Yeah I had no problems with not having achievements in ps3 games but once they announced the trophy's I was pretty damn interested but sony promises and doesn't deliver. Well it is up to the developers I guess but still sony screwed up big with firmware 2.41
Only game that I know that supports trophies is Stardust, I would have thought that newer games would have implemented it by now but it's pretty much a failure so far, as well as the in game XMB. Still I'll be getting soul calibur for ps3 tomorrow so if anyone is interested in online play then up for a few quick matches. |

Achievements are just another bullshit concept introduced to the industry that serves no purpose beyond artificially inflating game play so that designers don't have to sink as much effort into adding actual substance to the games they make. Sony should never have even wasted their time. |
I like in-game achievements. In-game goals that holds rewards, I understand, but system based achievements adds as much replay value as playing the entire game looking through a mirror.
The other upcoming waste of time is the PSN Home. If people want a Second Life duplicate, they'd go play Second Life. Sony should work on something meaningful, like say, God of War 3, or at the least fine-tune their current system instead of all this nonsense. |
Your skill as a whore is determined solely by your gamerscore, obviously.
The achievements in Soul Cailbur IV are just the Honors themselves, so it doesn't even give you anything to do, since you get 2/3s of them anyway just so you can have all the CaS stuff without tormenting yourself with ToLS. |
I don't really mind the achievement system at all, because it gives you something to work toward while you're playing the actual game. There are some retarded mindless grinding achievements (Blue Dragon Level 99 rank shit) but for the most part the achievements in this game in particular are built to be opened over time. A lot of the additional challenge that comes from it is opening them up as fast as you can and figuring out ways to do it. Scarlet posted the 12000g in 13 seconds bug whereas I had been slowly doing it a ridiculous way.
Star Ocean 3 was the very first culprit to do this, and even then I got all 300/300 Battle Trophies on that as well. I'm not looking forward to Star Ocean 4's BTs though... |
Personally, I think achievements are okay, but my huge problem with it is when people try to be all high and mighty saying "look at me and what I can do" to make themselves look all big and bad.
|
When was the last time you saw anyone do that?
Seriously. I've never met anyone who bragged that they had a high gamerscore, or that they had any specific achievement. And I've encountered some pretty big shitheads on Live. |
Maybe on GameFAQs they would do that kind of crap, but who pays any real mind to that place?
I wouldn't see any real reason to mention you got "x" achievement unless it was vague in how to obtain it and you wanted to tell others how to do the same. Treasure Trove from Lost Odyssey can burn in hell. |
lols Made a thread -- My Achievements. Let me show you them.
|
My friend let me borrow the 360 version of the game. If anyone wants to go a few matches, hit me up at Manello Biggz.
|
Back on this game though, there's pretty much nothing to do after all honors. Now I'm just wasting hell of a time creating cameo characters and such. This as much a dress up game as it is a fighting game.
|
Hmmm... Finally starting indulging in this game and got to the 11F in the Tower.
So how in the world did you people kill everyone on that floor with a Critical Finish? |
Yun Seong's -->BB
Throw in a Soul Gauge Damage skill for faster results. I farmed my 100 CF honor on floor 11. |

I spammed his back A and back B attacks alot to get them flashing. |
I know this is a dumb question adn all, But actually how do you get Honor ?
|
Honors are the achievements in the 360 version, and are standalone Honors in the PS3 version. It's the things like 100 Critical Finishers, beating Story on Hard, collecting all the equipment, things like that.
Go to Museum --> Battle Records and you'll see what they are. |
You get honors by not sucking at the game---dead serious. Half of them should come naturally.
On another note, I'll have to admit that Towers mode is stupid as hell. I've only bothered to play 11 stages, but what is the point of all this wannabe-RPG shit. What happened to challenges that consisted of clever and skilled AI. Now, you put on some gold underwear and an afro so you can hit 5 times as hard. Oh aight. Can I get Edgemaster Mode from Soul Edge. The 360 version instantly red rings because the music would be too much. |
So I got my ps3 version of the game and I have to say that i have totally gone nerd on the force attacks from darth vader and I don't even like star wars.
And megalith, I thought you were just being critical about some of the characters but when I actually saw the "Anime" characters, I knew what you were talking about ~_~ I also decided not to install right away just to see the difference (well more like I didn't have 1gb of free space on my ps3, so much for 80gb) way I saw the loading times in story mode Without the install, Vs 1 = 5 seconds vs 2 = 10 sec vs 3 or 4 = 25-30 sec With the install Vs 1 = Immidiate (sometimes 2 sec) Vs 2 = 3 sec vs 3 or 4 = 7 to 10 sec Rough estimate but yeah a slight difference to get your game on. Haven't tried out create a character yet since I sorta missed the middle Icon but the few ps3 users here who want to play online hit me up. PSN AniZeke |
i just got the ps3 version today and I forgot that you could install it, so when I started story mode against 3 characters, I had to wait a really long time. Installing cuts down the load time significantly.
I thought the story mode was super short, I wished it was longer and had a few more cutscenes. Vader's A+G throw is cheap ass, just go to the edge and use it on the opponent and you get an easy ring out. I had to use that method against the apprentice on arcade mode since I could barely get a hit on him. |
Vader's fisherman's throw certainly is hilarious to see, albeit a bit lame to use against someone with Nullify Ring Out A to deprive you of the fun.
What exactly are Seung Mina's quickest options? I'm adamantly using her online, only to have lots of trouble when pressured up close, only to have 2K or 6K and maybe a high smack with the bottom end of the staff, as the only quick pokes available, since it doesn't seem like Mina's A attacks are fast at all. Obviously she's meant to stay at mid/long range, but of course although optimal, that won't always be the case. |
Wow. Infinite Ivy Combo found. You cannot regain control in the air when chained. Supposedly the "cannot regain air control" part has been confirmed by multiple SC pros.
Note: Apparently, the youtube tag doesn't work with a link from uk.youtube. Click here for vid. |
EDIT: After too much testing and probably destroying whatever new-controller-feel my control had, it is definitely an infinite you cannot escape from. I retract my statement before about it being otherwise.
The attack itself inflicts a special juggle that exists in SCIV (I never touched III but maybe it is in there too) that, when hit in the air again, will keep putting you in this same juggle over and over again. This particular spinning launch juggle will not allow you to maintain air superiority. Basically you can mash the stick / d-pad all you want but your polygons aren't going anywhere. The only way your opponent will be able to get out of it is if you hit at the wrong distance or angle. It is also somehow possible for them to escape in the last stretch of the infinite, when they are going really high, due to the attack sometimes hitting them and causing a juggle at a weird angle due to height. The first two followups are also the hardest ones to do after the launch. Get the hang of those and you are pretty much set... |
Off the top of my head, Seung Mina has 6A, K and 3K, K. I only trained once with her, and I remember her having a large handful of considerably effective low strikes.
|
I'm enjoying the hell out of Lizardman in this game. His crawling stance got upgraded with some amazing goodies and his NCc 66B+K, A, B is too manly for words. Anyone with the 360 version want to set up a room for 4 one of these days?
|
Lizardman is the only character I cannot consistently beat thanks to all the upgrades he got since the last game. A friend of mine always chooses him, and chose him again in this game to play against me, and he ended up getting the better of me in the end 3 games to 1. All his moves are crazy confusion now, tons of methods to feint and strike. I've never been good dealing with a primarily low strike game, and that's most of what Lizardman is now.
Might actually have to put in more practice to beat him. |
