Third pic looks worse, but regardless, this is the prettiest Wii game by a substantial amount.

Has Petey Pirranha evolved from plant to plantasaurus? :p

Lukage Mar 8, 2007 10:10 PM

I'd have to say Sonic takes the lead for now, Metroid if an unreleased game counts.

PS3, I mean, Spiderman 3 coming to the Wii.....

What's with the Playstation crap all over it, and by all over it I mean in two places - but really, what's up with that?

Elixir Mar 10, 2007 02:15 AM

The Wii's going through some sort of drought right now.

FatsDomino Mar 10, 2007 02:19 AM

Not as bad as the cube's but there is one. Super Paper Mario will be welcomed.

Infernal Monkey Mar 10, 2007 02:22 AM

It needs to drink plenty of fluid then (hahehohahaheho). Also PlayStation 3 for Wii is actually the PlayStation 2 version with new controls. False advertising, I will sue what's left of Sega for every penny they have.

All eight of them.

No unified Wii friends list

Those of you hoping that Nintendo would implement a unified friends list for Wii online titles might want to suck on your cheeks for a bit: Wii friends lists will need to be set up for every game you play.

That's according to a GameSpy representative responding to questions about the online matchmaking technology they will be supplying for Nintendo. "The Wii friend lists are game-specific," the spokesperson told a Nintendo Wii blogger who also works as games editor for a German television station.

Disappointment is likely to be amplified, too, by the PR's revelation that "GameSpy's technology does allow for features that could span multiple games". It's just that Nintendo Wii won't be using them that way.

We asked Nintendo UK whether we were missing something; whether there was some obvious reason for going down this route rather than adopting the unified approach that has become a console gaming standard, but were simply told, "Nintendo has taken this step as we believe it's the right thing to do."

Source

Meh. Nintendo's online service with all the numbers and whatnot couldn't be more useless to me. Or so I thought. Why must they continue to hassle people who wants to play online Nintendo games? I have around 17 Wii codes from people who wants to be on my list, and I just couldn't be assed to input these ridiculous codes.

And now you're telling me I have to bother with more of them? In the name of Finagle....
Nintendo, this isn't 'Protection of kiddies', this is downright harrasment...

Thoughts, people?

Malmer Mar 16, 2007 08:42 AM

As long as there's play with random people I don't care much, but yeah, the whole DS friend code thing pretty much kept me from ever playing anything with anyone I know, ever.
I see now that I won't be playing the Wii with anyone I know either.

Infernal Monkey Mar 16, 2007 08:53 AM

I'd be annoyed by this news if there were even any decent online games coming to Wii anytime soon. There's what, Pokemon Turn Based Boredom Battle Revolution, Fist of the North Star Pachinko Collection (hahaha) and MySims announced so far. I think.

OH SHIT wait there's Battalion Wars 2 and Mario Strikers (the original was an underrated gem for multiplayer, just like Sega Soccer Slam). Stuff Friend Codes. :(

FatsDomino Mar 16, 2007 02:52 PM

I don't think that GameSpy rep answered every question and ultimately it's Nintendo who does what they want with their services. The big thing that points Wii games towards and away from having individual Friend Codes is Pokemon Battle Revolution. PBR uses Friends Codes because it primarily uses the DS and it's DS Pokemon games as data. The DS games are what causes the Friend Codes in this case.

So perhaps you only need the System Code for games that don't use DS game link up to the Wii. That would be most of them.

I see no reason for Nintendo to use their nice interface and create a Friends Channel where you can add, edit, and manage your friends. There should be an easy way to pull up a player list in every online game you play, Press B on their name and get a drop down option that asks if you want to add them to your Friends Channel. After doing a confirmation with them they will then be added. Nintendo makes you read EULAs to protect them and you from crazy people online and what not anyway so you should have to jump through a thousand fucking hoops to have a good online interface. Nintendo needs to get with the program.

StarmanDX Mar 19, 2007 01:30 PM

Considering Elebits already doesn't work this way, this seems odd. At any rate, the article doesn't say anything about codes, just lists. Perhaps once someone is already on your Wii Friend List, you simply need to select them in-game to add them.

