Rare gold enemies seem to be weak to criticals, from what I can tell. Try equipping a Persona with high Luck when trying to kill them, I think it may help (though I haven't actually tested this).

I suggest only going to Tartarus during the night before the full moon, and maybe once or twice in the month before it. Since you can do all your grinding at the last minute, it seems best to boost S-Links/social stats during the other days, especially Academics. The only other time you need to go is to get cash (which you probably do a lot early on).

Oh, and if it's the night before the full moon, bring lots of items, especially revival. You can't go to shop, obviously. I almost got screwed over once because I didn't have any items left, but managed to pull it through somehow.

I remember this was asked awhile back indirectly, but I think all S-Links are independent with one another once you've unlocked them. Some S-Links require a certain level of another S-Link, but after that it doesn't matter.

Another thing I noticed earlier, when trying to do quests that require killing monsters for an item, accept the quest first. In some cases the monster won't drop the required item unless you have the quest (gold enemies are like this, which is pretty annoying). This applies to a few "real life" quests as well.

I'm only a couple of hours in but I'm really enjoying the game so far. Nothing really bugs me at all.

There seems to be an undub torrent available but I personally like the English voice acting. Junpei, Mitsuru and Yukari all sound fine to me. Akihiko's okay.. but whatever, can't complain.

Gechmir Aug 19, 2007 03:53 PM

Only VA Gripe:
Fuuka's voice actor is my only gripe. CHRIST she bugs me. Her and the brunette girl in that story arc. Ugh.

Chaotic Aug 19, 2007 04:16 PM

Woot, finally got my 5th member. <_<

Haven't advance much since that.

I'm at the 3rd block now. What level should I be at? I'm only level 15...

Also, I don't really have any gripes with the voice actors, but I do agree with Gech on that other character. The 5th doesn't really apply for me.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 19, 2007 04:57 PM

You're in the 3rd Block at lvl. 15? Man, how'd you beat the skeletal knight boss at that level? I tried him at 17 and had to level up to 20-21 to take him down.

As for the VAs, I agree with Gech. Fuuka is the only one so far to irritate me a bit, but I got used to her.

Gechmir Aug 19, 2007 06:11 PM

How do you recommend taking down the Emperor boss on 2nd Block, past midway? He uses wind stuff and hits two-timers pretty often D= I'm around lev 21 and don't wanna try again quite yet. He's the second boss in the 2nd half. Big horseback dude.

Got this game the day it came out (gutted copy but eh, it was in good shape), and I've been hooked ever since I started. I love the blend between being a shadow hunter at night and normal high school student by day. Even though there isn't much exploring to do, there is a nice level of immersion to the world. The music is one of the most interesting aspects I've noted thus far, as it doesn't seem quite what I was expecting, but at the same time has a nice beat to it.

By the way, did anyone else get the official strat guide? I did just because it was by Double Jump books instead of Prima or Brady Games, and because I wanted something that was official so I knew that the Persona fusion tables and such would all be accurate. But man, the actual strategies sometimes seem lacking in terms of the boss strats it advises. For example

Spoiler:
On the priestess boss in the monorail train, it made no mention how she summons two helpers on her first turn, where one heals and the other attacks. Not only that, but it suggested to use fire attacks against the helpers, and I know for a fact that those wouldn't work on the first left helper as I tried that the first time and got owned. I'm kinda disappointed by that part, even though I managed to beat the Priestess on my second try (this was before i had even bought the guide). But I hope their strats on some of the other bosses aren't as bare bones as I go on

Just luck out. I won it through straight out attrition. I was doing most of the healing, Yukari on support and Akihiko was the only one doing any real damage so I just concentrated on keeping him and myself alive and eventually we won out. Goes without saying but bring a persona that's strong/nulls garu skills.

^ Really? I killed her on my first go at her and encountered no problems whatsoever..maybe you're underleveled?

well here what I did, this is evident but don't take junpei for this battle since he is weak vs wind, Yukari is key to win this I'd say, set her tactic in support and she will be of great help to keep everyone healed since the boss does pitiful damage on her. Mitsuru and Akihiko were dealing most of the damage on this boss and all I used besides healing skills (media mainly to heal everyone in one go) when I had an opening to attack was jack brothers skill(jack frost and pyro jack it knocks down all enemies on a chance) to try and knock him down and use an all out attack from time to time, if you and Yukari both use a wind resistant persona or you at least use one that isn't weak to it, it should go fine.

