillin for the next few days and would love to pop zombies with someone for a while. Anyone else have it on 360?
|
I haven't played in awhile, but I'm always up for a good zombie massacre. Plarom, Omagnus, and LeHah also have the 360 version, so there's no shortage of teammates even though most people around here bought it for PC.

Same here. I'm down for anything later this day.

Anyone else feel that the Versus multiplayer in this game is really frustrating? Like, randomness is good and all, but the massive variability in the size of hordes, stationary zombie placement, and where pickups pop up just feels so freaking frustrating when one team gets raped and the other one hits nothing. Also, sick of playing on servers where the admin's on and sets their spawn time as infected to 10 seconds than then when it's my turn I get 30 second respawns.
|
I'm perfectly fine with randomness. I'm just tired of being the one guy in every game that doesn't want to Form Voltron. I love this game but it's getting impossible to enjoy Versus when every other player insists on making every single crescendo event into a non-participatory totem pole. For fuck's sake Valve just turn on player collisions. Yes it will cause some griefing but when I literally cannot hit the enemy because they have collapsed into a waveform I am already being griefed thank you very much.
Although making it so only pills and no medkits appear outside of saferooms would do a lot for balance, it's a simple cvar and I wish more servers would use it. |
The free survival pack DLC is coming on the 21st April, so next week, and Valve have updated the L4D blog with details on what to expect, and some information on how they designed the mode:

So, Survival Pack is here. I'm extremely pleased to have Death Toll & Dead Air in versus now, running NM & BH through came in my dreams at some point...
As for the new mode Survivor, it's hellish. My best time with random ppl for the first day is 6,24min, but most of the matches end up nasty around 3 mins. It wouldn't be so bad if THERE WASN'T HORDE + TANK + SPECIALS AT THE SAME TIME OH SHIT WE SURVIVEDWAITNEXTASSAULTISsswwwwwwdddddddwwwsad. :tpg: |
