That's just an example. I'm pretty sure that there may be less than that. Because with any fighting game -- I'm sure that you will start out as many as 3-4 default characters.

Slash Dec 7, 2007 02:57 AM

That looks like the same start screen they have from the "demos" at E4All

Zeta26 Dec 7, 2007 03:01 AM

Yeah, well as said. That's only an example. No doubt that roster will expand when it comes close to the game being released.

Slash Dec 7, 2007 03:16 AM

LoL Should have been like "Wheres my Jiggly? and not the pokemon" ~laughs~

Zeta26 Dec 7, 2007 03:23 AM

lol I suppose so. Or like those comedians would put it. "Where my Jiggly at foo?" lmao :D

Correct, it's the same character select screen from the E for All demo:

I'm shocked at you all, I'm surprised you guys haven't read the last part of the post which I think is the most important.

When you have a battle mode that runs online like Basic Brawl, the problem of what to do with hidden characters arises. If one of your opponents chooses a character you haven’t unlocked yet, it will be spoiled for you immediately.

But even without this mode, given the proliferation of the Internet these days, the existence of hidden characters is going to get exposed anyway.

So, this time I’m moving in the direction of not being too hung up on hidden characters.

You can earn most characters by playing through Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. For those of you who look forward to those encounters, I recommend you clear this mode before playing Basic Brawl.

And as the case has always been, I’ve made it so you can play the characters you unlock in battles.

Makes me think that he's not gonna reveal everyone but it seems that all the important ones (New characters) Are revealed pretty much.

You could be right. Though I'd like to point out that the roster as displayed doesn't have the same characters-from-like-franchises-put-together feel to it.

And that a lot of characters are missing from that screen. So, I think we can safely surmise that nothing's resolved on the starter/unlockable character front yet.

OR, if that is what the starting roster is going to look like, that's pretty unfortunate. NO KIRBY? <(;_;<)

To me, his absence is the most unfortunate, assuming he will be absent.

That's who I play with primarily until I start unlocking people!

FatsDomino Dec 7, 2007 09:28 AM

Dope, it's just a demo/example roster. Also, there are good reasons why certain characters were not on the example roster. Being an example roster for demonstration purposes it will definitely change and not all characters on there will be starter characters. Out of the newcomers shown there definitely will be some that are not starting characters.

Sin Ansem Dec 7, 2007 09:51 AM

I find the SSE news nice. That means I can enjoy SSE and unlock the majority in one fell swoop without having to waste time fighting random crap. I HATED having to unlock that one stage in 15 minute melee.

Zeta26 Dec 7, 2007 11:52 AM

Dope, as said. That is only an example roster list. Heck most of those characters may not even be available from the get go (when you buy the game).

Edit
Got another update for you guys. This now comes from Wii QJ, take a look.

The roster for the highly anticipated rumble, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, has seen a lot of new entries (and a few exits as well). So has Nintendo finally settled on the final list? Hopefully we'll find out soon: CoroCoro Comic has announced that they'll be revealing the roster in an upcoming issue.

It's not sure yet whether or not they'll be revealing the secret characters list as well or will just be revealing the starting roster, but it's going to be interesting either way as we'll be able to know which characters are in and which have been given the boot.

CoroCoro Comic says that they will be revealing the list this December 15 in a separate booklet that will come with the CoroCoro Comic magazine.

Dopefish Dec 7, 2007 06:55 PM

Why is it always obscure mags breaking the big news?

"Hey, Game Informer just announced that Diablo III will be exclusive for the PS3!"

Kimchi Dec 7, 2007 06:59 PM

The characters announced are the final set? I know this is very slim...are we getting more?

Dopefish Dec 7, 2007 07:06 PM

I believe we'll see many more characters than what has been announced already. Assuming it takes about a week after the game goes gold to be in stores and the game (should be) released in Japan on 24 January 2008, we probably have another 30 updates before that time comes. And it's not like they have to stop making entries once the game is out (though I don't see the point, obviously).

Kimchi Dec 7, 2007 07:09 PM

=) So there is still hope for Rock.

And for extra characters... I honestly can't see anymore oter than the ones posted. Unless they are adding extras from SSBM.

Krelian Dec 7, 2007 07:20 PM

I'm not sure whether that means they're revealing the full roster or just the starting characters.

Either way, QJ is stupid and dubious as fuck, so I don't believe that quote for one second.

Zeta26 Dec 7, 2007 07:34 PM

Oh? What if you're wrong. And that by next week (12-15) that we may see a glimpse of what the roster will look like. In otherwords; "Uso ja nai (I"m not lying). Look dude, it's not just Wii QJ, it also hit 1Up as well.

trackjacket Dec 7, 2007 07:40 PM

While, yes, it's true that CoroCoro Magazine will be releasing their strategy guide with their January issue on Dec. 15th, it's not known what the contents will be within it. Meaning that, it could be how to unlock all of the hidden characters, or it could just be general information regarding Subspace Emissary and the like. We won't know until next week.

Also, I'm pretty sure QJ isn't the original source for that information (I can't recall what was, actually, but it popped up about a month ago). But, from what I do remember, there was absolutely no mention regarding a "full roster reveal," as it's simply just a strategy guide.

Joe Wiewel Dec 7, 2007 09:34 PM

I call total bullshit on that. Must be a mistranslation of the date and/or the contents.

I can't see Sakurai letting something like this slide, since he's been so secretive with the game so far.

Now if it was January 15th, I might believe it.

Zeta26 Dec 8, 2007 02:25 AM

K, let's see if the article is fake from now until December 15. And see if you guys're truly right. Meaning that there will be a follow up article to this one saying stuff like > "And you thought that this was real". Or some other joke (or what have them).

But, in all honesty. It spread like wildfire, which it even hit Wikipedia as well. And I don't think that these news people were joking. If they were, they would've included something to make it a joke news article. And April Fools is far past.

Slash Dec 8, 2007 02:44 AM

I'll believe the final roster on the 15th the day I see it.

I really don't see Smash Bros Brawl to have LESS characters than Melee, especially because people obviously want MORE characters.

Zeta26 Dec 8, 2007 03:29 AM

Indeed. And besides, I doubt that people would want to use the same character over and over.

And whether you guys want to believe this confirmation is up to you. Personally, I think you guys are jumping the gun too early. Need to see if the article that the game news sites ran today is truly fake. And not immediately assume yourselves if it is or not.

Sin Ansem Dec 8, 2007 02:00 PM

^Smashboards has had this from a leaflet from Corocoro magazine for about a week now. Other sites just now picking on it, especially if it says it's coming on a separate booklet, makes it more likely that we'll get more than just the starting roster, even if it's just a little bit...

Kimchi Dec 8, 2007 07:53 PM

Uh, watch SSBB pushed back once we are near the release date.
