I guess nobody has any roleplaying issues with turning in the sword and just taking the money. (but it's such a good sword :( )

Zergrinch Jan 18, 2009 06:34 AM

Nah, give it up. I'm sure it's worth less than that 500 GP reward!

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jan 18, 2009 06:41 AM

I vote to keep it. That way we can have a fight with some mercs every night before bed.

Or, we could try to barter some information out of the criminal boss...

Bradylama Jan 18, 2009 07:08 AM

It's actually worth more than the reward. What if we just turned in the symbol of Bahamut as proof of death?

The unmovable stubborn Jan 18, 2009 07:11 AM

You mean the shattered one that's in shiny little chunks all over the floor?

Bradylama Jan 18, 2009 07:19 AM

I guess we'll have to give up the sword then.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jan 18, 2009 08:44 AM

Underworld contacts are always a good source of jobs and info though, I'm sure we'll benefit in the long run.

No. Hard Pass. Jan 18, 2009 05:33 PM

Yeah, that or they'll just try to kill us in order to make the trail of who killed whom go cold for Johnny Law. Gabriel will really not like profiting off the cold blooded murder of a righteous Paladin, either. Kord would understand using his tools to better the group for combat. He likes fighting. But grave robbing, profiting, and then WORKING for the guys who did it? Nuh uh.

Bradylama Jan 18, 2009 06:46 PM

We didn't actually kill Lord Broden, nor did we rob any graves. We got the sword from the wizard's house, the only thing of Broden's we've got is that +1 Plate.

We can always go back and ask around Freeport to see who killed Lord Broden. We can also just see if we can work out a deal with the bounty issuer to see if we can keep the sword and complete the quest that way.

No. Hard Pass. Jan 18, 2009 06:49 PM

I say we keep the sword and just let this go. Our deal was with Broden. Broden is gone, our deal is done. Might as well move on to the next thing. Not really high on the idea of getting my throat slit in the dark for trying to deal with a crime lord.

Sarag Jan 18, 2009 07:09 PM

Similarily my character isn't going to be happy about turning the sword in.

However, there is something to be said about keeping an eye on the HBA, if we want to know who threw us in the dungeon. And on the other other hand, it may be fruitful to find out why Broden and the sword are targetted if we keep the giant bulls-eye on us.

Although I'm sure Pang would be more than delighted if we had that kind of hubris, wanting to bump some people off to put new players in our slots...

No. Hard Pass. Jan 18, 2009 07:21 PM

Well we know who the middle man was for going after Broden. And its probably fair to say whoever put him on the trail is going to be hard to find out, not to mention decidedly too much for us to handle. I say we go about our business and try and keep our ears and eyes open for information. I'm betting if we find who the corrupting influence in Freeport is, we'll find who tossed us in the dungeon, who tried to kill Broden, and who canceled Firefly.

I, personally, find the idea of starting a gangwar with the the Halfling mafia both hilarious and worthwhile.

Sarag Jan 18, 2009 07:40 PM

This is (apparently) the Mexican midget mafia. I... I'm speechless.

THEY HAVE SPIDERMAN

knkwzrd Jan 18, 2009 07:55 PM

They also have three gay cowboys and a late-period Marlon Brando impersonator.

Bradylama Jan 18, 2009 07:58 PM

I dunno how Pang is approaching quest resolutions but the first thing we should do when we get back to Freeport (after getting some sleep) is to head to the HBA and try to see what we can do about the sword. If we're going to get constantly hounded about it, it's just not worth it. Plus broadsword proficiency is just a +2 anyways =I

No. Hard Pass. Jan 18, 2009 08:32 PM

Well sir, end of the day, it's your sword. So I'm comfortable leaving that in your hands. Gabe is wearing Broden's armour as a reminder of what happens when the just overestimate themselves and fall into the trappings of vanity.

Also, because he won't allow the last person who wore it to be that pretender.

Sarag Jan 18, 2009 08:57 PM

And because it's better than what you have. Nothing wrong with being pragmatic.

No. Hard Pass. Jan 18, 2009 08:59 PM

Well that's the practical side. I'm talking rp reasons why he isn't disgusted with himself.

Bradylama Jan 18, 2009 10:14 PM

Hey Pang, I've looked over the armor table and noticed the Check stat:

Quote:

Check: You take this penalty to all Strength-, Dexterity-,
and Constitution-based skill checks when you
wear the armor. You don’t take the penalty to ability
checks (such as a Strength check to break down a door
or a Dexterity check to determine initiative in combat).
So I'm assuming this only applies to skill checks and not things like attack rolls, right? So if I wore a plate armor and carried the heavy shield would that mean I'd effectively have a Constitution skill of 4 instead of 8? Or does it just effectively lower my strength and constitution for the purposes of those skill checks?

yup yup

No. Hard Pass. Jan 19, 2009 12:44 AM

Right. In future, take off armour and shield during skill checks.

The unmovable stubborn Jan 19, 2009 01:01 AM

Yes. You do that.

"A huge rock is blocking the path!"

"I take off all my armour so I can push it more effectively."

"Suddenly 17 Knife Ghosts attack for no good reason!"

"FFFFFFUUUUUUHHHH"

(hell in retrospect I should've probably ruled that you weren't sleeping in your armor either)

No. Hard Pass. Jan 19, 2009 01:08 AM

Well, sure. There is that side of things.

Also, if I'm going to be using a new superior weapon, say, a Craghammer, I have to take a specific weapon feat for JUST craghammers, right? Can't just use my hammer proficiency? Or take a feat in superior weapons in general?
