Actually, I ended up reverting to my previous 1.4 setup. Even though everything technically worked perfectly, the server was beset by mysterious and unbearable lag, and apparently I am not the only one, as there are threads all over the Minecraft forums and Bukkit forums about it. Yay Notch!

Good news, we finally found a stable 1.5 setup, and have managed to use the Nethrar plugin to enable nether for our server. We also upgraded our CPU to a Core i7-990x 6-core. Performance is better than ever and the fun continues to increase!

Do your nether gates actually work like single player nether gates or does any nether gate lead to the same nether spawn like most basic nether support offers? I've avoided nether due to this problem.

I wonder how notch's SMP nether stuff will be. Probably will cause like 20 more bugs.

It works exactly like single player nether, only without the loading time. Each gate has its own sister gate in the nether and the distance compression applies as well.

This project started as a simple compass with a rules board, but over time I kept adding more and more to it until it grew into what we see here today. A beautiful and shining example of an epic spawn area.

Well Piccolo's Project Genesis map is restarting on the 20th, so he gave people the option to hax blocks to finish projects. I decided to make a large underground base dubbed the "Haxhole" deep under my town of shops (Shop Town)

It is protected by a large diamond door using the elevator mod. People who have not become promoted to a trusted builder cannot break lapis or diamond so its totally protected from noobs.

Been a while. Well turns out we may be getting 1.7 sooner than expected. Pistons and bug fixes. Yup. Adventure Mode or whatever it is will be in 1.8 instead cuz you know vacations and supposed fleshing out and stuff. Whatevs here have this silly video.

Project Genesis is still going strong. We have an awesome new map with huge, deep oceans, beautiful, expansive continents, with several cities and many large-scale projects already in development. Here are some screenshots of what's going on right now:

Adding onto Piccolo's post, Project Genesis is still running on 1.6.6. You will need to downgrade to log in until all the plug-ins update. I think we are waiting on just one more plug-in. Anyways, more screenshots:

I may come visit you guys once you upgrade to 1.7.2. I only really explore but I do admire the work people do. =)

My server is much simpler and is running 1.7.2 just fine. The upgrade was much less painful this time around than with 1.6.

i recently swished up my crummy little server's dynmap with a nicer palette, proper lighting and the nether, it's wicked fancy. about time they added coloured wool support too.

Also pistons are pretty much the greatest thing ever. Here's a stupid but hilarious chomping head thing I made. the obsidian and iron structure on the left is a safe; I'm in the middle of rigging up a piston-based combination lock for it.

If I may ask, how did you get the shadows working? I am positive I have my settings correct, but it just isn't happening.

dynmap can be weird sometimes, but yeah for the past couple versions they've had wool color and they also fixed the cardinal direction when switching from flat to the uh 3d diagonal map

oh they also fixed it from crashing your client when doing a fullrender recently too

i never did get around to fooling with the palette and shading though - i'd love to know more as well

i think shadowstrength is commented out in the default config; just delete the # at the beginning of the line and you should be good to go. also the default value (1.0) looks pretty weird/horrible so i recommend going with 0.5, your mileage may vary though.

also golly gee piccolo your spawn area is something else. wish my server was active enough to warrant something of that scale, bleh

They've been livestreaming via a cellphone at the Mojang booth at PAX off and on.

There's a 50 minute recording of it available that shows off most of the new features: dashing, new lighting, new combat, pulling on bow strings, enderman, rivers, oceans, better biomes in general, generated npc villages (actual npcs yet to come), and other fun stuff like the booth itself and the people there.

Thread has been quiet for a good while.

So the "release version" is out, and it's already got 1.1 update. New features and fixes are still coming which is nice.

I'm still playing with Scotty on Lunar's survival server, altho the latter has been taking time off of it.
