That's why you look at the bottom and try to discern which character's cover you're getting. It worked for me with the FFX-2 and KHII LE guides.

rpgcrazied Oct 31, 2006 05:49 PM

im having a blast.. almost played for 7hours.. and im still in the first 2 zones, an just have Vaan :P

Freelance Oct 31, 2006 05:55 PM

I got it I got it! Yok yok. I think the EB I pre-ordered it from only got the CE editions, 'cause I haven't seen any copies of the regular editions whatsoever. As for the limited ed. cover, there weren't many left from what I saw in the box, as opposed to a gazillion copies of the regular version. My cover is of Balthier.

My sister is in the bedroom, so I'll play it a little later tonight. Nuts that I have to go to work! XD

I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. I'm only about an hour and a half into it, but I already like the more mature way they are handling the characters. Not that it's 'darker', but that Vaan and Panelo seem a lot more fun to play with then expecting. They're not annoying at all, which I was expecting.

By the way, I'm really quite new about the whole getting people to make you a sig thing, but I'd really love to have a FFXII sig. I just never did do very well with the whole pic-editing thing.

Oh, I got the regular edition, but mine came with a poster (because I pre-ordered) and I got the "Ashe" poster. There is one for every character in the game. I'd love to get them all...

Soldier Oct 31, 2006 06:22 PM

First 2 hour impressions.

Spoiler:
God DAMN!

Jochie Oct 31, 2006 06:50 PM

I got the game and really like it so far. I completely agree that it's like FFXI-2: Offline. There are cool characters and a story. Now I just have to see if any of the grinding stuff annoys me like in FFXI. It seems way toned down as far as the amount of patience you need to make progress with getting armor and learning abilities, which is very good. Gil seems to be short on supply, but things don't seem ridiculously expensive like in FFXI. Not having to deal with other real people makes battles much more enjoyable for me. This game is addictive. That's about all I have to say so far.

And the Whatever Den thing is adorable, but I have nothing in it.

kainlightwind Oct 31, 2006 08:21 PM

All and all, this game does appeal the mainstream MMO players. I like this turn of direction of the game and find it very fun. The side quests are great as well so if I want to level up or do something other than the main story, I have that option. Great great game.

Spatula Oct 31, 2006 09:10 PM

DUDE! I got it ^___^, it was a hell of a drive in the given weather conditions, but I'm happy now. Basically this is a copy pasta from my journal.

So here we have our EB Games where I have preordered my copy of Final Fantasy X-2, wait, I mean.

CLICK ME! This is just hiding lots of images to not drag the thread!:

The line up wasn’t as bad as I expected, which was pretty good for the mall at five o’clock in the afternoon. I’m glad I didn’t wait in line during the opening store hours, so choosing to go to work instead of taking this day off paid off quite nicely. There were only maybe 10 people in line, and of course , the lady right in front of me has to take 15 minutes to decided whether to go with the Xbox Core or Platinum, while I’m just squishing my preorder receipt in my hands, getting it all sweaty.

Unfortunately, they only had the regular walkthrough guide, despite me pre-ordering the limited edition guide as well, so they say it will come Friday.

After that, I decided to swing down to the local Best Buy and grab the freebie Art Book that came with the regular edition of the game. Yes, I did buy both the regular and Collectors Edition , but I plan to return the regular version of the game back to Best Buy. LOL, all that just for some measly art book. Oh well. :tpg:

Without further adieu, here are the goods:

So, I understand that Circuit City is selling Final Fantasy XII for $37.99.

I assume it's because they don't have any special offers or anything (like the Best Buy FFXII art book or the EB/Gamestop CE).

Spatula Oct 31, 2006 09:25 PM

I think they're willing to take the "hit" with the lowered price, since the demand would be pretty high and every place and their dog is selling it, so why not draw more people to them with shark pricing. :tpg:

I spent three hours playing!! 7 to 10pm! Oooo!!

I decided to attack a werewolf. Then another one appeared. Then I died :(
*note to self. Do not fight werewolves!*

Did anyone else get a Star Wars vibe at the beginning? The opening FMV is awesome.

Damn! The people who said the voice acting rocks was actually right!

I love the beastiary! It actually has several paragraphs for every monster so far, even the extra easy ones like Dire Rats. I like how each monster has a nice closeup. It'd be awesome if you could rotate them too.

The dialogue is indeed awesome like people said.

Does anything else think that the new consul of that uh, City (starts with R) look a lot like Laguna? The hair mostly anyway.

