That is all. ;)

Slayer X Oct 17, 2006 09:21 AM

Yup, not far now ^^

I think I'm going to start a thread soon for advice on camping for consoles. This is because my friends and I are going to be camping at a FutureShop on the thursday night before launch and this will be our first time, hence the request for advice. So for all of you who are planning on doing the same for either a Wii or a PS3, watch for the thread to go up soon.

More images incoming, this time they're from the PS3 catalog that was available at TGS.

Btw, for a few posts back, flOw is very much not like Electroplankton despite the look :) It's more like the microscopic-level game from Spore... or rather, it's the predicessor of it, since the same designer is working on that aspect of the game.

Checking out the new shots, thanks as usual Sphere~

No problem, these are actually coming from a guy called Elder who stumbled upon the press page at Sony's website, using his press pass and username. I'll link to the original post where he's got it all up if the images start coming down as a good number of them are imageshacked.

I'd love it if they made another Klonoa title, anyone have the sales figures for the 2nd title? BTW, there are more references to Namco games on those cars.

Examples: Mitsurugi, Kilik, Arkbird, Osea/Usea/Erusea, etc...

Edit: Holy Hell Hogs, check this info out:

...Owen Stampflee, Lead Software Engineer of Terra Soft Solutions expresses, "From the days of the Commodore 64 to modern overclocked and water cooled home computers, a battle has raged between dedicated game boxes and home computers for highest quality game play. PLAYSTATION 3 provides an industry first exceptional Linux OS experience ... and Terra Soft the first Linux OS. I am proud to have played a part in this development."

Under basic agreement with SCEI, Terra Soft was granted a unique opportunity to develop and bring to market a complete Linux OS for the Sony PLAYSTATION 3. In development of Yellow Dog Linux v5.0, Terra Soft integrated and enhanced code from Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Sony Group, and Fedora in order to offer the following:
- kernel 2.6.16
- gcc 3.4.4 and glibc 2.4
- Cell SDK 1.1
- OpenOffice.org 2.0.2
- FireFox 1.5.0 and Thunderbird 1.5.0
- Nautilus 2.1.4
... and a suite of Personal Accessories, Development Tools; Sound & Video, Internet, and Networking applications...
Definitely more than what I was expecting to be avaiable, especially with Firefox on there. I've got some of my pals telling me that Yellow Dog, or Linux at least has been compatible with SNES/NES emulators for a while. With BC and those emus, I could have quite a bit of gaming going on. Anyways, we'll just have to way and see how this all pans out.

Oh, sorry. :(

Firefox on PS3? GodDAMN.

Metal Sphere Oct 17, 2006 01:05 PM

Ok, I just found out what Nautilus is. Seems like a file management system, probably goes along with Yellow Dog Linux, I bet.

Looks like you get word processing, a well known browser, email capabiltiies and a file managment system that looks kind of like a Mac's. Tons of functionality, and 2 browsers too (the default PS3 OS's and Firefox).

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 17, 2006 06:13 PM

Ah, so flOw HAS changed a bit, albeit just graphically, and the background music is nicer. Good find, Slayer.

I am curious though if it's going to have a score, or end to it, or anything of that nature. I know that people like us are interested in it as an idea and everything, but the average joe schmoe might not get it if it has no definable goals.

Slayer X Oct 17, 2006 06:30 PM

I think you just have to build up your plankton type of thing up to it's final form which I believe (or at least in the flash version) is by consuming everything in all 16 levels... but I could be wrong.

Straight from the press release, the three newly-unveiled machines are:

Nice controller pictures, I can now see how the triggers would feel a bit uncomfortable.

Cobalt Katze Oct 17, 2006 08:55 PM

Sigma's looking sexy. I'm digging the focused motion blur on the sword in one shot, and the last shot's lighting is definately hot stuff.

I think we've sort of worn out the "nice PS3 photos" though... There isn't much more to show other than more angles, more backgrounds, and more fingerprints.

About the PS3 shots, you're right. It's getting to the point where I'm as familiar with what the console looks like as I am with my PS2. All we need now is photos of the console in action, with various PS1/2/3 games functioning on it, screens of the BC, etc...

The Ninja Gaiden pics just look like pumped up version of NG Black for the XB. But the game has only started development for the PS3 and isn't going to be released until around summer '07 I think I heard in a developer interview at GameTrailers. So there's lots of time to do more. It doesn't look bad, it just looks like a 360 game right now. (Ohhhhh... burn)(probably hear some ranting about that one, ah... it was worth it)

Metal Sphere Oct 17, 2006 10:07 PM

Maybe you should spoiler tag the insanely huge pics. Anyway, those are some stunning shots of Ryu, demons, guns, bikes, and boobs Racheal.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 17, 2006 10:32 PM

Spoiler tag doesn't keep the photos from loading, actually. It just doesn't display them. If you're that concerned, thumbnail 'em. I'd just leave them as is though.

Metal Sphere Oct 17, 2006 10:36 PM

Ok, now this is ridiculous. People are camping out just to play the kiosks/set ups that are already going up in Best Buys.

Quote:

After strolling into my Best Buy today i noticed a line and that could have only meant one thing. The PS3 kiosk was there? No, not till tommorow, but there was already a line forming outside the store to see the newly setup kiosk area. I have never seen this kind of reaction, not even for the 360.

This is where the kiosk will display. Sorry for the bad quality, i had to be quick with the camera phone.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...4/SSPX0178.jpg

This is the area where the games will be displayed. Notice the space to right, all the original shelving was taken down for the new display. You can see this display in the back right of the top picture.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...4/SSPX0174.jpg

The media manager at my Best Buy kept reasuring everyone that the PS3 WOULD BE PLAYABLE the next morning. I will be one of the 20 people already camping out right now. Im writing this on my laptop as I sit out here with the rest of the PS3 boys. Thank god for wireless. More to come soon!

Best Buy near me completely redid their video game section and I noticed a big empty spot not unlike where the standee in the pictures was positioned. But they didn't have anything up yet. They also moved the 360 away from the nice La-Z-Boys to the *back* of the game section (wow).

I stand corrected. Learn something new each day.

Camping out just for the demo kiosks, now that is just ridiculous. Regardless, I'll be sure to call my BB on Friday to see if they have theirs set up. Even if I don't get a chance to play it, it'll be a treat just to watch it in action (assuming the idiot taking the turn knows how to play, and usually that isn't the case).

Did you hear that they're going to leave the Wiimotes wireless? This is going to cause some big problems. Scratched DS screens is one thing, but losing the chance to play it at all because some douche ran off with the remote is even worse. :(

Metal Sphere Oct 17, 2006 11:00 PM

Yeah, i heard about the Wii situation. They'll find a way to keep them tethered to the display, though.

Anyway, here's 3 more screens of the XMB in action. This time it looks like it's ripping audio tracks from a CD.

Metal Sphere Oct 17, 2006 11:20 PM

Yeah, I just found out that the second batch of screens shows the PS3 ripping tracks from a CD onto the HDD. The second screen shows the bitrate to choose, though I don't know if this happens before or after the first screen.

Soldier Oct 17, 2006 11:31 PM

God, I hope that means you can customize the game soundtracks. I also hope this means you can customize the PS3 menu sounds. I'd love to be able to add as many menu themes as I want.

What the heck is going on in that movie player?
