One thing that me and a buddy have noticed while playing/farming New Haven for chests is that there seems to be another 'level' of sorts to weapons other than what is listed. He opened a chest in New Haven and two sniper rifles popped out, one that was clearly orange, the rarest of rare, and yet the other rifle had a yellow text to it, much akin to that BLR Bad Firehawk in the post above.
I'm not too entirely sure what it means or why they don't mention it in game, but if anyone knows what the difference is, or if yellow is just a step between purple and orange do let me know. |
There are two different levels of orange, light and dark orange, and one above that level altogether, called pearlescent, that's even less common.

Continuing on the font size issue that Taco's been posting about; it seems there is a hard-coded limit on the number of effect lines displayed for items, and that number is 5. Even when running debug mode, only 5 effects appear for the equipped weapon.
So, while you can set the text very tiny, there seems to be no real point until this next hurdle is overcome. For the moment I would recommend a font size of 14. It displays 5 lines of text perfectly, and isn't so small you have to squint every time you're equipping a weapon. |
The 5 lines on Class Mods for console is annoying, but also explains how my sweetass Class Mod started giving me regen ammo for no particular reason.
Also I thought it'd already been posted as it's days old now, but pure "white"/pearlescent drops have been a confirmed glitch by Gearbox. I forget the exact explanation, but it's when some combination of things on the weapon cause the rarity scale to implode and fail. This is why all of the Pearlescent drops people were finding (including myself) were all total shit weapons. Dark Orange is as high as it goes, which sucks :( |

You consider Ammo Regen, Zoom rate and Crit Damage % useless? o_O

Doesn't seem exactly useless. Not really, like...the greatest shit I've ever seen but y'know. |
I dunno about them, but Zoom Rate and Crit Damage % are crucial to know for me... Ammo Regen... While it's nice, I hardly ever notice it.. Then again, the only gun I have that eats ammo ( That I use regularly of course ) is my x3 explosive SMG, and I only use that from time to time, so usually I'm only down about 400 ammo and just restock each time I get to a new munitions vendor.

Zoom I'm kind of indifferent about since 180% Bullet Velocity on Lilith means I'm almost never going to have any delay between firing the shot and hitting the target. I'll give you Crit Damage %. |

Holy crap, going through Old Haven now and the game suddenly got a million times better. Loot's way nicer and enemies are actually putting up a fight.
|
Game actually seems to be easier on my second time through. Almost finishing my second playthrough with my soldier and hit level 50 around Old Haven.
Also a little disappointed how infrequently I find new weapons which replace what I'm using. For the entire second playthrough I've relied upon an assault rifle with +2 to fire, ~93 accuracy, a decent sized clip, scope, and bursts of 5 shots. It does a lot less raw damage than many other guns I've found, but its accuracy and rate of fire has made it untouchable by anything else this whole game. With around level 35 assault rifle and level 4 of the assault skill I don't even use my sniper rifle anymore. :( |
From 29 to about 42 I had a rocket launcher I couldn't find an improvement on, and for 32 to 45 the deal was the same for a sniper.
When you start getting red text stuff, that usually outdoes the increase in raw damage you'll get from higher level stuff. |
With the latest PC patch that hit, for those who edited the .ini files to force the font smaller to see more lines, to enable vsync, AA and the FOV settings, will I have to retweak it now?
|
Got this game from a friend the other day, pretty awesome so far... I have a level 16 Soldier, but I'm struggling to find some decent weapons... Or at least finding a decent shotgun...
|
16? If you've not found Sledge yet you must be close, and with any luck his shotty will carry you for a good long while.
(hint: Sledge doesn't know how to open doors) Quote:

When was this? my ini files have not been altered recently.
Do you mean when daylight savings hit? That wasn't a PC patch. |
You know, I started the game thinking that I'd play the soldier as a support class, but I've really fallen in love with the Siren playstyle and drawing aggro away from other members.
I just don't understand why they made one of the Soldier's class weapons a shotgun. It seems like he's not really a "get up in your face" kinda guy like the berserker. |

PC OFFICIAL UPDATE 11/16 - update notes and links! - Gearbox Software Community |
Well, fuck me sideways, I must have missed that post.
Shows how much attention I was paying. :( |

Also, how long is the first playthrough anyway? |
Got about 30 hours or so out of Playthrough 1 myself, though I'm the kind of spaz that absolutely has to do every single sidequest.
|
I noticed that my mouse sensitivity and screen brightness settings were reverted to normal. A quick look at the .ini shows that mouse smoothing is still off, so I'm not sure what all tweaks will have to be re-applied.

I never really found shotguns all that useful, I have to say. Generally they'll either have really high damage but horrid accuracy and shot speed, or be pretty accurate and have a decent rate of fire, but not put out enough damage. I mean, sure the shotguns I find do something like 150x7 damage, but they only fire one round a second with ~60 accuracy, but I can also find automatic rifles with 200+ damage, 10+ rounds a second, and accuracy over 88. That means I can use it for both intermediate range as well as close range.
Debating now if I want to give the siren or brick a shot. I figure my play style will probably be similar enough with both of them as with the hunter and soldier, so I don't know if it'll be worth doing since I'm probably going to wind up playing the whole thing solo anyway. =\ I did have a four player game the other day with some buddies from Left 4 Dead and have to say it was really rad. The increased difficulty and extra tactics you get from having to deal with weak points on enemies and whatnot really makes it more interesting. Wish more of you guys played in the early AM hours. |