Spatula Oct 31, 2006 10:51 PM

Holy shit, I haven't even played the game, I just spent the last 1 1/2 hours watching the bonus disc. Really, I enjoyed it more than I expected, since I normally care less about bonus features, but this really made me want to get into it more.

majario Oct 31, 2006 11:04 PM

I'm played 7 hours so far and I'm lovin' it of course. One of the things I found very interesting is when your out battling in the fields you sometimes find allies along the way that help fight with you or they cast spells like protect on you while your battling. Once you leave the very limited area in which they are allowed to move they don't follow you but they can be very helpful when you are in a pinch. I thought this was a great idea and kudos to Squeenix for doing this.

On a side note, I'm going to have to go back to EB tomorrow b/c my bonus dvd doesn't work. When I try to view the commentary by the music composer, my dvd player and the PS2 lock up T.T. Hopefully they'll still have some copies of the CE edition left so I can get a new one. Is anyone else having this problem?

K_ Takahashi Oct 31, 2006 11:14 PM

The launch night was lame.

There was like 15 people and most of them were homies and shit, go figure.

The LE guide is pretty pimp ( I got Ashe for the cover, I came) along with the art book makes it work the money.

My review will come soon enough when I play more than the two hours I have attained already.

nanstey Oct 31, 2006 11:18 PM

Yeha, I'm about 7 hours in right now, it starts off a little boring, but kicks into gear slowly but surely. Overall, it rocks. The dialogue is very well dubbed (it doen't hurt that the motion capture is superb too) and I even like the dialect work, it really adds a sense that it's a full world with different tongues - though i can't understand a bloody thing the Seeq say. Well, gotta get back to save Ashe...

rpgcrazied Oct 31, 2006 11:44 PM

Spoiler:
is all the bosses like Firemane(it was so cinematic an very cool, specially his special move and his death scene:)

and OMG to the load screen music!

When I went to get my copy this morning, I was talking to the manager and he told me that 67 people came in on launch night and that was way more than he was expecting. They ordered pizzas and stuff like that. I wanted to go but I decided to get some sleep instead. I guess it's good that I didn't go b/c he told me that I would have had to wait a while b/c the line was so long. I don't really like crowds anyway so I guess the only harm done to me was that my bonus dvd doesn't play some parts. :(

Punishment Nov 1, 2006 12:08 AM

Well I just played for about 2 hours and it is freakin awesome. Unfortunately I KO'ed by some monster in the Giza Plains.

The dialogue and voice acting is superb. The story isnt so dry at all. I find it hard to stay on task and not go exploring. The world of Ivalice is HUGE!

PiccoloNamek Nov 1, 2006 12:13 AM

I've only just started playing, but it has been awesome so far. The voice acting IS very good, but I haven't seen much story yet. The in-game music sounds kind of dull compared to the CD music, but I suppose this is to be expected.

You know, I really hope the timer doesn't run when the game is paused...

Spatula Nov 1, 2006 01:17 AM

I just played for 2 hours and just still running around in Rabanastre. What a huge place this is. I love how walking around just bring back memories and ques to my mind. For example walking around the vendor, peddler, and food stalls just reminded me of that scene in Aladdin going through the merchants and seeing what was new in town.

Also, somehow when I lined up to get back into the city, it really felt like the guards wanted you to follow their orders. Stay in line or GTFO. Some of the Imperials are mean (obviously, LOL Stormtooper wannabees) while others feel somewhat pitiful for the citizens. When the guard was checking through the line, somehow this reminded me of Barney opening up the gate to Black Mesa in Half Life 1. In other words, it added that extra depth of realism to how it's like to live in Rabanastre with guards patrolling.

So far, it's the little things that make this game enjoyable. I'm off to check out the Tomato head dude that I gotta make "dinner" out of.

Also, BEST. VOICE. ACTING. SO FAR. Even Migelo's voice, quite pig sounding, still sounds authentic and reminds me of Watto from The Phantom Menace. See, these voices do sound alien, yet almost realistic at the same time; it's not overdone.

Major props to the voice acting in this game, seriously.

PiccoloNamek Nov 1, 2006 01:37 AM

I just saw Solidor's (sp?) speech, that was pretty damn awesome.

majario Nov 1, 2006 02:28 AM

Yeah, Rabanastre is huge. I had trouble finding things at first b/c I guess I'm not used to such freedom while walking through a town. The last FF game I played was FFX but the kingdom there was not as elaborate as Rabanastre. Lowtown is also pretty big. I got lost in there a couple of times but this is a good thing b/c it makes the game feel more real. Also, I think the song for Lowtown really fits well with the mood of the people down there and for this reason has made the ost much more enjoyable than it already is.

PiccoloNamek Nov 1, 2006 03:08 AM

Has anyone else noticed that the voice samples sound really loud, even when they shouldn't? The voice acting is great, but whoever mixed and mastered the vocal tracks obviously didn't know what they were doing. The voices in FFX sounded far more natural.
