Yeah, the default batteries that came with the Wiimotes were different in some cases. I'm not sure if they're all different or if it was a matter of which shipment the Wii came from, but my batteries lasted twice as long as the ones my brother's wiimote came with. They were completely different brands.

Use only alkaline batteries. Do not use lithium ion, nickel cadmium (nicad), nickel metal hydride (nimh), carbon zinc or any other non-alkaline batteries.

Do not recharge the batteries.
I think that's the same warning they've been using since the original GameBoy, so don't worry about it.

I swear...Nintendo must have a deal with Duracell/Energizer/[Insert Battery Company Here]

I can't find the source on it, but they do have deals with battery manufacturer(s) to promote sales.

What a great system.

So, you're happy with your results with the Wii at 480p on HDTV?

DjMeas Jan 5, 2007 02:14 AM

Yea, i'm fine with it actually. It really doesn't bother me after seeing how it looked like on 480i ^_^''

C'mon, Me and 3 buddies playing Tennis laughing our butts off was fun on the tiny 15'' screen i was playing on...
On a 42'' HDTV... It's WAAAAAAAAAY BETTER ^_^

On another note, i just rented Elebits for the week. Didn't get to sink my teeth into it yet but i'm looking
forward to giving it a run through.

I wish Datel would hurry up with that Wii Freeloader.

I don't want to keep digging out my GC to play it's games on composite for an hour or so.

A question for people in Australia.

I want to purchase an American Wii as soon as I can get my hands on it, but I may be moving to Sydney for college. What do I need to do to be able to play it? Since in Aus, the electric watts are different from America, and there's the issue of all the TVs being PAL.

Anyone can help me?

Elixir Jan 5, 2007 06:03 PM

You're gonna need a stepdown transformer.

Kairi Li Jan 5, 2007 07:05 PM

What is that?

Something that's easily searchable. Basically, it makes your foreign electronic device work.

Kairi Li Jan 5, 2007 11:52 PM

Ah now I know what it is, just used to calling it in it's Hong Kong name and the english name sounded strange. Thanks for the link!

So I suppose the fact that TVs there are PAL won't affect the video whatsoever?

Prime Blue Jan 6, 2007 12:08 AM

Of course the output of your American Wii is NTSC. It could be that the TV you'll have in Australia (if you don't take your own with you) won't be able to output NTSC. Most of the newer ones do, though.

Just got my Wii component cables for a grand total of $15. Compared to the official ones this was a great deal. People tried to tell me they're different from the official ones but they're lying. Some asian guy in EB today was trying to convince me that the official ones were better. I told him they aren't and you're only paying for the name "Nintendo" written on it.

Oddly enough his fellow worker tried to convince him what I was trying too. "Oh, but component cables don't make much of a difference unless you have a HDTV right?" and people wonder why I dislike EB.

And speaking of EB, I picked up my PAL Twilight Princess for Gamecube today. I don't care for the Wii's controls, and since it's basically the same damn game as the Wii version (and plus the GC version is already rare for some reason) so I'll start playing that later today or tomorrow. Dunno. God Hand's so awesome I don't know when I'll be stopping for this.

Alright, this Wii shortage is very annoying. I've spent every day for the last two weeks calling two Circuit City's and four Gamestops, and they never have any in stock, nor do they have any idea when they'll receive any more.

Has there been any indication at all when Nintendo is going to step up the production? One Gamestop employee told me that he heard the possibility of Wiis becoming more available within the next two weeks, but that's been it.

Infernal Monkey Jan 6, 2007 10:36 PM

Pretty sure I read somewhere on the internet that they'd kicked production up a notch with their spice weasel, but who knows. It can't be that hard, they just have to melt down Atari 2600's and TV remotes. This is the first console since forever to get a proper 'simultaneous' worldwide launch though. Some stores here still haven't recieved anymore units since launch!

Soldier Jan 6, 2007 11:16 PM

I wonder if the production boost will be enough so that I wouldn't have to pester CC every day in the morning, and just casually walk in and grab a system. The situation with me is that I'm trying to make use of the "$40 off a $200 purchase" coupon before it ends (Jan 31). That's almost like getting Zelda for free.

You do know that most store employees have been instructed to lie about Wii availability over the phone, right? The only time you can be sure you're getting a straight answer will be if you're in the store, and they usually sell out within a few minutes. I've seen one EB with Wiis and that was the case.

K_ Takahashi Jan 7, 2007 01:08 AM

Saw a Wii in a walmart the other day.

Try those places (I know youre trying to get that deal and all but....)

Slash Jan 7, 2007 01:41 AM

Alot of times Best Buy gets them on sundays, they hand out coupons at like 9AM before the store opens...they usually average about 30 or so per store. When I got mine there were 51 delivered.

The other option is to make really good friends with the people at EB or Gamestop.

And you do know what a pain it would be to drive to those Gamestops every day to check if they actually have the system. I'm not dismissing the policy you mentioned, but a few times the employees over the phone have been pretty honest, saying things like "we got a few yesterday but they sold out in 30 minutes". I have a little more trust with the GS workers than the people in Circuit City (not once has someone from the game department picked up the phone; I've had to call other departments to check. Of course I just learned there's an Operater option, but I'm not sure their word is completely reliable either).

I have a $20 gift card from Best Buy as an xmas gift. I was saving it for Zelda, but I don't mind using it for a Wii either. I guess I can try calling them tommorow, but I'm not holding my breath.

The quality of the wiring and connectors actually makes a difference, you know. Cheap, shoddy wiring will make more brittle cables and have a signal degrade producing a slightly worse image.

That's a sort of videophile thing though and it's not a very big difference at all. Just sayin' it does exist though.

Then again, you're not using an HDTV so it won't matter, but the point still stands otherwise.

Well yeah, you wouldn't want to drive out each day either. I'm just saying don't depend on calling them. Even if they had any they'd likely not tell you since they would probably be sold out by the time you got there. You just have to rely on luck, as the chances of you getting an employee nice enough to tell you the truth and hide a Wii for you are about the same as walking into a store just in time for a shipment. I know a lot of people around here who are still frantically searching as well.

Infernal Monkey Jan 7, 2007 03:55 AM

Hey guys, just noticed this in the back of the Gottlieb Pinball Classics manual. Excuse all the dirt and shit that showed up while scanning. :]

I APPROVE of remade games with sort of updated graphics!

Amayirot Akago Jan 7, 2007 06:42 AM

Ah, finally some news! I'd noticed they were working on an IM remake on IGN, but so far they didn't have any news. Screenshots look decent enough, let's hope they don't botch up the game. The multiple playable characters doesn't seem too appealing after the bad things I've heard about IM2025.

Meanwhile tho, both my remotes have their batteries drained, and I don't have any replacements or money to get some. Sigh.

EDIT: Scratch that, my dad still had a whole bunch lying around :) Though it's just a question of how long these are gonna last...

EDIT2: Finally played some more Zelda TP tonight. This game's fucking HUGE. Everytime I think I'm finally nearing the end I get sent on another quest.
Spoiler:
Also, the Ganondorf cutscene was BAD ASS.

cubed Jan 8, 2007 06:20 PM

There are still people making lines from early in the morning to get a Wii. And I don't want to do that. So I have to wait the wii to be commonly available.

Buizel Jan 9, 2007 01:56 PM

Small line but yes there is. Most store around here says that either people wait in line or "drop by" but either way it's sold out in 5-10 minutes. @_@
