Mine is the Metal Gear Solid codec sound. Distinctive enough to know its my phone that's ringing, but not so much that it can't pass for just another ringtone noise.
|
Every nerd has that, though.
Go into any game store and have that ring go off and watch how many people check their shit. Not saying it's not a good one or anything, but I find that I bump into it too much. |
Hmm, perhaps a change is needed then. Guess I'll mingle through my ringtone folder and find something.
|
My current ringtone is 'Frolic' by Luciano Michelini, probably better known to most as the theme song to Curb Your Enthusiasm. I might need to change that though since I always get someone trying to do a Larry David impression every time it goes off.

It works quite well for being an injoke that most other people won't get though, and it's hard to find something else that feels that appropriate as a ringtone. I just use Magical Sound Shower, because I'm a tool. |

I always found polyphonic ringtones to be pretty embarrassing (especially in public...), so I opted for something more simplistic: "Select Mode" from DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS.

Ring tone. Text message. Daravon. This black guy I know from work. Although for a while I was pretty vanilla about it and used H.T. from Trigun and Star of Muse as my Ring and Message tones, respectively. Pretty sure I used Cheetah Men for a while too. |
My iPhone was the first time I've ever bothered to set a custom ringtone (Vamo' Alla Flamenco). Since my phone is perpetually on vibrate, however, I'll never hear it.
|
I still have UH UH UH UH UH UH UH as a ringtone - it makes me picking up the phone very very very fast. I think that's in the interest of the caller.
|
I've had the Metal Gear codec ring since forever.
Text messages are the alert/spotted/siren sound effect from MG. New voicemail/missed call is the game over tune. For a while, for shits and giggles, I had one with Colonel going "Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAKE" Definitely turned some heads ='D I was once in a class and had poor reception. I completely missed a phonecall, and it skipped right to voicemail. My reception hiccuped and spotted the missed call. My prof just started role call (small class, but attendance was mandatory). He said "so, anyone not here?" Then my phone promptly started screaming for Snake :( Prof thought it was pretty hilarious though. God damn am I a Metal Gear nerd :( Quote:

My ringtone is the sound of a phone ringing.
My text tone, however, is :gonggong:, which gives even the most mundane of conversations a ripped-from-the-headlines kind of edginess I'd be remiss to be without. |
I had The Final Countdown a while back. It was possibly the best thing ever when I was in a store, heard the ringtone, and then realized it was someone else's phone.
|
I've got the instrumental leadout of Dire Straits' Sultans of Swing as mine. I've been sticking with classic rock for as long as I've had a phone. Going back it's been Jessica and Sweet Child 'O Mine.
|
My ringtone is the Bill Nye theme song. Except it stops at the "BILL BILL BILL BILL" part and loops that for a solid 3 minutes.
|
Depending on who calls:
- Some jazzy scales - Super Mario Theme - Star Wars Imperial March - Caller Ring Tone from Metal Gear Solid - Victory theme from FF7 |
Mine's the MGS incoming codec sound... thing.
|
I've always had stuff that makes people think I'm a weirdo. I remember having one of the very first phones where you could record a sound for your ringtone, and I had a Ford A horn for a while.
It's gotten depressingly more hard having people cringe, as having anything weird on your phones these days are the norm. So now I mostly have music that the general public hate. Right now I dig bagpipes. |
You're that guy.

I've never bothered figuring out how to correctly convert a song into a ringtone since my phone is really picky about what works, so I just have it set to the one preset ringtone that rings like an actual phone. I used one of the dumb little songs (I think it was called "Sword Dance") on my previous phone, but that didn't work out too well. I used it so infrequently that when it did ring I'd just look around wondering where the strange music was coming from until someone would point out that it was my pocket.

My ringtone right now is "Kryptonite" and that's probably gonna be what I'm stuck with till I upgrade to a better phone.

MGS2 codec sound.

I have a BlackBerry but ever since almost every teacher on campus and her mother has one as well, I used to confuse the default sounds on everyone's phone for my phone. This routinely made me check my phone and trying to look important whenever the phones went off during staff meetings and junk only to remember that I have no friends. :(
In order to be able to tell my phone apart, I loaded a bunch of soundsets on my phone for everything except for the phone's incoming call ringtone since that changes to whatever song in my library sounds catchy that week. All my past ringtones are in here and their matching wallpapers here. (For the record, my current one is the cover of Boston's self-titled album with the ringtone being the guitar intro to Long Time.)
