Oh yes, a rotation system. Like we haven't been doing that without the option for years now with billions of other games.

As far as updates are going, I could care less if some of them were bad if at least ONE update was good in that week. I could deal with four bad ones and a one to break the internet with, but when you've been dragging it for about three weeks, then it starts getting ridiculous.

And don't you mean "a grain of salt"?

Identity Crisis Dec 11, 2007 02:53 AM

In all fairness, these updates weren't originally intended to last as long as they are right now what with the large delay and all.

FatsDomino Dec 11, 2007 03:21 AM

This is a nice update to show how meticulous Sakurai is. I can't wait to see all the crazy stats and shit he's jammed into this game.

You note how many people are playing, how many spectators there are, log them in with profile names, then set the rules for the rotation.

Nothing that common sense can't do. Four people, one person sits out, first one dead passes the controller.

Is it that big of a deal? He's not going to spoil everything about the game ahead of time, but it's nice to know they've put thought into utilizing features like this nonetheless. Yes, the website is marketing, but far be it a requirement for him to have to tell you everything in advance. Just stop reading the damn website and you won't be let down so much.

Concur with Acer, because this post shows an exploration of features, however trivial some may think it is! :)

Seriously, if you can't learn to get over that "oh the updates are horrible" hurdle. Then I don't see why you should bother getting Brawl at all. Because this may just be your attitude when getting the game.

Personally, I don't see what's wrong about these updates. It's just giving us something to look forward to. Besides, it's not like you guys can do a better job. So just relax and take these updates "with some water" and learn to enjoy these final updates leading up to it's February 10, 2008 release.

I want to say ":ZOMGNERDRAGE: LOLOL" but I think there is some truth to what you are saying. While on a long car ride, Skills and I got in a discussion about the 'ninten-drought' and the big N's propensity for delaying games over and over again. Fan anticipation builds and builds until they expect the game to end all games. They want it to answer the meaning of life, get them laid, make them a millionaire, and create some sort of lasting and life changing experience equal with a religious epiphany. When the game fails to deliver, they become surly, depressed, and downright melancholy, just like children on Christmas day.

The result is an above average and very good game that people are disappointed in. Rather than getting trapped in the cycle of expectation and disappointment, why not just forget about the game and find something to occupy your time until then. I dunno, start working out, playing music, do martial arts, cycling, or crochet. Something productive. Before you know it, February will be hear and you can approach a great piece of software with zero expectation and be wowed by the brilliance of it. Seems like a better option to me at least.

Nothing that common sense can't do. 8 people, 6 sit out, first one dead gets knocked out. Super Smash Bros. Melee is gonna suck, I'm tellin' ya."

Dark Nation Dec 11, 2007 11:17 AM

I don't mind this update, at least it takes some of the guess-work out of who plays next and all that. I wonder how this will be applied to big Tournaments with lots of other fighting games? (You know,
like EVO and the Tournaments they have in Japan n' shit?)

I know, all this bitching is just retarded. At least he's giving us updates, most devs don't give us shit, but here he is giving us daily updates since, what, August? And people are still bitching? Cry about it some more you candy-asses.

Sure I can:

Captain Falcon.
Ness.

I would have taken just one of those over last month in its entirety. Filler updates are fine until you remember that Captain Falcon hasn't been reconfirmed (we wouldn't even know if F-Zero had any representation at all if it weren't for Goroh) and people are still chomping at the bit hoping Ness will be in. There's also Snake and Zelda's final smashes.

Also mark your calendars December 17 for Megaman's 20th anniversary when he will be confirmed.

Chaotic Dec 12, 2007 12:42 AM

And the full confirmation of Shiek, Ganon, and Luigi. I'll take any of those also.

Can I offically say "What the hell" now?

An explanation of the Options menu.

:(

Deflicker Options... Rumble Options... Sound Options... Sound Test... SIGH.

I know you've heard enough of my bitching, but I don't think anyone could be happy about this update, even if you were sarcastic with it. :|

Well, a music update was also posted today, the music that plays on The Summit stage. Just like Sakurai said, it uses what little music is in Ice Climber to create the different atmospheres the stage goes through. (Note sure what's up with those voice-like sound effect at the beginning, but it's a pretty nice track nonetheless.)

Then the guy says:

Quote:

Unfortunately, however, the timing of the phrases shifts during Slow Brawls. Please forgive that.
Um, I think it would be more of a problem if it busted into the rock arrangement before the tip broke off and started sliding down the mountain than it would if the transitions are simply being delayed and the music repeats a little.

It will be much better with the music matching the atmosphere. Jeesh, what a guy.

Chaotic Dec 12, 2007 02:19 AM

Whoops, I missed the music update. :(

Pretty good stuff though... But I don't think anyone could be happy about the Options update...

Diversion Dec 12, 2007 02:22 AM

I dunno, I'm pretty stoked about the sound test.

Edit: I really like this update, because it's making me question some more things about the game. Vault Data, in particular. I know trophies and stickers are here, but maybe there could be more... screen shots? Videos? (Oh I can only hope!) At the least, the game's storing more data outside of records and game accomplishments. Also had a couple songs on the list we haven't seen yet :)

kuttlas Dec 12, 2007 02:43 AM

Well, sound test is a damn good thing, I'm sure that out of the hundreds of people who will be impatient enough to import it from Japan, one of them will rip the soundtrack before it comes over to the US.

That Ice Climbers arrangement is pretty good, I don't know if I like the surfer theme but it beats the hell out of the one from melee, for sure.

Conan-the-3rd Dec 12, 2007 03:19 AM

And the shitstorm of fanboy continues.

damnit guys, most games don't even divolve half this shit before zero hour.

trackjacket Dec 12, 2007 03:26 AM

This update rocks. Particularly, due to the Sound Test screen showing that the song "The Roost" from Animal Crossing: Wild World will be featured in the game, and that Kazumi Totaka served as the arrangement supervisor for it. I hope it's a remix, though, but I wouldn't mind a direct rip of the song from Wild World.

Buizel Dec 12, 2007 03:26 AM

Blah. There's no option to change "language". :( Not that I'm a "weeaboo" (I'm Asian, does that even make sense?! o.O) but I hate most of the "dubbed" Pokemon "cries"/voice. I also hate the chant/cheering from SSBM because it sounds dull/unenthusiastic and hope they will "fix" it.

Ice Climbers arrangement sound nice and agree it's better from melee.

Yes, but remember that some of the music tracks have to be unlocked. (Not saying somebody won't rip a partial soundtrack of what's available right off the bat though.)

Most likely, by the time the person unlocks every track in the Japanese version they imported, the game may already be on sale locally, so they basically jumped the gun because we all know that there will be some people who will play the English version non-stop until everything's unlocked. At least WAY more than the people who imported the Japanese version anyway.

Speaking of that, I was thinking about the people that import games to get them earlier. For Brawl, there's only about a 2.5 week gap between release dates, and assuming that they are able to find a Japanese seller that's not sold out and ships the game right away, it will still take about a week to get here. Not to mention that a modded Wii is needed, it will be more expensive, especially with shipping costs, and of course the game will be in Japanese, which only a small minority of Americans can read.

That's a hell of a lot of trouble just to get the game about 1.5 weeks earlier than everybody else.

I noticed that too. I always liked changing it to Japanese to practice my reading skills on the trophy descriptions, so hopefully the option to set it to Japanese will be there. (I'm currently taking Japanese in college. <_< )

Or they already have a Japanese Wii. XP

If someone modded their Wii they might as well download the ISO... >_>
Of course, I will buy the game when it release in North America to show support. XD;
