Just to clarify what you mean by "it".

Eg...FMV of the opening sequence or in-game playthrough...?

Um.

The torrent's for the actual JP game.

I'm burning a copy I downloaded right about now, I'll have to get back to you guys about the game.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 02:44 PM

Oh I see. Well too bad my PS2 is still a "virgin", so yeah, I'll guess I have to wait till whenever, come August...October...December..."Never"ber...

Soldier Mar 14, 2006 03:04 PM

I'll let you decide whether we need a seperate spoiler thread or not. If not, I hope everyone takes great care not to give anything away. Like I said before, I know absolutely very little of the actual plot, and I'd like it to stay that way.

Simo, is that pic in your avatar official? Looks like Balthier is one of the "ladies man" type of characters (Edgar, Zidane, Irvine).

Yep it's official. It's one of 2 posters for the game with the one in my avatar showing how much of a pimp Balflear is as he's got a nice hold of Ashe while Fran is piloting the vehicle in front. :D

As for spoilers, I don't mind impressions on the gameplay and such but any plot talk and story spoilers should remain strictly to using the spoiler code thanks.

I do have 2 minor requests though from those who import it or whatever. Can we get a good high quality rip of the rolling demo and opening movie? We've seen most of the footage in the various trailers anyways so it'd be nice to see them in their full glory.

Zip Mar 14, 2006 03:54 PM

im sorry this game isnt fun. Me and my friend have played it for a good solid 10 hours now it just isnt cool. The battle system is just annoying (not that big of a change when you break it down). And before you complain to me that the story this and story that, both of us know japanese so it's all good.
I really whished that this would be the next ff9 but nope :(.

Amazingly, she doesn't seem to mind. :/

On that note, I feel it's worth mentioning that according to FFVII Ultimania Omega, Vincent was originally going to be one of these "pimp" characters. It was said that as soon as he emerges from his coffin, he immediately hits on Tifa and Aerith. As hard as that would be to imagine, I have noticed that FFVII lacks the pervert type character that's practically a regular in most FF games.

Actually, people need to be careful with gameplay info as well. I don't want the names of any unknown areas, and I especially don't want to read any boss names.

"Sup I'm stuck on Vaan's zombie brother any gameplay tips?"

One question I do have regarding the story is the romance subplot. I remember reading how Vaan and Ashe's relationship wouldn't be a typical love story, but instead an "other kind of love". And I do like the concept of Vaan and Penelo having a relationship before the game starts (an idea that hasn't been done since Cecil and Rosa in FFIV). They do look cute together, too. So does Matsuno make good on this promise, or does it become the typical love triangle concept that's starting to get old?

This isn't GameFaqs though so any such questions should be posted over there rather than here. When I mentioned talk of the gameplay I was more or less referencing to member's impressions of the battle system, just how expansive the world map looks and feels and such. I don't need specifics on locations not already known or boss titles.

Matsuno also said that while the Vaan and Ashe would be involved in a relationship it may not be with each other. Since Vaan is already with Penelo, my own theory or assumption would be that Ashe might end up falling for Basch but we'll see. :)

Soldier Mar 14, 2006 04:41 PM

Ashe with Basch is just all kinds of weird, and disturbing.

I like it. :)

Zip Mar 14, 2006 04:41 PM

Spoiler:
uh does this work? All i will say is that it goes back and forth and we get a bit of triangle drama. I havent beaten the game (doubt i will anytime soon) but it's standard ff love stuff.

why do you find it annoying ? :kitsune:

B4-Hunter Mar 14, 2006 05:30 PM

Well is it hard to move in options of JAP version? Have anyone found some translation notes for menus or inventory? I'm thinking about downloading it...

It's nothing major. He just comments about a love triangle with no characters mentioned and standard FF love stuff.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 06:13 PM

So Zip, how's the battle sequence? Does the music change? What do Vaan and the others do once they finish their attack? Does it look like they just stand there?

From what I know Vaan and Penelo are definitely couple, but Matsuno stated that Ashe may have unrequited feelings for Vaan, like the whole Cecil/Rosa/Kain triangle back in FFIV. So it probably doesn't go anywhere with Ashe. Matsuno also stated that Nobuo's "Kiss Me Good-bye" was what made him make the small change.

