Never really mattered all that much anyway...

And answering Ultima's question up the page, Yes, voices make a big impact on games. If games plan to add voices, they better be pretty damn good or the gamer might not play the rest of the game since they technically wanna shove shit down your throat.

In fact, it's such a minute part of the game I can't believe anyone is upset over this in the first place. In an effort to make a very complete product, Nintendo did their best to localize each version of the game. But oh no, someone's gotta bitch about something. I, for one, will be playing the game and enjoying it rather than whining about why the characters don't sound like they're from an anime.

Who the hell said we were whining about it? :eye:

Chaotic Mar 2, 2008 10:44 PM

We're all entitled to our opinions, and a good majority of us were upset with some of them. It's not whining. :|

In many games that's true. In super smash brothers the voicing doesn't go much further than a "hwyaah!" here or there. Apparently you get significantly more engrossed in the role-playing aspect of super smash brothers than I if that is a critical game element.

Audio is %50 of the experience. I for one hate having yoshi anywhere in a melee match because of that goddamn moaning noise he makes everytime he jumps. Not liking the P. Trainer's voice now is bad because you're probably going to hear him yelling every 20 seconds or so when he switches pokemon.
I dont know if its just me but Brawl seems to have a lot more sound effects than melee. Maybe its just the audio quality in the youtube videos, but every attack, whether hit or miss, has a really noticeable sound to it. Like all of Snake's kicks and punches sound really bassy. And there's that weird swooosh noise when people are hit into the air.

NovaX Mar 3, 2008 01:25 AM

Audio is 50% of the experience? loooooooooool

Chaotic Mar 3, 2008 01:30 AM

In a technical way, it is.

The epic soundtrack and sound effects contribute to the game. Without any of these, the game would be boring as hell. No mood, no grunts, groans or yells. IT WOULD BE BORING WITH OUT IT.

immp Mar 3, 2008 01:52 AM

lol actually I have no idea, I was just quoting stephen spielberg.

Chaotic Mar 3, 2008 02:38 AM

Today's update: Stuff about continuing.

Intense gameplay is gonna have a hefty price to continue...

Lukage Mar 3, 2008 04:27 AM

The best part is that all of you bitching about these minor details are still going to buy the game and love it and jerk off to it. Stop pretending to be some jackass critic.

You're just a kid playing video games. Shut up and play.

The best part is no matter how many times you bitch-slap them with your fancy isults, they're not going to care what you say.

immp Mar 3, 2008 04:42 AM

Hell ya I'm going to milk myself to this game. I bought a 42" tv, new sound system and my Wii just for this one game. Just nitpicking to pass the time.

Buizel Mar 3, 2008 04:45 AM

Perhaps my previous post seems more of whining about the voices. As I said some are annoying and I had gotten used to the Japanese voice. I only want to replace them because I can do it and I like to have a choice like they did in Melee. I just don't get why Nintendo remove that option in Brawl where the game use a 7.4GB disc (whole data takes about 6GB) while in Melee the data fills up the entire GCN disc (1.3GB) and STILL have two languages option. */rant*

At least I'm not complaining about the English version of Mona Pizza, Mike's Song, and Ashely's Song. I like them as much as the Japanese version. They've done quite good job and I believe the reason for that is because those songs was done in a recording studio in Japan and they hire great singer for it.

Also I do agree that audio makes up 50% of the experience and Chaotic had pointed them out. This apply to every form of entertainment; not just games.

Now joking aside, why do they decided to "dub" Ike and not Marth? Now both of them can't "talk" to each other!
Ike: I only fight for my friends.
Marth: Nani?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 3, 2008 06:36 AM

I swear, have we degraded into shit again already? The next questionable post I see results in this thread getting locked until Sunday.

Chaotic Mar 3, 2008 10:09 AM

Totally not sure if this one has been posted yet.

YouTube Video

Suddenly Wolf has developed a Western accent? Not really a complaint, but they've been running with his cockier sounding voice for a while, wonder why they suddenly changed it.

Oh CN, as far as thinking why they dubbed Ike and not Marth... Marth has established himself in Japanese already. No point changing what everyone suddenly got used to from the last game. I never played any of the games that Ike was in, but if he was voiced, then putting him in English would've been the logical solution since people have already heard his voice in English anyway.

Metal Sphere Mar 3, 2008 12:28 PM

Lucario's voice is deep as hell, seemingly deeper than the japanese one. Not to mention he sounds like a damn Protoss.

FOR AIUR! *SMASH*

Chaotic Mar 3, 2008 12:41 PM

Almost evil at a point. I know that he's supposed to sound like a dog, but I think they overdo it... At least he has a voice... Unlike Mewtwo. <.<

Anyone else notice that Wolf hesitates in one of his lines?

"I will be the one to- take you down!"

Yeah, I noticed that. Some folks have been poking fun at it so far. And while we're on the subject of strange...

I knew they were going to get the Popotan treatment, but so soon?

It wasn't the issue that he was dubbed (at least my issue wasn't), but that it sounds drastically different than in the game he was in (Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for GCN). It doesn't bother me, but I still have to wonder why.

Chaotic Mar 3, 2008 01:18 PM

They seemed to have changed a lot of people's voices. All we can do is wonder why. o_o

Maybe he decided to save us from the ridiculous alternative "send you to another dimension". :p That's not the same voice actor from Star Fox Assault.

And that video was....complete and utter wtf. :erm:

SparkElectro Mar 3, 2008 01:36 PM

Anyone else notice how they've yet to stick with a consistent voice for the Star Fox characters? Every damn game they have a new voice. Can we stay consistent for once here?

immp Mar 3, 2008 01:50 PM

Probably issues with hiring the same VA, not liking the final results or maybe just different directors, hiring staff. Who knows. Snake sounds like a manly badass as usual and I'm glad Lucario is enough like Mewtwo to not be repeating his name all the time. Luca lu lu Lucario Luca lucario Luuuu!!

Josiah Mar 3, 2008 01:53 PM

By the way, on the note of why you can't change to Japanese voicing/text, I do have one theory: maybe they didn't implement it simply because it would've taken more time to do and likely result in yet another delay. Just a guess, but that wouldn't surprise me.