Final version of the browser just came out. Nothing was really *fixed* that should have been.

Slash Apr 11, 2007 09:56 PM

Yeah but on VC theres Star Fox 64! Finally!

But I want my firefox browser on Wii! none of this..640x480 resolution screen crap!

Lukage Apr 11, 2007 10:23 PM

So apparently using that update on the news page for the browser just updates the firmware and doesn't do the browser update at all. Oh, did I mention it also takes up almost 75 blocks? :\

FatsDomino Apr 11, 2007 10:24 PM

Posting this from my new Wii browser. In options you can make it wider. It's perfect. They fixed most of the problems. All they need now is to support bluetooth keyboards.

garthvadr3 Apr 11, 2007 10:31 PM

I like the new browser a lot too.

I like how you can now zoom out if an image is too big for SDTV resolution.

FatsDomino Apr 11, 2007 11:39 PM

They need to work on how it handles cache. Like there shouldn't be any because basically a couple flash files in and the memory gets full. That or they need to offer an external harddrive to handle memory issues.

They also need to put the latest version of flash in it because it doesn't display some text. Here's a good example of one where it doesn't do that: http://www.acerbandit.net/flash/ahtm6.swf

Now, if someone could do a test for me please. Try loading the following flash using the Wii browser and run it.

http://www.acerbandit.net/flash/stfu-slim.swf

I get as far as the kid spray painting the wall and the cop shadow behind him and then it runs out of memory. That's without loading any other flash videos as well. Tell me how far you get or rather if you further.

If they'd just fix the memory issues this would make the Wii browser perfect.

Additional Spam:
I've been doing some testing. It seems that flv's which youtube, google video, and most streaming flash video uses doesn't use a lot of memory. It must be some sort of small cache stream. Anyhow I used AMV Hell 3 which is almost an hour as a test on youtube and I can only get about 30 minutes in. This is sort of why I like google video because you can jump anywhere in the video instead of having to wait for the entire video to load.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aTgINExt2w

If you could. Tell me how much of it you were able to watch before it crapped out on you. I have a theory that after a certain time the Wii thinks it's not being used and goes into sleep mode where it loses connection. I might be wrong though.

Infernal Monkey Apr 12, 2007 02:16 AM

I downloaded it for the novelty of downloading it. I'll probably never use it, like that voting channel that I've never played. The system update still didn't fix my glitchy pointer. My Wii is still fucked after all these months with no hope of it being repaired. Awesome! =D

Edit-oooh yeah, Nintendo Europe's decided to publish Super Swing Golf, but under the Pangya name, with STYLE!

Oh god. Mario has gears on his wrists? I have to get this game now. It has gears in it.

Kilroy Apr 12, 2007 05:29 AM

Gears of Mario, am i rite guys?

It's pretty heavy metal, that cover...

On a lighter note, I got Kororinpa, which is the best Wii game I've played yet!:edgarrock:

garthvadr3 Apr 12, 2007 08:56 AM

Hey infernal, in what way is your Wii pointer glitchy? I have not had any problems except when I play Wii in the livingroom from more than 20 feet away on my roomates 60 some inch TV. The distance seems to cause jumpiness in the pointer but that can be remedied with a stroner IR source.

Infernal Monkey Apr 12, 2007 09:30 AM

It was fine when I first got it, but one of the launch firmware updates stuffed it. The pointer skips across the screen slowly, and when you tilt it even slightly, it'll randomly jump all over the place. I've tried everything possible, adjusting the sensitivity, using different controllers, moving it to a different room, used a different sensor bar, taken it to a friends place, it does the same thing. I've found a few others with the same problem in other forums, they were all able to get replacements from Nintendo America. No such luck from Nintendo Australia.

But it doesn't spaz out everywhere, just the main menu.. and every single channel. Games that use on-screen pointers so far have been fine (aside from Wii Play).

garthvadr3 Apr 12, 2007 05:44 PM

hmmm weird. I have not heard of that problem yet. Yea, my friend had to get his replaced after the first firmware upgrade and Nintendo of America was prompt about it, but again that is here and not where you are. Good luck with that, hopefully Nintendo of Australia will come through.
