The Star Wars MMO is a lot more interesting to me then 14, I mean XI-2. To try and answer your question, I think some do live for a really long time; but likely most of them get killed long before they would die of old age, by a lightsaber or blaster or pissing off a wookie and so forth.

UltimaIchijouji Jun 3, 2009 12:57 AM

The more I think about it, the more I'm warming up to FFXIV being an MMO. I enjoyed FFXI for a while. Was it flawed? Absolutely. But it was a fun game. I had a lot more fun with it than I did with WoW.

So long as they make some innovations and actually fix the mistakes they made with FFXI, this second coming of the Square MMO could be the one that is successful, for them and for the players.

Animechanic Jun 3, 2009 01:39 AM

Has it been confirmed to be an MMO or is the keyword "online" all we know for sure? Online multiplayer co-op action/RPG seem to be popping up a lot lately, so maybe Square Enix is jumping on that bandwagon.

Final Fantasy XI logo as the same online key word:

and to more precise: FINAL FANTASY XIV

Under information the game genre is: massively multiplayer online role-playing game

oh and btw I just notice Nobuo Uematsu is doing the soundtrack!

Well, I mean, if "Revan never returned from unknown space," I'd say that kinda wraps it up.

I think they have more to tell in the Revan plotline, so I don't think they'd give away the ending, in a sense, by having him as such an influential dark side character.

@BZ: theoretically, yes, dark side characters can use techniques to extend their life, but 300 years would seem to be stretching it. From an in-universe viewpoint, it would allow the Siths to effectively win the war, because they could simply wait until the light side masters died off or became too decrepit to defend themselves.

Yoda's race just happened to be one that lives ~1000 years.

I really tried to like FFXI, and the thing that appealed to me the most in watching a couple of my friends play was that it necessitated team play, and moreover, each class was distinct, and brought something to the table that no other class really could. I couldn't play it because of the slow speed and donkey shit interface, though. I wasn't about to spend my trial month just trying to figure out how to get from the vendor and back to the field.

If they can clean it up significantly, and make it more appealing to new players, I'll certainly check it out.

Although chucking Revan back into the new Old Republic game would certainly be good for the hype machine, he'd only be there as an npc since it's an MMO isn't it? I mean, everyone can't all play as Revan right so you'll be some random Jedi and I'm willing to bet it's a random Sith pretending to be Revan, saving the real Revan for a KOTOR 3, featuring the Exile as well. It'd certainly make more sense to me to have a KOTOR 3 where you're travelling the outer reaches looking for Revan and the Exile, rather than have either of them as antagonists in a game set 300 years later.

In terms of Sith surviving that long though, I'm pretty sure all the Sith in KOTOR 2 were supposedly hundreds of years old, Darth Treya having trained the other two, who both have powers of unkillability in one form or another.

So far, I'm excited for FFXIII, hoping it will be fun at least, but not excited for it's shoddy voice acting. I read somewhere "the voice acting is shaping up pretty good." No it's not, it sounds like another mouth abortion like FFX did. The Last Guardian trailer stirred up a pretty fierce desire to see more. And since I'm not an MMO person the FFXIV and Star Wars MMO stuff has just been pretty over my head.

So far nothing too shocking, though PS3's new motion controller has me a bit confused but whatever works for you Sony, whatever works.

Holy shit best news of E3 by far. Soundtrack purchase, here I come! :3:

Hamauzu's work on FFXIII sounds pretty good too from the trailer, but it's really not been the same since they ousted Uematsu. Oh wait the best song in that trailer was written by Uematsu too. :D

Also how did nobody talk about the epicly awesome updated trailer for TricTHE LAST GUARDIAN

I thought due to the time lapse in news it would get cancelled but Alan Wake looks incredible.

It's kitty weighing time.

King Conan is an NPC in Age of Conan, so when it comes to MMOs anything is fair game.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jun 3, 2009 11:21 AM

Um, I can already accurately weigh my cat using weighing scales, why do I need a Wii fit board to do it?

Weigh yourself, then pick up the cat and weigh yourself again, the cat's weight is the difference, which I imagine is exactly how it'll work in Wii Fit 2. Hardly a feature that's going to change the world, unless people don't own bathroom scales I guess.

nuttyturnip Jun 3, 2009 11:26 AM

I was mostly being sarcastic. Still, between Personal Trainer: Walking and Wii Fit Plus, Nintendo is really cornering the market on pet fitness.

Worm Jun 3, 2009 11:54 AM

They're cornering the demographic that believes what they see on fitness infomercials; that's for sure.

Timberwolf8889 Jun 3, 2009 01:10 PM

Now Nintendo just needs a wireless ab-jiggling attachment and they'll own the TV-fitness market.

Sousuke Jun 3, 2009 04:04 PM

When they played the teaser for Metroid: Other M, I was floored. I mean, Team Ninja doing Metroid? Awesome. Can't wait to see how that pans out.

And the whole "Any objections, lady?" was great. Throwback to Fusion!

And Golden Sun DS? FUCK YES.

While this does seem kind of cool you have to remember that Fusion is more or less regarded as one of the worst entries in the series.

SuperSonic Jun 3, 2009 05:49 PM

Kojima has announced his four projects: Metal Gear Arcade, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid Rising, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (the mask rumor). Peace Walker and Castlevania will be out by 2010. There's no release date for Rising or Arcade, however Arcade will hit arcades in Japan first followed by a worldwide release.

Zefier Jun 3, 2009 06:06 PM

...well, I think I just ended up missing all of E3. From what I can get, Microsoft released an Eyetoy+ that won't be developed for, Nintendo churned out more shit from their franchises, and Sony let Square Enix loose with their shittastic 3D models.

God. Damn. It.

(At least there's Modern Warfare 2.)

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 3, 2009 06:13 PM

Moving on to games that they're showing off this year, I found some things on Nintendo's E3 website. After a brief reprieve with Disaster: Day of Crisis, Nintendo has Monolith Soft working on a new RPG-- that being Monado: Beginning of the World for the Wii.

YouTube Video

Also of note is Nintendo's quiet announcement that The Glory of Heracles is making its way over. That was the most recent entry into the series in Japan, and a first for North America. It was a pretty darn good RPG released for the DS in... early 2008? I don't think it was 2007.

Heracles came out in Mid-2008, I think it was mid-July?

In any case, it's still an awesome game. One of the best looking DS titles, for sure.

Most developers only wish they had game series where the worst game is still a solid 9/10. Metroid Prime 2 is far worse, don't lie

wvlfpvp Jun 4, 2009 12:42 AM

(don't forget, you're talking to the ONLY PERSON EVER who didn't have a problem with that retarded speed ball boss. You know the one. The one that made it impossible for regular people to win the game.

dagget Jun 4, 2009 07:16 AM

AMG! Castlevania: Lords of Shadow looks really really good. I think I'm anticipating that as much as God of War 3. I am preased!
