How do you figure? From what I've seen it looks nothing less than a blast.

HOLD IT!

But it's not being done by Sonic Team, non sonic team sonic games tend to be awesome. Sonic Rush, the latter half of the Sonic Advance games, Sonic R.

Okay, forget "team". Pretend I just said "Sonic". I have no faith in Sonic games anymore.

Sin Ansem Feb 3, 2007 09:42 AM

3-D Sonic has sucked since SA2. Yes.

But I like the part where we ignore their 2-D offerings, which are far and away are at least "decent".

I don't really care enough to get depressed over Sonic Team's idiocy--their 2-D games are good and Sonic's not the only mascot who has problems in 3-D but still has good 2-D (looks at Megaman and Castlevania).

If it's anything depressing about Sonic, it's the fans. They're fucking terrible. On the one hand we have the 3-D fanboys who buy the crap and call it good. Then we have the GOD FUCKING AWFUL 2-D fanboys who blame the fall of the Dreamcast on the Sonic Adventures and are entirely convinced that Sonic died in 1994. Don't even get me started on the constant wars and all the political, completely childish and exaggerated hate of Shadow.

See, I can be bitter too! :(

Krelian Feb 3, 2007 11:41 AM

The way I see it, Secret Rings is a compromise between old and new. From the looks of things the "save the planet and the princess and meet awesome NPCs and HEY HAVE AN HOUR OF CGI" stuff is at a minimum and gameplay takes precedence. However, there are always going to be people who hate it because it's still the new Sonic design and it's in 3D, and the other group who won't buy it because Shadow isn't in it. :(

He's in Multi-player. As well as some others.

Silver, Cream and Blaze...

Oh dear, what happened to the 50 or so other characters?

SuperSonic Feb 4, 2007 11:54 AM

Wow...that's it in multiplayer? Just 8 characters? I figured they would've stuck Rouge in there too and maybe Eggman.

Rush was pretty awesome, but Advance 3 is one that I just couldn't get into. Sonic R was fun, although it takes me about an hour or so to unlock everything and beat the game completely, I still have fun with it. Music was pretty amazing too.

Conan-the-3rd Feb 4, 2007 04:33 PM

I thought it was agreed that Advance 3 and 2 were very good games.

SuperSonic Feb 4, 2007 05:50 PM

The first Advance was very fun. The second one was alright until I got to the part where I had to find the Chaos Emeralds to unlock the true ending. Unlike the first advance where all you had to do was find a spring, this one required you to find 7 rings in an area and complete the special stage. That task was just a pain in the ass for me. I'll go back and finish Advance 3 someday but the levels just weren't as great as the previous Advance games. I think what stopped me from beating it entirely was the fact that I didn't know how to go about collecting the emeralds. Now I just read that to get to a special stage you have to find a special spring. If that's the case, then hell yeah I'll go back and finish Advance 3. Can someone confirm this?

Sin Ansem Feb 4, 2007 09:33 PM

You didn't like the levels of Advance 3?

Shame. I thought the level themes and design were the best of the bunch. Chaos Angel and Ocean Base especially so.

In Sonic Advance 3, getting the special stages is a bit more long winded--you need to find ten(10) Chao in each Zone (go into the garden to see the spread for each level). Once you collect each one you don't need to do it again. Ever. (Unless you reset all data). Once you have all of them, go through the stage and collect the key (easy to find, often right in the middle of the path) and complete the stage without dying. Find the spring in the zone entryway and BAM, special stage access. If you phail, simply collect another key.

Advance 2 felt worse than 1 and 3 because the levels felt all alike--the only difference was palette design! And the bosses were irritating the first time but then became too easy for subsequent plays.

SuperSonic Feb 4, 2007 11:52 PM

Damn...I remember there was a reason for the 10 chao and that was it. :( Well, sometime I'll give the game another chance because I'd like to complete it, just like I might give Riders another chance so I can complete it. Really, I'm being serious. Maybe if I beat Advance 3 I can have a better understanding as to why it is liked.

