Oh man, that was fucking excellent! I truly enjoyed this episode, it might be my favorite of all time!! Pure gold.
http://h1.ripway.com/hikarub/snapshot20070731022833.jpg If I had never seen Haruhi, this might've been my reaction too.... Anyway, do these characters have any significance? They're female but their voices weren't done by guys.... Spoiler:
Awesome stuff! :judge: |
Because it was Gamers and she's wearing a little bunny in her hair, I thought it was a subtle reference to Digi Charat (she would be Rabi~En~Rose), but that bit with the kid doesn't seem to make much sense if that's what it is. So I guess I don't know! :D
|
Evidently the two are characters from the Lucky Star Moe Drill DS game.
|
Ahaha, this is just too much for me to handle. |
Man, episode 17 is weird.
and wtf Drama in my Lucky Star? lucky channel's special guest:
Oh yeah, for some reason I was expecting Jack Bauer to show up for some reason. |
It's alomst as if Williams Street created a Japanese brantch and told them to copy thier odd sence of humor, almost.
|
|
a.f.k. are taking their time with episode 17. I wonder what's taking them so long with this episode? I really wanna see who these guests are!!
:( |
a.f.k. released both episode 17 and 18 together.
-Episode 17 -Episode 18 Between Lucky Star and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Strato must be working at a furioius pace to get stuff out on time. =================== Both episodes were awesome, from the more prominent featuring of other characters (I died at Hiyori's seme-uke gag) to SUDDENLY SERIOUS ACTION (oh those Hiiragi sisters). The best part might've been the credits on 18, though. You kind of got the impression Minoru could sing from the previous credits, but they were all pretty gag-like. Well, no more confusion! Guy can seriously sing, and it would appear that his composition skills are pretty decent too. Also, Tsukasa's voice actor is kind of pretty. :33: |
There were some speed subs that came out before A.F.K did, and they were fine. I got the AFK ones now to be consistent in the subs.

Lucky Star is awesome. Is there any chance of an English dub?
|
For the love of God and all that is Holy, I sure hope not. An English dub would most certainly fail to capture the brilliance of the original voice work.

But it's not like people are going to run around making fandubs or anything (and expect them to get taken seriously). |
Episodes 17 and 18 were indeed, awesome, and we finally have some indication of exactly who the hell the other people that show up in the opening are. It's also quite interesting how similar, yet simultaneously different, the characters are from each other, especially the first grade class.
As for an English dub, I really hope not. There's something about the Japanese voices that makes it charming and unique and just something that can't be copied with other languages. English voice actors piss me off anyhow, as I have yet to come across one good dub. (Then again, I don't follow dubs, but all the same. The Dual Audio anime that I do have sound horrendous in English.) |
I've never really been a class warrior when it comes to the whole dubs/subs thing, I can see some people preferring dubs (though I'm not one of them). Why would you "hope not" to a dub? What do you have to lose by a dub being released? I mean, I can see the issue if it was still the VHS era or DVDs didn't come with Japanese+subtitles, but that's always the case nowadays with good shows.
Plus, I actually think Haruhi was done justice in English. Honestly, I was surprised at how good it was from accidentally watching a few minutes of it when I played the DVDs without choosing the right audio track. Hopefully when Lucky Star comes out on DVD in the west, it'll have similarly good voice acting for those that like dubs. Anyway, I like these new characters, I wish they'd introduced them a bit sooner to be honest... I feel like they probably won't get enough time in now. I actually wish the entire show was longer--last time I felt that way was with Azumanga Daioh! |
These were funny episodes, though I still thought episode 16 was the best in my opinion.
SRW parody ftw!! Spoiler:
At last all the cast members have been revealed and introduced. It does seem a little late, but I'm sure there are gonna be great stories just the same!! |

As for the last point, this is true, isn't it? The entire series is supposed to go for 24 episodes, right? The last few characters are introduced in episode 18, leaving about 6 episodes to flush out the rest of their backgrounds, which is a bit short. It's also a bit hard to see a second season unless it focused on the students from Year 1. |
I'd definitely recommend the dubs, especially since my dear favourite Aya Hirano is Konata. <3 I don't really know any people who watch dubs anyway though!

There's no need for a sequel or anything. You need to cherish what you already have, after all.
Prolonging the series would probably do it a disservice. There is such a thing as overstaying your welcome and all. |
Although I think it would be interesting to see some of those character in college, it is a completely different kind of environment (as far as my experience goes...), and also it would be good if there are more campus type story oriented around college rather then high school as it usually is...
|
It would work. But it probably wont happen like Saka said before. I wanted a Azumanga Daioh sequel with everyone going to college but they never made it >.>.
Besides, Lucky Star is getting a bit..boring. I mean it still has its moments but I've seen too many recycled scenes that it makes me stop the episode halfway when it's about to get "good". I only wish they can just make more reference to other things rather than the same shit like FMP and Haruhi. Sure they did something from SRW but that's only because FMP was in it (And those games kicked ass ^^; ). The only thing saving the episodes is probably Lucky Channel and the 4 new characters who get at least 10-15 mins of air time. Maybe it's not enough.. Too much Gintama. |

I don't see how wishing for a sequel means you don't cherish what you have. |
The Azumanga Daioh anime covered the entire run of the manga. There's no more material left to animate. Even if there were, I've heard that Kiyohiko Azuma wasn't very fond of the animation for whatever reason, which probably rules out any sort of continuation.
As for cherishing what you have, well... I kind of associated that with being satisfied with what you've already got. |

There's more material here and there of Azumanga to animate, but I absolutely wouldn't want them to. I would want Azuma to draw a sequel to Azumanga Daioh, probably not even in 4komi format but the longer format like Yotsubato, or perhaps even longer serial format, since 4komi doesn't seem to fit with college life for some reason. Maybe that could be made into an anime, if it's good. Anyway, that's more of a daydream than anything else. D: |
Uguu, why did they have to Introduce Tamura-san so late in the series. :x I can totally identify. =w= I like how Yutaka and friends can probably have their own series. :3
