Bob's House of Hardware now has their review up. 9.5 for those viewers playing at home.

deadally May 7, 2006 10:24 AM

IGN gave it a 9.5 as well

Can;t wait to get this one!

Darkcomet72 May 7, 2006 04:10 PM

If you hate Gamespot's Streaming, you can see all 8 new Gamespot videos here..

It's all 8 videos in 1. The videos are squashed, unfortunately, because it has both screens. I still prefer it over Gamespot's infinite PSP commercial barrage guarding the videos.

The best part is World 3-2 where the enemies jump in time with the music.

chato May 7, 2006 05:52 PM

watching all 8 in one just changed my mind about the game. It looks good.

Yes! I thought that was really cute.

The music really seems dull though. It's really a disappointment for me. I'd expect it to me more memorable then the childish feel to it.

NovaX May 7, 2006 07:54 PM

It's Mario, it's Mario music. What were you expecting, some orchestra symphony?

vuigun May 7, 2006 08:03 PM

What do you mean, "it's mario music"? I'd expect the game to have some actual good music like all of the other Mario platformers.

I don't want any dull 'remixes' of songs I've already heard or this new main theme that doesn't interest me much.

The music was really like the only thing that I was really anticipating about the game. I'm disappointed in what I've heard so far.

NovaX May 7, 2006 08:50 PM

The only thing you were anticipating? Jesus. I don't think anyone thought, "Hay, this Mario is going to be SHIT, but have the most bestest music ever!"

It's a Mario platformer, it's going to have "childish" music. If that's what you don't like about it, I don't know why you think past-incarnations are any better.

vuigun May 7, 2006 09:02 PM

The music was basically the only thing I was excited about. Sorry that the thought of someone caring for the music confuses you.

I'd say the past games had better music but judging by your responses, it doesn't seem like you even care about the music so it's kinda pointless to discuss this when you don't really care. =/

What the fuck are you even doing here then.

Sorry, but you're a retard. It's a traditional Mario platformer. To think the music would be anything but what would fit in a traditional Mario platformer would make you the most naïve and retarded person ever.

I formally request you leave now.

What do you mean? Who said that I completely didn't care about the game? I simply was looking forward to the music a great deal.

I was hoping the music to be atleast as catchy as the Super Mario Bros. theme or the Super Mario Land theme (great memories in that theme). I'm sorry if I'm naive for thinking the music would be better quality.

Nah, I think I'll stay. I love how you throw around those insults though. I give you a B+.

Keep 'em coming.

deadally May 7, 2006 09:49 PM

Well, that doesn't show all the music, either, Sonic

vuigun May 7, 2006 09:54 PM

I know. As I've said earlier, so far, I'm disappointed.
Especially with that underground theme. (which is just a remix of the old underground theme)

FatsDomino May 8, 2006 06:50 AM

Well it isn't Koji Kondo handling the music for this game. Probably because he's busy working on Twilight Princess. I'm sure if he would have been on the job it would be much different. I too admit it doesn't have the usual Mario music feel to it. But that doesn't really matter too much as the game rocks and I'm sure there will be some songs in there that will be very good. And really now, that was just from a few levels. The entire game isn't like that. In fact it supposedly has a lot of great remixes from what I've heard.

vuigun May 8, 2006 07:04 AM

Oh, okay. Well that makes me feel a little better about it. I did think the music didn't sound like Koji Kondo quality though. Oh well. I'm still really excited for the game.

Double Post:
Oh yeah, did anyone else think that mario has really speed up in this game?

He was zooming in the underground video I watched.

He may just have completely beaten Sonic. Mario combined good platforming with good speed.

Sin Ansem May 8, 2006 11:34 AM

...I disagree with your posts, Sonic.

For one thing, I think the music in this one sounds pretty damn good. Loving the Bowser Castle music.

Secondly, Mario HAS picked up some speed, but he's got a long way to go before he can trounce Sonic at his own game.

The Stomp'em blocks were doing it the Sand Levels too.

And to sonic, What? You were expecting us to get the Dragon Quest 8 treatment or somthin'?

Wait, a mario platform game with Orcastrated clasic themes? That actualy sounds wantable!

But Mario music's always been basic, heck, Yoshi's Island wasn't to complex in it's sounds and that's hailed as a masterpiece sonics wise.

Kaleb.G May 8, 2006 12:42 PM

So far, the music sounds decent, though no Kondo. It's still better than most of Super Princess Peach's soundtrack. Also, the desert music is good stuff.

It was a bit of an exaggeration but I'm just surprised at how much faster he was going then the previous Mario speeds. I wonder if they sped Mario up as a response to people previously complaining about how mario ran like an old man compared to sonic.

This reminds me off the enhancement to Fludd in Super Mario Sunshine. Mario actually did go as fast as sonic with it. Super Mario Sunshine...good times...

Nah, just a memorable theme that can be remembered over the years. When I made the post I was thinking of how much I liked the Mario Land theme a while back. It stayed with me. I just want the music from this game to do the same.

Oh well, carry on with the topic!

shadowlink56 May 8, 2006 04:30 PM

I'm a little tired of remixes of the old tunes myself. While they are enjoyable, I do like to hear new themes. Most of the Mario games these days have introduced old theme remixes while also having new themes. I'm sur ethis will be no different.

Are you talking about the video that's actually from Gamespot, or the YouTube link?

Since the YouTube version is about twice as wide proportionally, his movement speed is obviously going to look like it's twice as fast.

kensuke May 8, 2006 06:06 PM

When I loaded up the game, I actually felt that Mario was moving slower.. I guess it's been too long since I've played a proper Mario game.

As for the music, my initial impression was that it wasn't very memorable, but it's grown on me. I felt like this when I played Super Mario World 1 for the first time and thought "wtf, all new music??".

A trick of my eyes...

VitaPup May 8, 2006 07:37 PM

This game looks amazing!!! Why couldn't they release a game like this for the Game Cube?

vuigun May 8, 2006 07:46 PM

2D hasn't really been the focus of consoles since the N64 came out.

Maybe one day we will get more good 2D games on home consoles, but I don't think it will be anytime soon.