By the way, I didn't like what they did in Zone 2 where they used the Green Hill Zone theme. When you're on the map it isn't that bad, but when I started playing the actual zones it just didn't sound right. The one from Sonic Battle sounds better.

incorrect. Mortal Kombat is this way too, but the people behind the games finaly woke up and gave us a couple of good games with an original fighting engine.

as for the sonic game itself, meh. I think Sonic died after Sonic Adventure 2.

I'm tired of people saying that Sonic is dead. Sonic is not dead! After Adventure 2 he went through a little relapse. Heroes was decent, but the next two 3D games Shadow and Riders just weren't that great to me. I'd talk about the awesome Sonic Next-gen but I'd rather not start another battle. Btw Sparkster, although I quoted you this post isn't directed all at you. At least you like the Adventure series whereas others are like "Sonic 3D? Ewwwwwww! Back to my Genesis games!"

As far as his 2D adventures go, the Advance series were pretty good. Would you guys consider Rush for the DS 2D or 2.5D? Either way, Rush was a pretty good addition to the series.

For those who are thinking about getting a PSP in the near future, be sure to check out Rivals. I've only beaten Sonic's story so far but it's been a challenge. So far it's been good.

So we'll be seeing this new game for the Wii in about 2 weeks. After that, it'll be a while before we get any new 3D Sonics, probably a year or two. :(

vuigun Feb 7, 2007 11:28 PM

There's no battle to be had. Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Next-Gen were horrible quality games. There's no fight to be had there.

I want Sonic and the Secret Rings to flop just so I can see the reactions of all those calling this game the "last chance for sonic". So when a new Sonic game with new gameplay comes along and has a good trailer, I want to see if those same people come back with "okay THIS is the last chance, it really is".

Oh lord, don't acknowledge SuperSonic. He's nothing but a diehard fanboy in denial and will argue everyone's doubts to the death. Just ignore him and leave him on his perpetually sinking ship.

I don't know, people initially said Sonic 360 looked fun. Time passed and everyone ended up in tears over it. Considering that the game releases in about two weeks, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. There isn't a whole lot to pick apart here, other than I don't know how they'll manage to stretch the game to over 15 hours from the gameplay I've seen. They haven't shown us very much of what they've done...

SuperSonic Feb 8, 2007 11:40 AM

If I were a diehard fanboy then I would like EVERY Sonic game that has come out. That is not the case, as I've stated before. However, I've gotta agree that we can't really conclude anything until the game comes out. I'm worried about the story and the gameplay. I've seen how the gameplay works but I want to experience it for myself before I make any conclusions.

Just disliking one or two games in a series of 30 doesn't make you any less a fanboy with his fingers in his ears.

Also, it seems that more characters are able to be unlocked, it's true I read it on the internet.

Dubble Feb 9, 2007 04:05 AM

I think the article is saying that the unlocking of various characters only factors into party mode and not the main game, which would make sense if you think about its context and all.

Quoted for truth, plus you are kinda asking for that stereotype comparison with your name alone SuperSonic :eagletear: I was personally hoping segas next 3D Sonic game would be time travel, but at least made an attempt at trying to make 3D versions of some of the classic game locations and scenarios (getting dumped into a underwater Labyrinth, racing metal sonic, getting past knuckles various traps to name only a couple of things) not this 'hardcore' worntorn towns with the occasional temple or forest bollocks, come to think of it secret rings could be compared to the temples from S&K but that's more likely wishful thinking. The only reason they haven't tried it I think I said before though, they're slowing making the plot a bigger mess every new game they release

Yes, I know.

Lots o' new videos at International Gas Network. If you can't be arsed with their endless adverts for public toilet scented deodorant for men or whatever, I've uploaded them to YouTube. Because there's nothing better than highly compressed videos on the internet!

Most of the "fans" say that Advance 2 was too shallow and hold right oriented.

I loved the Advance series though.

Dubble Feb 10, 2007 03:23 PM

Am I the only one who liked the running bosses in Advance 2? I thought they introduced a pretty good challenge factor not seen in Sonic games before boss-wise and found myself impressed by them.

Of course some people hated them just because of said challenge, so.... **shrugs**
