Spoiler-fied for those on the west. (And I just realized I need to add more for that recent posts thing)

Spoiler:
Well geesh. How the hell did *he* get off the island? Things must've been *damn* bad for Locke to leave, given how much island love he has.

Not sure if it was just me being stupid or creative work by the writers, but I was definitely being set up for Ben being in that coffin. And then *bam*, there he is talking to Jack.

Smart move with the time framing, looks like we still have 3 years of stuff on the island/off the island to figure out. I did wonder how the show could keep going with them off the island (definitely in a way I didn't see coming)...kinda like how Prison Break could go on without them being in a prison (I haven't watched that show, but I'm sure it's plausible enough).

Cheers for Desmond, glad to see that he finally reunites with Penny. Jeers for Michael though, that's really a crap way to go, but he was always looking for a way to die, he finally "can go".

And I dunno, I feel like Sun still thinks Jin might be alive on the island, which is why she would be willing to work with Widmore, because the man has the resources to find the island.

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Desmond, I see him going after Ben in revenge after Ben fulfills his promise to do something bad to Penny.

Anyway, tis a good season finale for me. I'm definitely ready for more next season. I do need some resolution with Claire, Jack's dad, and Jacob at least.

Oh now I get it.. Frozen Donkey Wheel..

Nice finale, but didn't expect that about the man in the coffin. I wonder what happens to the people who weren't physically on the island.

Spoiler:
I think the reason Locke died is because he stupidly pressed the rewind button while we were all enjoying the Orientation video.

I'm just putting a bunch of crap in here to avoid spoiling the Recent Posts list. Hmmm...okay.

Spoiler:
Actually, I'm thinking that Sun wants to work with Widmore to kill Ben once and for all. She probably found out that it was Ben who "pulled the trigger" causing the freighter to explode.

On a side note: I was very surprised to see Locke laying in the coffin at the end of the episode. How did he get there? How did he even get off the island?
And after all this time, we finally know who the "He" was that Kate was talking about at the end of last season. For the longest time I figured it was Sawyer, even though he wasn't one of the Six.
I thought he might have gotten off the island in some other unexplained way and met up with Kate. Like that was going to be the big reveal in this season (aside from the whole getting off the island thing).

Aardark May 31, 2008 05:39 AM

This was an okay finale, though last year's was definitely much better. No big surprises this time, and there were some weird parts. Like
Spoiler:
the boat explosion CG having been outsourced to a sweatshop, or Keamy's grenade kick and 'u thought I died... but I has armor'. Also, I liked how John gives Jack a ten minute speech about how he's going to do something amazing, and then Ben shows up like 'O you haven't even found the entrance yet' and John is like '...'
Overall it was a great season, though.

I caught up on all of the Lost episodes from the break last night on a shitty streaming website. Silly me couldn't wait to return home and watch them in HD ;_;. ANYWHO, the finale was good. I agree with Aardark, in my opinion the big twist was more "what the fuck" than last years which was more of a "...NO WAY".

My random thoughts on the finale:
Spoiler:

Why Jin ;_;. He was so freaking awesome.

Des and Penny = the best couple in Lost ever.

I thought out of everyone to be in the coffin, it would be Locke. It made the most sense to me really, he doesn't have a real family, he doesn't have friends. Sorta saw that one coming.

As much as I hate him, Ben is a good character. He's such a dweeby bad guy, but nevertheless he is one and it's interesting that he's so pathetic looking.

WONDER WHAT SAWYER SAID TO KATE OHMYGOOSE.

Claire, what the fuck? Didn't see that one coming...

I do like how they got off the island, how it ties in with the flashforwards as it were. Feels like all the loops are tied up now and watching this series over will make more sense.

Musharraf Jun 3, 2008 01:21 AM

I really liked this finale. I was not too surprised about the man in the coffin, since there were not so many people that could possibly lie in it, you know. This finale offered a lot of new material for the next (last?) season and it is definitely going to be interesting.

Well, apparently, something went totally wrong on the island after Jack and the others left it (as he told him), so John wanted to convince them to come back, that's why he met with all of them before he died. It seems that the island can't be the same without them.

Naka Jun 3, 2008 01:44 AM

I really enjoyed the finale as well. I am really curious where they plan on going with things next season.

Spoiler:

I figured Locke got off the Island by moving it again, and possibly being transported to the future in the same sense that Ben was. We know Ben was put forward in time something like 2 years after he moved it. It's hard to say how much time passed before Locke decided to move it.

I also think Sawyer told Kate something about a possible child he might have that he wanted her to tell something to.

That's what I'm thinking happened. Though, the Orchid only threw Ben 10 months into the future. It would explain Locke's taking up of a fake name though, just like Michael. And a clever one, at that.

Clementine Phillips - Lostpedia

Lost Easter Eggs - Lost Whispers - 413 - Sawyer to Kate on Helicopter

Seems pretty conclusive to me.

