I'm kind of worried most about Marth's voice. If they bothered to change Ike's then he's probably been changed too. What I really want to know is if we have the option to use Japanese voices and put our names in katakana/hiragana like in Melee. Brawl has crazy amounts of options but I'm going to really miss the language and audio options the most if they've been nixed.

Chaotic Mar 1, 2008 12:04 AM

I hope they're not nixed. Changing the language was a fun thing to do in game. :(

And just for lulz, even though it's my character: YouTube - Smash Bros Brawl - Wolf vs Fox

I have composed a list of around 25 quotes I wanted to use for text taunts...I never came up with anything that brilliant. Hats off to you sir.

The guy who posted the VA vids on youtube also posted some info about the US release options on the brawl central forums. He said no japanese language options and no japanese text options. =(

You're too slow 0:55

I must be the only person who likes Sonic's "You're too slow" as is

I mean, it's perfect for mindgames and just driving your foe batty.

Metal Sphere Mar 1, 2008 01:15 PM

Here's Pokemon Trainer and Sonic (amongst others) in the sound test.

P.Trainer's a smoker...Snake's a bad influence!

Lizardcommando Mar 1, 2008 04:12 PM

I was hoping Falco would sound really cocky, like how he was in Star Fox 64. ...Or is that the same voice actor, except not as cocky sounding?

Haha. When Ike said "Prepare yourself", he sounds kinda like a really bored version of Tengu Man.

Some of the english voices in Brawl. Pit and Ike are especially disappointing for me.

Also some taunting.

OH GAWD my ear are bleeding! I'm going to replace all the English voice (except Snake) data with the Japanese voice data when I get my hands on the US version. This is worth wasting another DL disc. @_@

If that works...good god I'll do it too.

How do you go about doing that?

Using Trucha Signer (might need to sign up to read article).

...and actually, I might have to replace ALL the voices since that plus the sfx are packed into one big .brsar file. I just hope the pointer aren't different or else it won't work.

Chaotic Mar 2, 2008 02:06 AM

Would you need a modded Wii or a Freeloader for this thing to work? I take it you would have to since you're modding the ISO.

Cheezeman3000 Mar 2, 2008 03:47 AM

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth... :eye: Might as well import a copy.

Lukage Mar 2, 2008 04:52 AM

Oh Jesus fuck people, its like you're watching some dubbed shit on Cartoon Network then find out that the original Japanese voices sound more normal. I hope you all get your Japanese copies of the game in outrage then realize you've wasted a ton of money to take away your multiplayer capabilities.

UltimaIchijouji Mar 2, 2008 12:48 PM

Its a game. Do the voices actually matter?
Some people are ridiculous.

Josiah Mar 2, 2008 01:20 PM

Really, I don't think it's THAT bad. Yeah, some people might sound a little silly, but I thought Fox and Falco had decent actors in Star Fox Assault and it sounds like they got the same people for Brawl. And yeah, I'd like it if Ganondorf had more than grunts and growls (or a laugh) for his voicing, but even so, he's still really bada** as is.

...But yeah, this is seriously reminding me of anime elitist fanboys (or girls) that never have anything good to say about English dubbing, EVEN when it's good.

Krelian Mar 2, 2008 01:39 PM

I only care about voice acting in games where it's used extensively and articulately. Tiny snippets of dialogue and HOO HA BAH AUUUUGH noises can't piss me off in Smash no matter how shitty they are.

You need to have a modded Wii. Freeloader won't boot up backups; only pressed imported disc.

...and I already have the Japanese version. I just gotten use to the voice. Don't take the wrong idea I do like other dub voice too.

That's awesome, unlike that Pokemon trainer voice sample video.

Play VF5 with the announcer voice on. :erm:
Don't jump the gun on all this. Some of us like listening to different languages for the hell of it.

Though granted I'm not gonna go out of my way to do all that to have JPN voice acting in the game.

Omnislash124 Mar 2, 2008 05:06 PM

Hmm....I'm not sure why they bothered to change Ike's voice from the Path of Radiance release...I thought he sounded fine then. I still wish they had the original Japanese voices, much like they did in melee. I just don't see why they went through the trouble to hire more voice actors for no real reason.

It could be because American gamers speak English.

Chaotic Mar 2, 2008 10:08 PM

Never bothered anyone in Melee that Roy and Marth spoke Japanese...

If you want Japanese voice actors, you should purchase a Japanese version of the game. It's completely absurd to get upset at Nintendo using English voice actors for an American version of the game. In fact, it's such a minute part of the game I can't believe anyone is upset over this in the first place. In an effort to make a very complete product, Nintendo did their best to localize each version of the game. But oh no, someone's gotta bitch about something. I, for one, will be playing the game and enjoying it rather than whining about why the characters don't sound like they're from an anime.

Cheezeman3000 Mar 2, 2008 10:30 PM

They really should've been in English in the first place. From what I recall, the only reason they're in Japanese is because they weren't planning on keeping Marth and Roy in the American game until the last minute, after it was too late to hire people for voiceovers.
