One way I've taken advantage of that is placing the cherry bomb right in front of me for certain enemies, or in between me and the enemy. This works pretty well for foes that like to charge straight at me, like (spoilers for the Gale Shrine quest)
Spoiler:
The Canine Warriors, when they use their non-invincible jumps
With a little luck, they throw themselves right into the area of effect of the cherry bomb!

Spoiler:
That tactic works great when you face Orochi after you destroy the shrine on it's back--when they're charging at you head-on.

SouthJag Sep 25, 2006 07:07 PM

Spoiler:
I tried that with one of the Canine Warriors, but the fucker had a three-hit combo and even with the Cherry Bomb between us, he just recognized it as a block and continued the assault. I got hit because I couldn't see him after the explosion. :/ I stuck with the old jump/fleetfoot technique.

Did the same with Orochi. I used a Cherry Bomb on him (post-shrine destruction) after he was drunk and just kept the onslaught going with the Life Beads, Cherry Bombs, and Power Slashes.

Man, all this talk is making it really hard to not go back and play again tonight. :/

Spoiler:
Just wait till you get shrunken to Issun's size to clear the mist from Sei-an City. You get to see what he actually looks like. He's pretty badass with Denokomaru

Secret Squirrel Sep 25, 2006 07:55 PM

Wow, you guys are all so far. I'm 9 hours in, and I'm still in Shinsho Field, though I've just about cleaned everything up - I think i have a couple of walls to Cherry Bomb, and then I'm heading back to make the village bloom and to see if anything changed in Sakuya's shrine.

I should get an hour (or maybe 2) of playing in tonight.

SS - Check Kushi's house...I think you'll find a couple of Sakes in there.

My copy arrived earlier. I'm loving this.

My only complaint is that you can't fix the camera angle, which is annoying because it's too low.

BIGWORM Sep 25, 2006 09:58 PM

press L1.

I don't know of a single game that lets you do this, actually. But as said, L1 lets you choose between two different angles and right analog stick moves the camera around.

The game itself is just wonderful; I have only played about two hours, but the setting and gameplay is so unique you just have to love it.

Thanks B4-Hunter!! Well regardless of file size I just hope it'll d/l without any probs. Thank you so much!

Been 17 hours into the game. Still loving it lol.

Thanks, I had considered using Cherry Bomb in her house, but thought against it. Maybe I'll go back and do one more thorough exploration of the village and Shinsho before I head to Agata forest.

I wonder how far out in the water I can go before I hit a barrier....

BIGWORM Sep 26, 2006 10:29 PM

You won't last long if you're actually in the water, but with a Lily brush, I suppose pretty far.

Secret Squirrel Sep 27, 2006 07:17 AM

Okay, finally (at about 11h 25min elapsed) had my first Boss battle. Man, it was tough. Waka obliterated me the first time, even with the one-life from the Astral Pouch, and 5 or 6 Holy Bone S's. So yeah, I actually hit the "game over" point and had to reload.

I beat him on the second try though, without digging into the Astral Pouch, and using a few less bones than before. I guess it's all about timing, and learning how to use the beads and mirror properly...

I know there's games which allow you to do this but I can't think of any at the moment. There's no middle camera angle, it's just third person or really far away.

BIGWORM Sep 27, 2006 02:26 PM

Wow. Dragon Palace's music is some of the most soothing music I've heard in some time. It rivals Klonoa's OST in terms of calmness.

MGS3:SUB gave us up to 3 views. MGS type, FPP and 3rd person. But in Okami it's like in some driving game.

An (easier) way to beat Waka :-
Spoiler:
It makes it much easier if you power slash his throwing blades back at him. It'll stun him for a second, allowing you to power slash him or blow him up.

BIGWORM Sep 27, 2006 06:25 PM

The Jade Glaive (at my point) is the most powerful weapon in the game. It fully charges in literally a fraction of a second. You can take out black imps with 2 strokes.

Spoiler:
I just defeated Ninetails, btw

Nissay Sep 28, 2006 10:37 AM

Kyuubi is so badass ^^, almost at the end

Did you ever brush long enough to where Kyuubi's brush appeared on your canvas? I saw that brush and I stopped hella quick. lol