What Tokubetsu said, but also be sure your persona isn't weak to Hama stuff. Twice the boss just used Hama on my main character and ended the battle. If you want to grind all the way to lvl. 25 then you could fuse a Power (strong to Garu, nulls Hama) but I ended up beating him at 23 with someone who was just strong to Garu. Oh, and obviously don't use Jubei. I got lucky in the fight where I won, and the boss kept targetting Yukari with Garula and wasted turns casting Rakukaja on himself.

I haven't had any trouble with the full moon bosses. I've done the first three full moons, and they've all seemed fairly weak.

I constantly use Cadenza. Even though I've out leveled Orpheus a long time ago I constantly keep him around just for that. With the HP restoration and the Evasion Up thing, it works like a charm. :)

But so far, I'm only at level 16. I just beat those three Golden Beetles on floor 47. <.<

Either that, I'm just extremely lucky. The only times I've ever died were against normal enemies, never bosses or level guardians yet. <.<

Question does "Splitting the party = Killing Shadows" Increase my experience too?

I've seriously fall in love with this game, I wonder if the arcade will open up. D=

Chaotic Aug 19, 2007 08:34 PM

The less people you have, the less you have to split up the total amount of experience you earn, so yes.

Talaysen Aug 19, 2007 10:10 PM

Actually, not really. You're not splitting the EXP four ways, but only one person gets the EXP, so you still get the same amount of EXP. Unless there's some kind of bonus that I'm missing here, at least.

Also, using stuff like Marin Karin usually helps against the Tartarus bosses.

LS Aug 19, 2007 11:05 PM

Aww that explains the slow leveling of my party mates, my god Mudo = annoying, I need something to counter that!

Chaotic Aug 19, 2007 11:07 PM

Cadenza? It's always worked for me.

I let all my teammates do the attacking. I just sit there and constantly heal them.

LS Aug 20, 2007 02:56 AM

I just fused orpheus with someone to get lLilim, so i dont have cadenza, is there any way to unfuse persona fused persona?

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 20, 2007 02:58 AM

You have to buy them back from the Compendium, which you get soon after the first exam week I think. Orpheus comes already registered in it, along with whatever Persona you have at the time.

Elixir Aug 20, 2007 03:20 AM

Fuck, I just realized the headphones are actually available to purchase in real life. As is the main character's mp3 player, which is a 1 gb silver sony walkman. I must now proceed to buy both immediately. :(

The cheapest versions of those headphones/mp3 player I found were these:

Headphones (a lesser model, not the exact pair, but it looks just like the game's ones)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/cus...R2G4OK35NFN59N

MP3 player lookalike (no one has been able to find the "exact" player that he wears in the game)

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Aug 20, 2007 10:36 AM

Those headphones look fantastic, but a few reader review complained about the bass output. That would make me hesitant to buy them.

Rock Aug 20, 2007 10:43 AM

So are you people concentrating on S-Links one at a time or are you trying to equally push all your acquaintances? Seeing how little time you actually have to spend, I'm beginning to think I should focus more on the S-Links I really need for my Persona.

I'm wondering if you get more "free" time to spend with friends later in the game. It's essentially one activity per day and then it's evening. Seeing how the day actually has a lot of unused phases, I'm hoping you'll eventually get the chance to do some more stuff in one day.

LS Aug 20, 2007 12:02 PM

Currently Level 12, I am on the second part of the tower, Should i grind more before trying to attempt to reach the borderline?

Gechmir Aug 20, 2007 12:17 PM

The XP difference is rather large between the first and second blocks, but I STRONGLY recommend that you have someone or something with Zio (electricity). Otherwise, you will get squashed, and *fast*.

Jujubee Aug 20, 2007 01:24 PM

To beat Change Relic boss at the end of 2nd Block use Omikon(sp) persona. It's the only one you can use with wind resistance at that point. It may also benefit you to only use Hero and Yukari, because it'll kill the other two members. Just keep yourself healed, debuff the boss and use only physical attacks. Worked for me. :)