I can answer this for you, there isn't any normal battle music since the battlefield is mix with dungeon and exploration field, basically it's like Vagrant Story or, a MMMORPG so battles don't really end. They don't do any victory poses unless it's after beating a Boss which is also when the Fanfare plays.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 07:04 PM

Sadly, I have Vagrant Story but haven't gotten around playing it yet. Still so many PS1 games to get through. The PS3 can wait, for all I care. Not FFXII though.

Anyone notice...

That this picture uses the same font and is position as Vagrant Story?

These two images imply that the story also seems to follow the same formula of FFT, and VS by being a story from the past, told in present, by what may be a member of the Durai Family, or, Alazham J. Durai himself.

The Durai person I'm talking about is in the 3rd screen of these images, surround with books:

According with the guy that is currently playing the game and will review it:

(Google chat)
Doug: I see
1:53 PM So...what do you think of FFXII getting a perfect score in Famitsu?
It's really no surprise
1:54 PM is it close to being worthy of a perfect score?
1:55 PM me: well
the first ten hours or so have been . . .
1:56 PM i guess, so far it's the best game square has ever made
to a point where it's almost GOD damned embarrassing
they should be ASHAMED of everything else theyve ever made
after putting this game out
Doug: wow
me: it could BURY them
it's just . . . on such a level
Doug: I didn't want to get my hopes up
though wow
me: where it makes other games look sick and retarded
1:57 PM like, the story, i mean
if you thought VI had a good story
this is ******* literature
to put it lightly
Doug: I was expecting such
I told Julie a year ago that Final Fantasy XII is going to be my favorite game ever
1:58 PM I've just always kind of...known
me: the demo is kind of a joke
the actual game is quite great
and it's HARD!!!!
ive died like FORTY TIMES!!
Doug: yes!
that's what I want to hear!
me: the enemies just kind of beat the **** out of you
it's kind of scary
1:59 PM one of the famitsu reviewers said -- about the story
that the voice-actors "dont even sound like videogame or anime voice-actors! they sound like real actors!"
this is because they have MATERIAL!!
it's amazing, on a level
it's definitely as competently put together -- less plot-wise, more editing-wise
as a metal gear solid game
2:00 PM well, a little more
it has so much VISION
it has BALLS
and it's a RISK for square because people dont WANT balls
they want DRECK
it's what they expect
Doug: its depressingly true
2:01 PM me: well, i hope this changes something
squeenix wants to sell 3 million in a month
Doug: I'm expecting the game to get the worst reception of any ff ever when it hits the US
me: if they dont do that, then it doesnt beat FFX
and it proves to them that "people like FFX more"
2:02 PM which is AMAZING!
because it's not about how much the game SELLS right away
it's about how good the game actually IS . . . right?
well, not to them
Doug: not to a company
me: most of the people who buy it will not beat it in a MONTH, much less the day they buy it
yeah
2:03 PM Doug: It's a shame about Matsuno, too. I wonder if he's done with videogames for good?
2:04 PM That would make this his opus, then?
me: i dont know!
nobody knows
well, it all depends on how it . . . pans out
god i HATE the way the hero looks though
he looks DUMB AS HELL

i absolutely will review this game because the first ten hours have been so perfect that if it takes a nosedive, that nosedive must be reported.

Herm? I'd like an elaboration, seeing that this "Doug" is conducting the interview.

Is there any way to rip the audio from the ISO floating around?

This game is too much, it's a masterpiece so far. It has managed to bring back the feeling of adventure that's been missing for far too long in RPG's. There is almost nothing to complain about this game, and the new battle system is such a pleasant change for the better. I love this game so much already.

hint: Remember to turn on vibration since the game doesn't have it on by default.

Heh, I remember going through FFX for about half way with no vibration. Not that the game required much to experience it, save for summoning the aeons.

MrSatan Mar 14, 2006 10:13 PM

gius i have a soundtrack question.
the soundtrack is not made by nobuo uematsu, how is the music? does it sounds right? im a uematsu fan, and a final fantasy game without him its hard to swallow, any comments on the music?

Craze Mar 14, 2006 10:34 PM

Whoa, awesomeness! Those in China said they bought it for about 300RMB, so it's much cheaper than Japan. I'm going over to my friend's place to see if he got hold of it and probably stay there for a few hours to watch him play.

Is the soundtrack even out? I thought the official release date is 19/4/2006?

Yeah it's not out yet. I gather MrSatan's question was directed toward Zip who is playing the game now and is about 10 hours in.

Nobuo Uematsu does have some involvement in the soundtrack-he composted the theme track "Kiss Me Good-Bye" performed by Angela Aki.
