http://xs307.xs.to/xs307/06413/motorpack.jpg Anyone else as impressed by the first sets of boxart as I am? I'm digging the higher quality fonts and extra space at the top. I can't wait to see what some of the bigger games will pull (MGS, FF). |
The Motorstorm box art is pretty cool, it's certainly going to catch the eye more than the Japanese one. The Ridge Racer one fits really well with the side bar, but it just seems so depressing for a game that's about impossible powerslides, helicopters at every single turn and goofy announcers talking about rolling in jelly or whatever for no reason when you pull into the lead.
There's also NBA with its useless huge 1080p logo. I hope this doesn't become standard, leave that shit for the back of the box. =\ http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...8938_front.jpg |
Oh god please dont let the PS3 be all about sport and driving sims like the XBOX360 is. My housemates both have 360's and I constantly have to sit and watch them play Tiger Woods or stupid Table Tennis on them. I hate sports sims!!!! I REALLY HATE THEM! If we wanted to play sports, we would go outside and play them damn it.
On a different note, I think the PS3 has shot itself in the foot by charging so much and putting the release back again. By that point, christmas is gone and people have either bought 360's or Wii's. No money left for the P£3. Its too expensive, and its too late. Oh and I have yet to see a release game that looks at all appealing. Sony really have dropped the ball this time, lets juat hope there are enough fan boys to keep the system afloat, because I smell some serious trouble for the Sony guys, I think Bill Gates may have won this round, as the 360 is just alot more successful, hell even im considering buying one, and I hated the X-Box. I am hoping for something good to come out of the release of the PS3, but at the moment, Sony arent getting my loyalty, because im not spending £60 on a game, that borders on insane. Sorry Sony, you lose for now. |
Did you just wake up after a month-long coma? Every EB/GS store in America sold out of pre-orders day one. And if it's $60 a game for the 360, what makes you think software sales will be any worse for the PS3? They're charging the same amount, you know.
The 360 can't techincally be considered a success yet, because it hasn't had any next-gen competition. |
Remember, things in UK and US are slightly different. Most 360 games are £34.99 here in places like Game and Gamestation.
Oh and my buddy who works in a big Game store in Birmingham said that when they announced pre-orders for the PS3, they didnt sign one up until 4 days after it was started, and to this day they are still in single figures. Its a matter of opinion though dude, I didnt mean to sound offensive or anything, just stating my thoughts on the console. Do you honestly think that the PS3 is going to do as well as the 360? Look at the way it has gone thus far, it is still difficult to get hold of 360's because more and more people are falling for its charm, where as the PS3 just hasnt got the hype it needs. Only people who are really really interested in the console know about it, but the general joe public dont even know there is another Playstation coming out. I think that Sony have failed on many accounts with the PS3, the price, the advertising and the release titles, nothing seems to be tempting enough to pull in the average joe. |
The 360 hasn't really even had a next gen game yet. DOA4, Saint's Row... what bullshit. The things barely look better then current gen and the stupid white brick can still barely handle them.
On the PS3 front at launch or launch window titles are; Resistance Ridge Racer Full Auto 2 Genji 2 Assasin's Creed MotorStorm WarHawk Non of which are sports sims (which I also hate with passion), and all of which are superior to any 360 game to date. Then further down the road you have; MGS4 8 Days Coded Arms UnrealTournament 2007 Final Fantasy XIII/VS XIII Virtua Fighter 5 KillZone Heavenly Sword Tekken 6 Mercenaries 2 White Knight's Story No... Sony hasn't lost it. And if you break it down, yes you are paying more for a PS3, but believe me. When you look at what you pay to what you get between the three systems, you get more with Sony, so it's not like you're not getting what you're paying for. Also further on the 360 front, after spring '07 you're not going to be seeing much for the 360 other then maybe Halo 3 in November... at best. I'm afraid that Microsoft has put all their eggs in one basket. Sure it might look to have more interesting titles around the Wii & PS3 launch, but if I've learned anything it's that some things are simply as they seem, and from here Microsoft just hasn't payed enough mind to the future and are going to be releasing everything around the same time. |

??? Thoes arn't sports sims!!!
Ridge Racer is futuristic cars doing physically impossible drifts. Full Auto 2 is racing with guns, do I need to explain this one? MotorStorm is possible, too bad it's not a sim, but an arcade racer. Man, learn how to read before you go bashing something that you either don't understand or can't comprehend. |
Beyond comprehension... Behold, the light stick...
Anyway, I guess it's just going to come down to me buying a PS3 when Metal Gear comes out. Damnit. |

The 360 has sports titles as well. Granted, I wasn't impressed either. But most console launches these days also come with a couple of sports titles. It's just the way it goes. |

I think "sims" was the word in question he was defending. Arcade style versus Simulator style. The line between the two these days is becoming a tad bit thin though. But you can still tell the difference between Gran Tourismo and Ridge Racer. Or, say, Pangya Golf or WiiSports Golf versus Tiger Woods Golf.

Durifuto is quite fun, guys. Find that curvy mountain road in your area and race. Everyday! =)

Okay Jesus Christ, people. I just basically loled so damn hard at this.

Cobalt Katze: Thank you, finally some one who understands what I was saying.
Spatula: Nice find, lol |
Calling Ridge Racer or Full Auto 2 SPORTS games is dumb, they aren't ACTUAL SPORTS. It's like calling Mario Kart a sports game. Real racers aka real sports at least require use of the brake button and represent something people do in real life.

Yeah, you're right, Dead Rising was pretty good. Gears of War, Mass Effect and BioShock are the only other ones coming out that could be called next-gen on the 360 too. Which is pretty sad, a next-gen system should have next-gen games, not this half assed porting junk.
|
You've got to admit, Slayer, that Genji 2 does not deserve to be put in a list of must-have games on PS3, especially alongside the others you listed.
As for whether or not those games are amazing, we'll really have to see. The trailer for Motorstorm makes the game look really fun and chaotic, but after seeing the actual gameplay, it just looks like ATV Offroad Fury HD to me. |
I glanced over the last few pages and didn't see anything. I was just wondering if there was any word on the number of units that Sony is shipping by the end of the year. Anything other than just rumors?
|
Are they supposed to ship a second shipment before xmas?
|
well they said 400 00 unit in for the launch and another 1.5m or something by the end of the year so basicly about 1m units for xmas (I hope they will be able to do it :\)

Hey, if sony can pull off 1.5m units before the end of the year then that's about half as many 360s that have sold to date. Obviously the trick at the beginning of every gen is to get as many systems into people's homes during the launch window because people want it simply because it's new. Therefore if Sony can catch up half way in a month and a half to the 360 then it'll still have a really good chance of catching up or beating the 360 in sales by the end of '07.
|
Ok I was referring to the PS3 UK release which is now middle of 2007. Maybe it doesnt apply as much to the americans then as the PS3 will be out before xmas there from what I understand. My apologies there.
Oh and I class most racing games as sports sims, because 99% of racing games are generically the same and quite boring after the initial playing. I was, however mis informed of some of the release titles, I was told NBA, a rugby game, 4 football games and some driving games were the only things on the list, looking at it now I notice that I was given incorrect info. Sorry. |
