Hmm... I wonder if it's a Wondercard situation.

Chaotic May 29, 2008 01:54 PM

It's probably exactly the same as the Manaphy Event.

But the thing about this event is that you get the item that is required to get Darkrai.

Sousuke May 29, 2008 02:01 PM

Damn, United States. Why are there NEVER any events in Canada? D:

Anyway, looks like I'm going with the original plan again. I'll be mailing my cart out to a friend for the weekend. XD

^-^ May 29, 2008 03:04 PM

if it is like manaphy, then I'll have to obtain the wondercard info too. Don't mail the cart out Sousuke. I'll have one for you this weekend.

Sousuke May 29, 2008 05:48 PM

I thought you could only get one?

^-^ May 29, 2008 06:55 PM

I wont be keeping mine.

Sacred X May 29, 2008 07:10 PM

So, I'm kinda regretting evolving my Pikachu into Raichu when I learned Pikachu can have a Light Ball, which doubles its Special Attack. Is that not insane? Here's a question. Does it double SP ATK even if the SP ATK is already at its max (255)?

EDIT: And another question. Let's say Articuno is holding Macho Brace (item which doubles EVs gained) and Raichu is holding EXP Share and I kill a Haunter, which gives 2 SP ATK EVs. Because of Macho Brace, Haunter gets 4 EVs. How about Raichu? Does it also gained 4 EVs or just 2?

^-^ May 29, 2008 07:58 PM

Nevermind, I'm actually not sure at all.

About the Light Ball question. I'm pretty sure it'll double, since it is a in-battle effect from the hold item.

And the second question. I believe the exp share will only pass on the default amount. That means no bonuses from the fighting pokemon's hold item.

Actually. According to the EV training guide, it does pass on EVs. That's what I use them for =o.

A: The answer is no. Both pokemon will get the same amount of EVs. The full
amount. The end. Wait, one more thing. Bonuses from POKERUS and the items
won't be passed on. The pokemon will be getting the normal amount it would.
Unless of course, IT has POKERUS. But it still can't hold the item, because it
is holding the Exp. Share.

Thanks a lot. Sheesh, I feel like such a noob with all of my questions.

Anyway, I've encountered a problem. My Vaporeon is level 70, I EV trained it in SP ATK, and it gains +3 SP ATK per level. Problem: It's at 220 SP ATK now. Meaning, it will hit the max SP ATK before Level 100. Luckily this is only FireRed and not Platinum, nor is Vaporeon going to be in my main Platinum team.
My original solution to this was: "No problem. When I get Platinum, I just won't EV train until Level 90 or so.
About 5 seconds later I knew what was wrong in what I said. How am I going to get to level 90ish without gaining EVs? Unless I Rare Candy hack, no can do. Are there any sites out there that give a general idea what a Pokemon's stats will be at Level 100 with no EVs? I used to have a Guidebook for Gold/Silver I believe that had such a thing, though I lost it, and I'm unsure if they've changed any of the formula's in stats for a Pokemon since Gold. I know stats were changed from R/B -> Y -> G/S. So yeah, just wondering if one exists online so I can be sure how many EVs I should put into what.

Slow down there. 255 isn't the absolute maximum Sp. Atk. for any Pokemon, 999 is (even though it's impossible to reach via legal means). As for good websites with statistics on each Pokemon, Serebii.net and Marriland.com are decent places to start.

Kairyu May 29, 2008 08:28 PM

Hold on, I'm a little confused by what you're saying in regards to your special attack stat. Are you speaking in EVs or actual stat points the pokemon displays in its profile?

I ask because you're talking about how you're gaining 3 Special Attack EVs per level and you'll hit the EV ceiling before reaching level 100. Normally, I'd say that's a good thing =p. If you're worried about gaining too much experience then I might suggest fighting low level pokemon that still give you the EVs you want.

Now, if you're trying to gain experience without gaining EVs the only other way to do that is to use EV reducing berries while fighting extremely high level pokemon. Though it would be easier to do that with a X amount of Rare Candies.

Gosh, I forgot the cap was 999. I wonder where I got 255 from... I probably mixed up EVs with stats for some reason.

EDIT: I kinda got EVs and stats mixed up, disregard my last post I guess. I thought the cap of the points itself was also 255 for some odd reason. ._.;;

  • Thunderbolt / Volt Tackle
  • Brick Break
  • Grass Knot / Hidden Power Ice
  • Substitute
EV: 152 Atk / 104 SpA / 252 Spe
IV: HP: 18, Att: 19, Def: 18, SpA: 19, SpD: 19, Spe: 19 (for Hidden Power: Ice)
Nature: Hasty/Naive
Item: Lightball (of course)
That's pretty much what you want for a mixed sweeper for Pikachu.

Sousuke May 29, 2008 09:07 PM

As far as I know, the effect of EVs is similar to that of IVs. The effect [ie: the amount added to each stat] is proportional to your level, just like IVs are.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Josiah May 29, 2008 10:19 PM

So, is there anything I need to do for this Darkrai event prior to heading to TRU? I already checked ahead with the TRU I'm going to, I figured all I have to do is just download the data at the New Game/Continue screen when I get there and the rest is all in-game....right?

Chaotic May 29, 2008 10:20 PM

Make sure you have Mystery Gift available on your card. Go to your local TRU, download the card, go to any PokeMart, get the item, and catch Darkrai.

Josiah May 29, 2008 10:38 PM

Gotcha, Mystery Gift's available now. Looking forward to Saturday! And who knows, maybe I can find some people to battle, too. Though I get the feeling that I do find some person (or people) they'll mop the floor with me because, unlike our current tournament, they'll probably have every legendary and their mom to fight me. Literally on the 'mom' part with some, lol.

^-^ May 29, 2008 11:03 PM

Legendaries are easibly beaten.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 30, 2008 12:45 AM

If they're properly trained and used, only other legendaries have any real shot at beating them.

As much as I'd like that Darkrai, I really don't think I lack the amount of shame needed to go into public and geek out to that degree.

Chaotic May 30, 2008 01:06 AM

That's why I said, Generic, walk in, stand near the entrance, take the DS out, get the item, make your way towards exit, and leave without barely doing anything in the store.

Josiah May 30, 2008 01:48 AM

Who knows, you might not even have to go through the doors, just stand right outside them.

Yeah, good thing they won't make you have to actually buy something Pokemon-related to do this. (Besides having already bought the game itself, of course.)

Sousuke May 30, 2008 06:44 AM

I just enabled Mystery Gift on my card, and I see that you can 'Receive Gifts' through WiFi. Does that mean I'll be able to grab the Darkrai item through WiFi this weekend?

^-^ May 30, 2008 08:43 AM

No. You can't grab it through WiFi like that.

Also Generic, if you think there's shame involved in getting a promotional item for the game, why are you even playing?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 30, 2008 09:01 AM

Because I play in the privacy of my own home? I couldn't care less if a grown man plays pokemon, but public perception is definitely that the games are geared towards children, and that if you see an adult playing them, there's something distinctly creepy and/or pathetic.

I don't like it, but I didn't come up with it.
