But imagine how many SIDE QUESTS you can do! =D !

Actually no, I find most of them boring, sup FFX-2, oh wait, those were missions.

Because of a one minute trailer? That's ridiculous. Oh wait, Nomura's working on this one right? Never mind.

The graphics were pretty. That's all I got out of the trailer. Thanks, but I'd rather play a game before I pass judgement on it.

Djinova May 9, 2006 03:17 PM

You guys are pretty quick on avatars and such. (Your new one, SOLDIER, doesn't necessarily look better, but wins the weird face award).

Am I the only one who thinks the new female lead looks hybridized and for that matter not so special?
Cloud+Sora+Yuna+elves...
The hair color could use some innovative colors. So, it looks too ordinary in my opinion. Half of the japanese people color their hair like this.
Ironically the colors used in the background are quite good, they provide a stark contrast to the grey without shining too much.

Soldier May 9, 2006 04:02 PM

I made an alternate avatar, but I wanted to see how both looked. I think this newest one is probably the best.

And as far as hair color goes, I just imagined they were keeping the tradtion that started with Tifa (dark brown), that then moved up to Rinoa, Garnet, Yuna, Ashe, and now ? .

I don't mind the Sci-fi setting, but I sure hope they spend more time in natural areas over other places. The forest shown in the trailer absolutely floored me with its detail.

Definitely. The forrest was really awesome. I'm really hoping for a snowy wonderland.

But you live in one already. It's called Final Fantasy, not Final Canadia.

Freelance May 9, 2006 07:33 PM

I just saw the FFXIII trailer and damn, the battle system looks so awesome. I can't even tell if it's turn-based or real-time. I like how the fights look more...involving than previous FF games. The scenes in which the girl was upside down shooting and stuff reminded me of AC, but it's probably just me.

P.S. I don't like pink hair...erm, at least I think it's pink. Since it's starring a woman, I hope it doesn't end up like FFX-2.

Woh-woh there, our beautiful land is filled with snow only 9 months a year ;)

SO! When does the 1080p trailer comes out?

CuteChocobo May 9, 2006 09:47 PM

Can anyone post HQ rez screen shots of FFXIII?
From what I seen so far the game looks good!

IGN FF13 images page. All the shots there are HIGH resolution!

And looks like alot of people are using this girl as a avatar, and the sigs look so much better than mine... Sadnesss.... I dunn how to photoshop to save my life.

B4-Hunter, your sig looks AWESOME! Reckon you can make one for me with another FF13 girl image? I'll PM about it later, gotta head out.

I also made some mediocre wallpapers out of those shots.

I really love the music that plays in the trailer. I really hope that particular tune is the battle theme. The faster paced battles need a faster paced song, and this one would really work.

NYRSkate May 9, 2006 11:02 PM

I doubt it's the music for anything resembling a battle. If it's from the game, it's likely just from a cutscene. Taken as an example of what to expect, though, I can't help but to shake uncontrollably with anticipation.

God, I hope I'm not 30 when this comes out.

Soldier May 9, 2006 11:07 PM

My sister made the exact same joke (seriously, she says "I'll be 30 by the time it comes out."). I do share her concerns, but the game has been in development since FFXII's repeated delays. I like to play the optimist and think we might get it by next year. It's not like Square delays EVERY game....right?

Sin Ansem May 10, 2006 12:36 AM

I would've thought Nomura would create a new IP, or continue on with Kingdom Hearts, but NOOOO. We get Vs. XIII instead, a sequel to an unreleased game.

So on the very rare case it sells poorly, how about I bitchslap you with my Keyblade. Callin' this shit a new KH. Can I go home now.

I wish you were right about FFXIII being in production for a long time now, but you are wrong. In the Square Press Conference a yesterday, Yoshinori Kitase said that they were originally making the game for PS2, but were then assigned to make the PS3 FF7 Tech Demo for last year's E3. After that, they completely started from scratch on a creating FFXIII for PS3 on a whole newly created game engine. So it's only been in development for 1 year really. It may not be out for a few years. I wish they would work on it 24/7, that would be nice.

Soldier May 10, 2006 01:33 AM

Maybe they can finish it "really fast". :/

Sarag May 10, 2006 01:52 AM

I'd like to think that this whole FF XIII series thing will be similar to Persona II, as in they're two distinct games unto themselves, but enough connection that prior knowlege of one's storyline enhanses the other. Plus it beats retconning folks like FF VII's doing.

Here is another game in the Project: Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...95&postcount=1

Remember, it's not a Tetralogy. None of the games in he Project have anything to do with each other. They all just take place in the same universe, that have Common Mythos. Like Suikoden, Xenosaga and what Lurker said above.

At first glance I liked this, but now I'm not too sure if I like it as much. I just hope there's not one character to play, but multiple like in previous games. I don't want this to be final fantasy: neo returns or anything like FFx-2, this reminds me of that. I like the female main lead character, but I do not want any devil may cry type action. I would be happy even if they went back to the normal turn/atb type fighting with improved graphics, speed, and system.

Freddy Krueger May 10, 2006 01:46 PM

Yeah but they have been doing that from the begining =p so adding in some high octane action scenes for battles would be nice

Interesting, because so far the trend has been 3 Final Fantasy Games per platform, as 7, 8, 9 were on the Playstation, and 10, 11 and 12 were on the PS2, so having the next Final Fantasy be on the PS3 is not that much of a suprise actually.

The multiple sides of this story, as apparently taking place at different points with different characters is different and unexpected, but then again, it allows people to see different sides to a story that may not be able to be presented within the main game.

For example: Yagus, the character from DQVIII obviously has some backstory, and as such they are making a spinoff for that character. If they only held his characters presentment as in the main DQVIII game, a lot of the character's personality and acheivements would not be seen. This may be (in part) the concept behind the multiple title system in Final Fantasy XIII, as there are parts to the story that happen to take place in vastly different timespans or areas, and its nessesary to tell the story through breaking it up into multiple parts. FFXIII probably tells of the main conflict, while Versus might be about the male character's involvement, and the mobile phone tells of the history leading up to the current situation/problem.

This is mostly stipulation on my part, but hopefully you can see what I'm trying to get across: that FFXIII has such a 'large' story in terms of timespan and involvement (It may be even going beyond 'saving' the world, and maybe stopping the world from dying/deconstructing, via the 'crystal; ), that multiple titles are needed to tell the story properly, and allow for elements that would otherwise get snubbed, cast out of the spotlight due to the main character's story.

Well all of this could be thrown out the window, but I'm basing my hypothesis on what little information they have given us, context clues, and shot-in-the-dark guesses.