I'm not sure if this has been posted here yet, but I don't think it has, so... here goes. There was also Kate's dream-phone-call, with the weird whispers. I don't know WHO comes up with these things, but I guess someone out there decided LET'S PLAY IT BACKWARDS AND SEE WHAT IT SAYS, and... well, they were right.

Screencaps and Easter Eggs: Reversed phone message for Kate (*updated*)

Only the second one worked for me, but as far as I know they're both the same, just audio.

That's pretty interesting, maybe now the fact that the video Locke was watching was running backwards makes sense after all!

Morrigan Jun 3, 2008 05:19 PM

Haha yeah good catch, the voice sounds like Locke's too.

Krelian Jun 3, 2008 05:28 PM

Not sure if I'd agree...

"The island needs you" sounds a bit like him, but the rest - not really.

Sousuke Jun 3, 2008 05:40 PM

After listening to it a couple times, I'd say it sounds most like Christian.

Whoa that is awesome. I guess I didnt even realize there was anything audible during that. Good find!

Actually I think it's Locke at the beginning and Christian at the end. Like maybe they both had to tell her.
Or it's just Locke and he sounds strained at the end.

Did anyone see the alternate endings to the season finale? They made these to minimize spoilers.

They should have done a huge mindfuck by having Jack in the coffin. A second Jack!

Thanks for the links guys, really interesting stuff. As for the finale, I'd say it was solid. Very entertaining television, but as for series progression and that sort of stuff, it was lacking a certain flair other finales have had. A few things worth mentioning:

Spoiler:
The Desmond-Penny thing is one of the most heartfelt sideplots of the entire series as far as I'm concerned. Desmond is, like, the most awesome, likeable character, so it's great to see him get back together with his girl (in a rather touching way, too, if I do say so myself).

On the other hand you've got the Sun-Jin thing. Ripped my bloody heart out, it did, seeing Sun screaming from the helicopter as the ship went up in flames. I really warmed to Jin over the last season or so, and it's a shame to see him go (or so we think). Also somewhat moving was Sawyer jumping off the helicopter. Very heroic indeed.

That whole thing with Keamy and his gang getting attacked by the Others was pretty sweet. That Sayid V Keamy match was so damn epic I almost fainted. A tiny bit lame was the body armor excuse, but I can live with it ("Ben, you just killed everybody on that boat!" "...So?" <-- so badass it hurts). As for Locke (I picked it from the start that he was Jeremy, btw) and Ben, their little escapades were intriguing. The Orchid orientation video didn't explain too much, but I'm sure there's more than meets the eye. Locke becoming the leader of the "Others" is so Locke-like, too..

The disappearing island nonsense is so silly but so fitting for the lol-wtf-atmosphere. Also pertaining to this atmosphere are the whispers Michael heard in the C4 room. Creepy. (Oh yeah and I love the new Sun. She's already one of my favourites, and this new hardcore, crafty demeanor just reeks of awesome!)

So yeah, wildly entertaining, and it leaves many windows open for the next series. I'm satisfied, but would have liked a bit more.

davez0r Jun 7, 2008 02:02 PM

Echoing most, I think last year's finale was much better.

Spoiler:

I originally thought the coffin was going to be empty until we actually saw Jack and Ben looking down at it before they panned back to reveal Locke.

I think Jin is alive and will be rescued by Farraday in the raft.

killerpineapple Jun 10, 2008 03:24 PM

Season 3's finale was so amazing, it would be very difficult to top. Season 4 as a whole was very very strong in my opinion. They basically had to abandon A LOT of what made Lost so great and take the show in a totally new direction. I'm amazed that it worked so well.

Spoiler:
I'm both disappointed and glad that the show didn't end with an edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger/question. What did Sawyer whisper? (I'm purposefully avoiding your links. Sorry :p) Did Jin survive? Why is Sun evil? What made Locke leave the island and how did he die? These aren't as momentous or intriguing as previous cliffhangers. But it makes waiting for 2009 a little easier.

Other stuff: When do we get to see The Temple? Does Ben kill Penny? Will Walt play a major role in season 5? Will Daniel start time traveling and need to find Desmond? Smoke monster smoke monster smoke monster!?

If season 5 is about what happens on the island after the move and how Jack and friends get back, what the heck is season 6 and 7 going to be about?

And my friend's theory about the final FINAL episode...Jack time travels (not sure if it's Desmond style or Ben style) to the moment when the plane first crashes (notice that he was in the jungle and everyone else was in the water or on the beach) and instead of helping people get rescued he convinces them to stay on the island willingly. He completely changes his "work together or die alone" speech to get people to stay. Hmm...not sure if I agree with him on this one, but it's interesting.

OMG please no!!

Spoiler:
I think with Ben's help, they WILL go back to the island. Then again, how should they know how to find it, it's been moved!

No it will not. Season 6 will be.

I think the phone message sounds more like Sawyer.

Season 4 was about how they got off the island, S5 is supposed to be about how they get BACK there, and S6 is supposed to be about what happens when they do get back.

Season 7 is supposed to be the Zombie Season. [Which was simply a joke made by Darlton. S6 is the final season.]
