*sigh* it ended already? :o

Does anyone have the chapters from 105 to 108?

Arkhangelsk May 11, 2006 11:43 AM

I was satisfied with the ending. It was rather pathetic and sad (in a way...I mean,
Spoiler:
Light totally deserved it, but it was so sad to see him completely crazed at the end. And creepy Ryuk! When I go back and re-read the series from the beginning (with the US release books), I don't know how I'm going to handle 'cute, idealistic' Light.

Is 108 the last chapter? Because there's quite a few loose ends to tie up. Also, I really would have liked Ohba to at least reference the reactions of Light's sister and mother throughout part of this whole mess. I mean, their father/husband died, and it was just kind of glossed over.

SJ has, for once, not pushed a series beyond it's natural ending (like they do with soooo many of their manga) -- although if Ohba was tiring of it, maybe SJ kind of put pressure to extend it a little, hence the rather slow middle section of the series. But overall I really think it's the best thing to come out from SJ, bar none, in both the art and writing departments.

chato May 11, 2006 04:01 PM

I actually think she got tired of it after Souchiro's death. People think she got sloppy. I doubt that.

Overall. the story was amazing. Ohba will return with another new creation from her crazed mind. I wonder who the artist will be . Obata will do fine but I want someone else to work on it.

Cirno May 11, 2006 08:21 PM

Souchirou dies? You sons of bitches!

Spoiler:
YOU BASTARDS!

That'd be funny if Ryuuzaki L wasn't L at all.

Ignorant Yagami Fanboys are spreading rumors about

Dont read unless you're Finished with the Manga

Spoiler:
Yagami beating Near in the 2nd arc and that it will be shown in the third movie or something.

Precisely... WROOOONG!

I dont think Ohba would let that kind of shit happen. But i did hear that Tatsuya Fujiwara is planning to be more dramatic and will change a few things with Yagami's personality. That being - heavy whining and crying lol

As expected from the actor that DID whine in ALL of his movies,tv shows.

Make Yagami a whiny character? What, why? Part of his coolness is the fact that he's a heartless bastard under the delusion that he's assisting humanity. I don't want to sympathize with him, I want to hate him.

Misa better strip if that's the case.

chato May 19, 2006 10:39 PM

hehe. Oh btw , everyone. The exciting news is that Kenji Kawai will be responsible for the score of the DN Movie.

Kenji Kawai is well known for his best works in the GitS Movies as well as his recent work in Fate/Stay Night and The Moment the Cicadas Cry.

Let us rejoice and say that this should be very interesting.. He needs to have the taste of the GitS mood . Its not like the other two recent animes suck- I like them alot but its just i want it that way. It would only work ^^;..

Note : This was announced the 14th of April 2006....lol

chato May 25, 2006 05:17 PM

There some news regarding the DN movies from townL.

It seems that both movies will be Yagami vs L. Which means they have excluded the Yotsuba arc and will not show Mello and Near in any of them. Another thing i heard is that L will not die in either of the two.

Director Shunsuke says that "Its better to make something different from the original in order to respect it."

Well..its alright I guess. Now i can say that Kenji Kawai will definately save this movie since its different.

The main Death Note theme is by Shikao Suga Manatsu no Yoru no Yume.

I just started reading this series (Up to Chapter 31-32) and I love it. Its quite different and seems to break the mold of how Manga situations go, and I just can't get enough... The DN movies... will they be in english at some point, or will I have to steal/import the sub version off the interbutt?

One thing: Is L's name ("L") ever revealed to have meaning, or was it just chosen at random or something?

chato May 25, 2006 05:36 PM

L was just an alias name for him to make sure that he doesn't get caught by Kira. He also used the names Watari and Eraldo Coil.

According to a few in depth readers, they found a few names that would start with L. They think its Luke, Lazarus, Lucas, Leon..etc. Who knows really.

As for the sub, Im sure A-One or any subbing group (definately Shinsen Subs for their great quality). will be subbing it ASAP.

Yay for Suga Shikao! I always thought that Dani California, while a great song, seemed slightly out-of-place for DN.

Luckee Cookie May 25, 2006 10:55 PM

thank goodness it's not Dani California - like it was definately too mellow to theme up something about >__> killing other with death book yeah?

