Uh, I accessed mine under the game demos section. But maybe different systems reacted differently? Or maybe older dashboard?
|
Are you talking about accessing the demo or a thumb drive through the demo section? Because the demo wouldn't show up while it was on my thumb drive. Burning it to a CD worked though.
|
I was referring to accessing the demo.... But now I realise you meant the thumb drive. Sorry, my mistake.
|
Yea, I tried the memory stick, doesn't work. The 360 won't recognize the portable as memory.

Instructions to burn and play
You don't have to have a modded console to play this game, it'll work on any. Just download the files and unrar everything as normal. You should be left with a folder called "0000000000000000". Create a new folder called "content" and stick the folder called "0000000000000000" inside it. Now simply use a program such as Nero to make a data cd and burn the folder called "content" you just made onto a blank CD (any type should do). Now just place the CD or dvd into your 360 and navigate to your games library. In the Demos section you should now see Resident Evil 5 listed (it'll be in Japanese writing). Select it and the demo will boot . |
Playing the demo pretty much seals this as a Day 1 purchase, to me at least. The co-op really is the shining star of this game, though Capcom did a really good job of making the partner AI workable if multiplayer isn't an option (which is good since they cut off American Live Accounts from playing the demo). I do wish the cross pad inventory controls worked a bit better, specifically because I'd like there to be room for mapping diagonals like Fallout 3. Even though diagonals are shit on the 360 controller, it beats going into the menu. At least in Fallout 3.
I tried checking up on a rumor that the Resident Evil 5 demo was to be made available to the North American marketplace via purchasing the new Bionic Commando (not Rearmed, they're talking about Bionic Commando: Dreadlocks Edition) but the site that reported that news wasn't official and it took down the news story as quickly as it went up. I'm not sure why you'd want to keep a demo like this from the public by basically slapping a 60 dollar price tag on it and given how awesome it is, but I suppose times are tough and we all need to use our DVD Burners anyway. |
Maybe I was just doing something wrong, but I ran out of Ammo too quickly and the controls to use the knife were WAY too complicated. However in general presentation it looked good, lighting effects especially, and the controls otherwise were okay... I just wish I didn't have to hold down like 4 different buttons just to swing the knife.

The demo awesome. There are so many things you could do that I didn't discover till, like, my 10th time through. Things like transformers that you can shoot down to stun enemies, some flamable canisters in the first area that you could use, and even a SMG that you can find in the first part of the demo. There are also even more melee options than just the straight, uppercut, and hook. Like with Chris you can choke/neck grab the guy from behind, not sure how you actually pull it off as it was really a fluke discovery when I was split-screening with my brother.
I really hope they change the coop split-screen, I was expecting it to be something like Gears2, but what they gave us is really terrible IMO. It's so hard to make out anything in such a small screen (using a 37", maybe time to shop for a 70"). One thing I noticed when I was cooping online with Kairi Li was that we couldn't switch weapons, something you could when you're playing offline with AI or split-screen. Kinda odd, hopefully it's only a restriction that was placed on the demo. The best control type I found was Type C (RE4 with strafing). The strafing made it easier to navigate when walking, and because you're forced into a static position when aiming it kind of renders the Type D (shooter style) control useless. Took a while to get used to the RE4 style of controls again, but once it all came back to me there really was no better option for the game (for me anyway). Plus shoot/swipe(with knife) and melee being the same button made it much easier to combo the two. The AI for Sheva was pretty good, especially if you've set her up to be a healer. Though I do wish she'd use the ammo more sparingly at times, as there are instances where the knife works perfectly fine. It's also neat how you can set her AI to Attack or Cover. Attack where's she's much more aggresive in attacking and taking point. Cover, basically watching your back and healing. Waiting to try out the PS3 version, before I really commit to one version. Though right now I'm leaning towards the 360 version, as I'm most likely going to get more co-op time there (eg. more friends on the 360 are likely to get this). Anyone know what's being offered for the collector's edition? I'm assuming there is one, since it is RE. BTW, if you push and hold the R button and then presh the L button Chris/Sheva will do a taunt (push down on the sticks). Quote:

I'll give it another go and see if my results this time fare better.

Anyway, does anybody know when the demo should be available to us filthy Americans or what? |
I was pointing out that even if what the picture hints at is true that doesn't necessarily mean much, since this is a fairly flexible series in terms of time line and science.
Edit: OK, so maybe I was being a bit of a jerk, but the whole G-Virus comment was bloody stupid. |
You railed on the poor guy for being attached to a character then said he was having a fanboy tantrum. Come on. That was being a jerk, even if you were right.
|
Behold my hypocrisy in thumb form. THOU MUST.
I've tried looking for news on the RE5 demo, but so far the only official word from Capcom is that "It is coming to North America we just won't say when. By the way, watch us shoot down a news story creating a rumor that we may say you need to get the new Bionic Commando in order to get the demo." |

(in case it is still considered a spoiler) |
I like how you spoilered it at first and then went ahead and posted that JILL DIES right out in the open there, kid.
|
Jill Valentine dies in Resident Evil V, eh?
Well, it's appalling that I had to find out this way. |
Pretty sure it's just a marketing ploy to generate interest and conversation. It appears as an ad in game magazines if I recall, so I highly doubt it's a huge spoiler.
|
Its not a huge spoiler. If you go to the official Japanese website, her gravestone is the frigging FRONTPAGE BANNER.
CAPCOM Biohazard 5 That banner would actually make a nice signature.... |
