I'm still holding out for one more third-party character, though. But yeah, it's completely possible that the last third-party character will end up being hidden. I'm not really sure how it worked for the last two games.. Did anyone know about thie hidden characters before players first started unlocking them?

Chaotic Nov 23, 2007 03:06 PM

Besides unlocking Jigglypuff and Luigi in Melee... Nope.

Dalkaen Nov 23, 2007 04:29 PM

Well, it's only reasonable to assume that if they don't announce a particular character, there's a chance they'll be returning anyway, as a hidden character. I'm personally hoping that's how Sheik returns...

Dark Nation Nov 23, 2007 05:36 PM

Actually, I could see the update now for announcing how hidden characters
will be revealed:

"[GAME MODE] - A CHALLENGER APPEARS!

<Image>
"Eh? Is this another new character?

Not exactly. At various points during Smash, you will
come across an opportunity to fight against a hidden opponent,
who will join your ranks should you be able to defeat them!
Some of them are new and some of them are returning veterans.

For this update, we have decided to unveil Luigi's return to Brawl!

<image>
Luigi's silhouette!

<image>
And here he is on the Battlefield Stage, pitted against his brother, Mario!

<image>
I-Its an Epic Duel.

So, be on the lookout for Challengers when they appear, or you might not be able
to get all of the combatants! I wonder who else will appear?"

Nall Nov 24, 2007 12:01 PM

^ I could see how that would work. They have been getting pretty specific with the game features lately. An explanation on how hidden characters work might be coming for sure.

Also, since we didn't get an update today, I'm going to do one of my own! 'Cause I know how much everyone looks forward to these things. There were a few Pokemon revealed a while back that we never saw on the main Smash page:

Kyogre and Torchic were seen in a game-play video during Nintendo's press conference event on October 10th. Kyogre flies in and blasts everyone with water, while Torchic just stands there and looks cute until it spontaneously combusts with all the fire energy the tiny bird can muster. Snorlax was apparently also sighted.

Here's Entei from an snapshot someone took from E for All earlier this month. His attack seems almost identical to the one he used in Melee. Resetti, true to form, shows no concern whatsoever about the giant fire dog about to blow the arena to bits.

Haha, that's spot-on. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an update like that.

A somewhat useful update. Good to some smash users, I suppose.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._071126c-l.jpg

It's all about how you can configure your controls to your preference when you enter your name. So if you want to have some really un-conventional way of jumping using the B-trigger and the 2 button, so be it.

Another great addition is profile and controller configuration transferable via Wiimote. So whenever you smash somewhere else, you always have your profile name and your control scheme with you.

Chaotic Nov 27, 2007 02:30 AM

I guess no one gives a damn about controls...

Anyway...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._071127b-l.jpg

Widescreen support and Donkey Kong music.

Not much else to say.

Dalkaen Nov 27, 2007 02:33 AM

This is going to be a boring week.

Infernal Monkey Nov 27, 2007 02:35 AM

YES. DK song has his GURNANT GURNANT GURNANT smiling sound effect in it, best song in the game confirmed!

trackjacket Nov 27, 2007 02:44 AM

This is actually an incredible update. The Donkey Kong track was arranged by Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka himself. He hasn't worked on a single track in over a decade for Nintendo, and is currently the president of Creatures Inc. (formerly, Ape, Inc. a company jointly owned by Nintendo and HAL Labs). Simply amazing that he's come back to do this track for Brawl.

Chaotic Nov 27, 2007 03:20 AM

For the music junkies, I suppose this is good news. I never keep track of that kind of stuff, but the track itself sounds awesome.

OMG that track seriously reeks of awesome! Do you think they'll have a traditional donkey kong themed stage?

He did some musical work on Pokemon Channel, actually.

Krelian Nov 27, 2007 09:13 AM

Oh man, borked widescreen? Surely Sakurai is fakeposting. :gonk:

wvlfpvp Nov 27, 2007 09:16 AM

THe best line on the controls update:

SIGH. This week's updates are really pushing the boundaries. What's going to come up tomorrow?

"In this game, your cursor is a hand. L-look! It GRABBED the P1 icon! Oh my!"

Monkey King Nov 27, 2007 11:50 AM

I know they've got to stretch things out until February, but damn. Couldn't they just throw together some gameplay teaser movies or something?

Chaotic Nov 27, 2007 12:26 PM

Or characters for that matter.

Really? The GameCube game? That's pretty neat.

That DK remix was prety damn fantastic. Takes the edge off of that sub par Meta Knight theme.

Totally unrelated, but mad props on that Av/sig, Infernal. Easily one of the most entertaining games ever made.
