Why is Cortana being such an omnipresent annoyance in that trailer? Ugh...

Megalith May 9, 2006 04:46 PM

Jen Taylor didn't even provide her voice for Cortana.

Talk about a rush job.

SketchTheArtist May 9, 2006 04:52 PM

I'm betting a hundred bucks that the Forerunners are linked to humans. If it's true, I can't wait to see the Prophets reactions in Surround. O_o

Megalith May 9, 2006 04:56 PM

LoL...oh my god. HALO 3 is actually Marathon Infinity.

You heard it here first.

WolfDemon May 9, 2006 05:26 PM

Looks like the Assault Rifle from Halo 1 is making a comeback. Awesome. I wonder if the Covenant Banshees and dropships flying past him means that Earth and the Covenant will be working together to beat the Prophets. It certainly seemed that way at the end of 2.

Could've done without the Monty Python and the Holy Grail fanfare though.

I like how that teaser is totally unimpressive if you watch it without sound.

Also, Master Chief is moving as if he's physically challenged. Can we get some decent animation system already?

Maybe it's part of the story.

Sexninja May 9, 2006 07:12 PM

Magic May 9, 2006 08:24 PM

Suddenly all this stuff is starting to make sense to me. Still waiting for a Marathon throwback.

It would totally make my day if you were right. But does this mean Cortana is supposed to be God?

dagget May 9, 2006 08:36 PM

Holy shit. That trailer was awesome. is it supposed to flash like a seizure-endusing strobe at the beginning and end though?

Looks like I have to pick up Halo 2 to see what the story is like. Haven't done so now because everyone said it blows.

Eitehr way you slice it, I'm getting an Xbox 360 for this.

Grundlefield Earth May 9, 2006 08:40 PM

I don't know what all this Marathon shit is. I never played the games, care to explain in short?

Fleshy Fun-Bridge May 9, 2006 09:32 PM

In summary, an insane omniscient artificial intelligence called Durandal drags around a security officer (the player)--who also happens to be an elite Mjolnir cybernetic soldier--in the hopes of finding the secret to escaping the eventual closure of the universe and thus achieving immortality.

There's a lot more to it, including two other AIs, a slaver alien race (the primary enemy), an enslaved alien race and its rich history, and an ancient God-like race known as the Jjaro. The story is revealed through interaction with various terminals which appear in the game.

T1249NTSCJ May 9, 2006 10:08 PM

Thanks for the explanation, I too have never bothered with any Halo titles and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Downloaded the trailer in 40 minutes through Xbox Live which wasn't that bad when you have your trusty DS connected via wifi and Mario Kart. :) Impressive visuals for a realtime demonstration and the attention to detail on Master Chief, best looking 360 title but sadly not in show. Few days left to see what ace Microsoft has up thier sleeve.

Just wondering what should gamers know before playing Halo 3, seeing as I missed out on 1 & 2. :ashamed:

SketchTheArtist May 9, 2006 10:12 PM

Play the first two games and read THE FALL OF REACH.

By the way, for those who didn't know anything about the story of the third game; the Covenants have wiped out the main human defenses on earth and are digging in the deserts of Africa. There, they have found something created by the Forerunners.

Matthias May 9, 2006 10:31 PM

Dang, I see i missed this thread when i started the other one. Oh well..anyways I am super stoked about this and am a HUGe fan even though I do not have a 360. I've read all the books and mastered the games (and even own a few action figures)! Cant wait..super excited, etc.

kainlightwind May 9, 2006 10:43 PM

So I get to run around the depths of Africa and shoot alien wild life? Man. Halo 3 will be great but...Africa? Why?

Matthias May 9, 2006 10:51 PM

Thats where all of the earth battles were in Halo 2, so i suppose there is a connection...and that is probably why the covenant landed in new mombosa in the first place...looking for that artifact (the arc)

Frylock May 9, 2006 10:57 PM

Why not? I've yet to see a game take place in Africa. Besides, that's where man originated from, so it's only fitting to have it end there... Perhpas there's some connection there.

I like the sound of that.

Yeah, but then there's all kinds of stuff hidden in the game that people've been picking apart for years. All the garbled terminal messages, hidden meanings, symbols, etc. I don't think Halo or Halo 2 did much to connect themselves to Marathon aside from the symbol and some references sprinkled throughout, but that trailer suggests that Halo 3 probably will.

WolfDemon May 10, 2006 02:39 AM

If they go back to Halo 1 weapons, then they'd better do away with dual-wielding. Halo 1 deathmatch was bad enough with one pistol. Think of the horror two pistols would cause.

Some of Halo 2's weapons were good. I actually liked 2's shotgun better than 1's. And the needler was actually useful when paired with another needler or an SMG. The Battle Rifle and the magnum made me want to vomit though.

russ May 10, 2006 11:38 AM

I rolled with double pistols in Halo 2 every chance I got. Forget battle rifles, shotguns, rocket launchers, SMGs, sniper rifles, and swords, the most fun you could have on Halo 2 was having everyone run around with dual pistols.

SketchTheArtist May 10, 2006 12:03 PM

Hands down SMGs with Spike gun. Best combination.
