For some reason I thought we'd travelled out into the woods. :(

Does Bob actually have any kind of sense for when magic is being performed and if so, is it just in the form of a passive perception check or do I have to specify he's looking out for these things?

Sarag Jan 10, 2009 01:36 PM

t deni: wake up and do your religion thing because I don't know what the religion skill does even though I have it. :(

The unmovable stubborn Jan 10, 2009 05:35 PM

Well, the Religion skill would allow you, plausibly, to determine whether or not the "Paladin" is in fact a holy man.

Arcana, Dungeoneering, History, Nature and Religion skill knowledge can all be used like this, just indicate what you're trying to determine and call for a check.

Yeah, you can always Detect Magic since you've got Arcana Training but it does call for a specific check.

Bradylama Jan 10, 2009 06:04 PM

Hey all you clever dudes pretending to sleep are going to start combat prone if it breaks out.

Cool. Is that a pass or fail thing or does it work in degrees? I mean, would it be like Bob either knows there's magic afoot or he doesn't realise it or is it more that he either misses it completely, realises that something is going on or knows what spell is in effect, depending on the roll?

Oh, and do you get an accuracy bonus shooting from prone like in all the best fps games?

Yeah, it's more of an incremental thing. There's no guarantee that you'll find anything, but you'll discover more the higher you roll.

To the contrary, in fact. :(

You are harder to hit with ranged attacks, if it's any consolation.

Bradylama Jan 10, 2009 06:40 PM

Yeah it's hard to shoot bows from prone. Crossbows maybe but this isn't GURPS, boy.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jan 10, 2009 07:01 PM

Spells though maybe?

Right, I've passed the word around but I don't think we want to just start attacking people. It could really be Broden with someone else or it could be more elves or something. I know killing things is our forte but some thinking might be in order here. The fact that Bob can't actually understand anything anyone says and Arg tends not to be much of a conversationalist doesn't work in our favour though...

No. Hard Pass. Jan 11, 2009 02:03 AM

Well, we're surrounded, they want the magic sword, and we have no dailies and few healing surges.

Ain't this a pickle. You know Gabe is always willing to put his life on the line, but this does look like an ugly situation.

Bradylama Jan 11, 2009 02:21 AM

Oh so Kord's chosen goes off half-cocked against dudes that were probably the good guys and now some sinister Doppelganger wants the sword and you shit your pantaloons.

Now we do it my way.

Sarag Jan 11, 2009 02:29 AM

I'm in good shape so I don't give a shit what you niggers decide to do. I saved (most) of my shit cuz I knew Pang wouldn't be so merciful.

Bradylama Jan 11, 2009 02:31 AM

We've got more healing surges than we'd spend anyways. If we gang up on Elvira we can probably scare off the dwarf and then handle the other rejects.

Sarag Jan 11, 2009 02:34 AM

If we do this right we could recreate the poor Orc Leader episode.

Bradylama Jan 11, 2009 02:45 AM

She's got a high AC too, so use your most accurate attacks even when you have combat advantage (and even if she's prone). kwnwzrd your greataxe has high crit so if she gets knocked prone you're gonna be able to deliver one massive coup de grace.

The unmovable stubborn Jan 11, 2009 02:57 AM

Coup de grace only applies to helpless enemies, not those who are merely prone. :3333:

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jan 11, 2009 09:03 AM

I've tried to slow down the Bugbear, I can always use Ray of Enfeeblement to weaken it a bit if needs be too. Apart from that, I'm not sure what use Bob will be in this fight apart from sniping small chunks of health off people.

How are we all off for action points now?

Slowing the bugbear doesn't really help us at all.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jan 11, 2009 12:03 PM

It helps me stay out of it's reach...

Are you referring to the 'to hit' statistics on weapons/attacks in the wiki?

Also, where are you getting her statistics? The only thing I can find is some 3e wiki bullshit.

Bradylama Jan 11, 2009 02:27 PM

Monster's Manual.

Well, no dailies. No AP. 2 healing surges. And that dopple's gonna stand up before I can get to her. I'm prolly fucked.

Ah well. Screw it. I'm in.

SEMPER FIDELIS TYRANNOSAURUS!

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jan 11, 2009 05:09 PM

Are we not assuming that since the spells were coming from where the dwarf was hiding, he's probably a mage and as such, likely to drop dead as soon as Gabe looks at him, let alone swings an axe at his head. Why don't Arg, Brigid and Mots lay into the Doppelganger, Gabe slaughters the dwarf and Bob vaguely tries to be helpful. I'll get to shooting at the doppelganger once she stands up again but Pang said I'd be less likely to hit a prone target with ranged attacks.

Bradylama Jan 11, 2009 06:39 PM

Gabe won't be able to take out that dwarf in less than 4 turns even if he hit him every time.

No. Hard Pass. Jan 11, 2009 06:47 PM

Besides which, if we fuck up the doppleganger, I've already intimidated that dwarf. I think he'll be quite happy to escape with his beard intact.

P.S.

In typical form, Bob looks around the battle for somebody who looks vulnerable to cold and selects the hulking fur-covered monster.
one day, one day, we could get through a battle without making Pang facepalm. That day is not today.

oh and Pang, does Melora's Tide cost a healing surge?

What happens if I use Healing Touch or some other surge-spendy skill on someone who has no more surges?