Arkhangelsk May 26, 2006 12:46 AM

It doesn't bother me too much about them changing the story that much (I mean, they can still end the movies with
Spoiler:
L in place of Mello in the end shots, with the same results. The only difference will be that L will not be trying to revenge for anything, but instead just making sure 'Justice will prevail ;)'

Plus, this will make all the L fangirls happy (like me!).

And are you quite sure that Dani California will not be the OP theme? Because it's pretty official, considering it's listed under the "Music" part of the DN official site and referred to in the official trailer. The Shikao Suga song most likely is the ED theme, or something to that effect. And on the subject, the official site is really spiffy! I hadn't poked around it in quite a while.

Anyways, I can't wait for June to come...

Right... it would make more sense for a top level investigator like L to just pick a random name with no meaning, as it cannot be used against him or something.

Cool. I'm sure that A subbing group will attach itself at some point, but you never know for sure (Paraoind I guess I was).
Now I'll just have to see if they make an english adaption after the two movies come out.

And sctually if they do the movise right, someone can sit down and watch it with no prior experience of reading the manga. Meaning they could release the movies here in the US, as something like Death Note: Beginning and Death Note: Conclusion or whatever. Sort of like how they did for Kill Bill (Part 1, Part 2).

They could even bill it as a "Detective Horror Movie" :D

Arkhangelsk May 26, 2006 03:43 AM

I think it would be awesome if they actually had a theatrical release in the US, but somehow I doubt it. There's always a slight chance, if FUNimation acquires the rights to DN (which is very likely, since they own the licenses to other US Shounen Jump releases), that they might put it out in their "Funimation Films" series -- even if the distribution is terribly limited. I don't know how well that little project of theirs is going.

There's no doubt that they'll at least give it a US DVD release, though. I think it has real potential over here in the States, to audiences beyond that of anime/manga fans.

Yeah, but dont expect a good quality version yet. As much as we'll get a shitload of DN cam'd versions at torrent sites..some may be shitty quality or average . An english adaption might work. The past few years..There's been japanese to english movies coming out. Soon we'll probably get a Zatochi american film.

It'd be awesome if they dub the movie as well XD. I'd rather have Funimation dub the anime only because they are also working on Speed Grapher and there isn't much comedy but tons of serious-freakish-crazy characters in there. So they might have a chance with it if they gain rights to DN. If not funi then Viz.

Spoiler:

beyond, huh? are you reffering to the kind of audiences that read/watch certain steven king novels/movies? ^^;. Not really an all away fan but he's one of those authors who can actually make some kind of movie that's like DN or make an American version.

The term associated with Dani California is 主題歌 (shudaika, theme song) and the term associated with Manatsu no Yoru no Yume is 挿入歌 (sounyuu uta, insert song). I've seen theme songs (such as FFXII's Kiss Me Good-Bye) labeled as "insert songs," but when you have one of each, I believe that the shudaika song is the OP and the other is the ED.

I'm not entirely sure, though.

Luckee Cookie May 26, 2006 01:02 PM

so you mean Dani California is still going to be in there some way or another o_O!? eep :S

Yes, it is. It's just not going to be *the* song, I guess you could say.

Arkhangelsk May 26, 2006 04:34 PM

I like RHCP okay, but I'm not too hot on Dani California. And I still don't see how it fits in with DN o___O. Perhaps it's just a product placement by Warner Bros inc., since they're the band's record label and the movie's distributor?? I mean, the lyrics are almost entirely references to US stuff, like the state names and such. They're certainly promoting the RHCP song more than the other.

But since there's a connection with US music, it's even more likely that the movie will get a Stateside release. At the moment it's looking at theatrical releases in Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, The Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, and apparently some European countries and American companies have shown interest in it as well...

Suga Shikao always wears sunglasses. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him without sunglasses.

Oh really? ^^; . I never seen or heard of him before so...

Also..I dont know what will become of Ryuku's shape and form but if its only a shadow..that'll be...pathetic. I'll still enjoy the movie though.

Suga Shikao's done songs for Honey and Clover, xxxHOLiC: Manatsu no Yo no Yume, xxxHOLiC, Boogiepop Phantom, and Honogurai Mizu no Soko Kara.

I think that promotional still is just to get us anxious for Ryuk. I have no doubt that Ryuk's going to get some good screen time in the movie, as evidenced by the Manatsu no Yoru no Yume PV.
