You realize, of course, that Oregon hasn't played a single team worse than Tulane, Middle Tennessee, and Louisiana Tech. I bet they'd be happy having 3 such gimmes on their schedule. Oregon's non-conference schedule was the 3rd best team in the WAC, the 3rd best team in Conference USA, and Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Anyway, so, here is an interesting little BCS wrinkle. Right now, it is nearly impossible to fill all the spots.

LSU (BCS #1) goes to the NCG #1.
Oregon (BCS #2) goes to the NCG #2.
Ohio State (Big Ten champ) automatic Rose #1.
Virginia Tech (ACC champ) automatic Orange #1.
Kansas (Big-12 champ) automatic Fiesta #1.
Oklahoma (At-Large #1) replaces LSU as Sugar #1.
Arizona State (At-Large #2) replaces Oregon as Rose #2.
West Virginia (Big East champ) selected as Orange #2.

At this point, we have 2 spots left. The two most important things here is that at-large teams must be in the top 14 and no conference can have 3 or more teams. In my scenario above, this means Missouri, Texas, and USC are eliminated from consideration.

Left for the 3 spots: Georgia, Florida, Virginia

So we assume Fiesta takes Georgia or Florida (the other being eliminated as a 3rd SEC team) and Sugar takes Virginia. Virginia is the very last team eligible for an at-large berth.

#15 right now is Clemson, and if Clemson were to switch places with Virginia, there would be no team eligible for the final Sugar Bowl slot. There is absolutely nothing in the BCS rules that governs a scenario on what to do if there aren't enough eligible at-large teams.

Look for either Hawaii or Boise State to fill that final hypothetical spot. By the end of the season, one or the other will end up in the top 14.

Non-BCS conference teams have to get to the top 12. :)

I misspoke a little, because for some reason I was putting Clemson in the SEC. But the fact remains that we are one SEC, Pac-10, or Big-12 team away from fucking up the entire BCS formula.

Slash Nov 12, 2007 01:23 AM

Yeah...lets not fuck up the BCS formula or we'll get like..Notre dame in some bowl game like that whole fiasco a couple years ago

Yes, I know, everyone has fluff games. I said that both LSU and Oregon blew out these teams. I was just saying in response to "Oregon isn't just squeaking by in all its games like LSU is." The games LSU had to squeak out of were all against tough ranked opponents, including a very special game called the Saban Bowl down in Tuscaloosa which was accompanied by a lot of emotion. The games Oregon played against ranked teams, well they didn't blow them out so to speak.

That being said, LSU has been playing sloppy, and needs to take control, hold control, and stop with the penalties. Both Oregon and LSU match up well and it'll be a good BCS NCG (fingers crossed). Also while the NCG is supposed to be at a "neutral site" New Orleans really isn't very neutral. 2003 anyone?

Trigunnerz Nov 12, 2007 12:13 PM

Oregon vs. LSU. Think it will be a good game? At least it won't be another Florida-OSU game. Oregon will do well to represent the PAC-10. Go Oregon!

Go Trojans! We beat Cal 24-17! That rain was fucking horrible. I'm pretty much sick because of that. A very good chance to go to the Rose Bowl! (again. For like the 3rd straight year).

Only one more big win against ASU and off we go!

Beat the Sun Devils!

Slash Nov 12, 2007 04:41 PM

Yes...go USC so Oregon can win out and then take the Pac-10 title.

(lets just hope USC doesn't do what they did against UCLA last year that forced them into the rosebowl)

Trigunnerz Nov 16, 2007 12:48 AM

Holy fucking shit!

Oregon loses to Arizona 34-24!

LSU vs Oklahoma for National Champion.

Fucking. Wow. I wasn't expecting that.

BlueMikey Nov 16, 2007 12:57 AM

Every Arizona home game I went to this year, they lost.

Every Arizona home game I didn't go to this year, they won.

Lukage Nov 16, 2007 01:23 AM

Thanks for not going.

Missouri's got a better chance now of slapping Kansas around like a doll to play Oklahoma. I just want to prove that Kansas hasn't played anyone and that we'll stomp them like we did last year, but we could and should have beat Oklahoma earlier this season and the rematch will be delicious. Like cake.

IdleChill Nov 16, 2007 02:10 AM

WAIT WAIT......HAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.....

i just noticed (i dont have espn)....hahahahaha....

i better not laugh too much...heh.

Slash Nov 16, 2007 02:13 AM

Damn...sucks Oregon lost...but shit...Dixon could be like..done for good.

His knee...I don't think knees are supposed to bend like that.

BlueMikey Nov 16, 2007 02:55 AM

Don't look now, but if ASU loses to USC and Arizona (wholly possible) and UCLA beats Oregon (no Dixon) and USC (also wholly possible), UCLA is guaranteed to go to the Rose Bowl.

Yes, a 7-5 team in the Rose Bowl. A team that is not likely to even be ranked in the BCS standings could get into a BCS bowl.

Trigunnerz Nov 17, 2007 05:24 PM

Man. I really feel bad for Oregon though. Dixon fucked up his knee in the first quarter. Like his season is over. I hope his playing days aren't over though.

IdleChill Nov 17, 2007 05:54 PM

Haha, Alabama lost to Louisiana-Monroe. Take that Nick Saban! (Sorry, russ)

That might not be happening if Oklahoma can't get it together in these last 13 minutes of the game.

Trigunnerz Nov 17, 2007 11:44 PM

Man what the fuck is this shit? I have no idea now. Kansas? God I hope not.

We'll take care of that next week. Fuck kU. Curse of the #2 ranking.

SuperSonic Nov 18, 2007 12:18 AM

I wish that curse had applied to LSU when they were #2.

Slash Nov 18, 2007 01:32 AM

=)

Only 2 more wins and we're in. I hope the Jayhawks make it in. I'd love to see LSU tear 'em apart. Too bad Missouri will take them out.

Slash Nov 18, 2007 02:33 AM

I want to see hawaii fuck the bcs system up

Yeah, I'd root for kansas if I were you, because I'm pretty sure Missouri is gonna blow out LSU's defense with our rawr spread no-huddle offense.

By not being in a major conference? Its already fucked in that regard, thus their poor placement.

Arainach Nov 18, 2007 07:23 PM

Not going to lie, that weekend was perfect. Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, and Iowa all lost. And Michigan State - Penn State has to have been about the most amazing game I've ever watched. All in all, a 7-5 record and, if there's any decency in the universe, the Insight bowl (please no Motor City, please no Motor City).

Uh, I am an Auburn fan. I really get tired of listening to all the Alabama fans talking up Saban like he is some savior, so while them losing to Mississippi State was nice, and losing to ULM was even nicer. I almost feel bad for Alabama fans. Almost. Also, I called the Texas Tech defeat of Oklahoma very early in the season while having college football discussions with a coworker, so I was pretty pleased to see that I was right about at least one thing this year.
