Ok, I can buy the whole harder thing, but why would you want it to be THAT difficult? Working for something is totally understandable, but having it be honest to god HARD to unlock content for what's primarily a multiplayer game doesn't make sense. If only one in ten of the people playing have the skill to unlock some character, that's kind of a downer if all they want to do is play multi with their friends and experience all the content that way.

I figured easy unlocks were the point, so you DIDN'T have to waste time on the shithouse singleplayer and could move straight into the multi with minimal effort and bullshit. Fuck, they're probably just there so that people DO bother with the other modes instead of ignoring them completely.

It's the same logic that appear to be behind some achievements. I bet a large number of people bought COD4 because they loved the beta and were interested in the multiplayer, so they packed achievements into singleplayer so people would play it.

My preference would be a system where you can unlock everything in the game via either multiplayer matches or the other modes; but if you did it with multiplayer it'd take a lot longer than doing the "other modes" option. Like, beat singleplayer with 5 characters or play 250 matches total to unlock some random character. That kind of thing. That way everyone can choose their own unlock path but at the same time you don't have everything unlocked after 15 minutes of playing.

Some games have that ability where it was like " Do XX here either in single player campaign, or online", kinda like what they did with a few in Halo 3. That method you're talking about correct?

Melee already had a system exactly like that, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it back in Brawl. These were the numbers:

Quote:

Alternate Character Unlocks
To unlock characters a different way, you must must play a certain number of Vs. matches.

Dr. Mario - 100 vs. matches
Falco - 300 vs. matches
Ganondorf - 600 vs. matches
Jigglypuff - 50 vs. matches
Luigi - 800 vs. matches
Marth - 400 vs. matches
Mewtwo - 700 vs. matches
Mr. Game & Watch - 1,000 vs. matches
Pichu - 200 vs. matches
Roy - 900 vs. matches
Young Link - 500 vs. matches

Slash Nov 30, 2007 02:00 AM

Or like how you could get Mewtwo by leaving your Gamecube on for like...24 hours or whatever

The Temple!

This is the Temple stage from the last installment, Super Smash Bros. Melee.

I think that based on my updates so far, you probably understand that we’ve created plenty of stages.

But we wanted to do more, so we’ve brought back a number of stages that appeared in the last game.

And new temple music :o

Slash Nov 30, 2007 02:15 AM

SWEEEET. I LOVED this level.

trackjacket Nov 30, 2007 02:47 AM

They need to bring back Saffron City from the original. Probably my favorite stage in the series.

This is a pretty neat update, though. I'm guessing just a simple re-skinning was all that went into this. I'm sure there'll be many more "classic" stages to help bolster Brawl's overall stage count.

Slash Nov 30, 2007 03:06 AM

Ooo...Saffron City would be a lot of fun. Or maybe Links Temple from Smash Bros/

Lizardcommando Nov 30, 2007 03:44 AM

Hmm, the new music's not too bad. I hope the old Ice Climbers level isn't making a return... I never did like that one.

Dalkaen Nov 30, 2007 04:45 AM

This is pretty great news. I think pretty much everyone likes the Temple level. Of course, my favorite was Corneria, so I hope that returns. And yeah, ditto at Saffron City. I loved that level too.

Well then you should know that he's been making the game for us from the start. Because of that, it most likely that it won't be in there. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if there is a way to unlock the old Poke Stadium stange changes for the new one.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Nov 30, 2007 08:32 AM

This stage was fucking hilarious for Super Sudden Death mode + Very High BOB-BOMB item drops.

Having it back makes my fucking week. AWESOME.

Acro-nym Nov 30, 2007 09:59 AM

Well, that somewhat makes all new stages irrelevant.

rockthepartay Nov 30, 2007 10:38 AM

They couldn't add something new to it? Fuck.

Oh wait, they did. Mediocre music.

Scrapping the bottom of the barrel with these updates.

wvlfpvp Nov 30, 2007 10:54 AM

I dunno, I think scrapping the bottom of the barrel would be pretty fuckin' awesome. Because then there would be NO bottom and there would only be awesome.

Spell better.

Well, for the most part, I never liked the stage. The bastards I know who have absolutely no skill would fight for this stage because they could camp out for extended periods of time. And neither one of us would make the first move. <_<

And my friends chose this stage for the Fire Emblem music you'd occasionally get. Worst fucking reason ever to choose this stage.

If anything, bring back the first Pokemon Stadium. It goes hand in hand with the second one.

FatsDomino Nov 30, 2007 11:29 AM

Oh come on the pain box is hilarious. Everyone loves Temple.

wvlfpvp Nov 30, 2007 12:05 PM

The pain box in Temple is the best thing about playing Bowser.

Making fun of a typo is still funny?

Welcome to 1999, guys!

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the Temple, and replicating it without any new features is kind of disappointing.

SuperSonic Nov 30, 2007 01:34 PM

Well now a new question has arisen, "Which Melee stages will be put in Brawl?" Honestly, I'm glad they put the Temple stage in there as its one of my favorites. Same can be said for the music in the background.

Speaking of that music track, man that brought back the horrible memories of that last temple on Zelda II. Still, it's a pretty good arrangement...then Temple came in. I started screaming "No! Don't go away!" when it started to fade.

There are a certain number of Melee stages that I'd like to see in Brawl, like Brinstar, Poke Floats (very doubtful on this one), and maybe Super Flat Zone. However, I hope they keep out the Donkey Kong stages and Icicle Mountain. You think they would actually put stages from the N64 game in there?

Zeta26 Nov 30, 2007 01:52 PM

I also hope they bring back that F-ZERO stage; Big Blue. That was really fun.

It was always fun knocking people onto the lower level and then watch them zip by to their deaths.

What I want to see in this type of game is a King of the Hill type of mode/event. That would be kinda fun and hectic at the same time.

Basically a section of the level you need to stay in for time, KO-ing people from there nets you more points, etc and so forth.

Nall Nov 30, 2007 04:54 PM

The Temple was always fun, glad they decided to bring that back. I can't tell if the graphics have been updated for it or not, but a floating castle is still going to look pretty cool no matter how you slice it. More large levels overall would be nice, too.

Here's hoping for more Melee or super blocky and pixelated N64 levels.

Yes. Yes it is. And you wanna know why? BECAUSE IT'S THE FUCKING INTERNET.
