Uh, I accessed mine under the game demos section. But maybe different systems reacted differently? Or maybe older dashboard?

WolfDemon Dec 7, 2008 02:15 AM

Are you talking about accessing the demo or a thumb drive through the demo section? Because the demo wouldn't show up while it was on my thumb drive. Burning it to a CD worked though.

Kairi Li Dec 7, 2008 02:26 AM

I was referring to accessing the demo.... But now I realise you meant the thumb drive. Sorry, my mistake.

Hantei Dec 7, 2008 04:22 AM

Yea, I tried the memory stick, doesn't work. The 360 won't recognize the portable as memory.

RYU Dec 7, 2008 06:02 AM

Instructions to burn and play
You don't have to have a modded console to play this game, it'll work on any. Just download the files and unrar everything as normal. You should be left with a folder called "0000000000000000". Create a new folder called "content" and stick the folder called "0000000000000000" inside it. Now simply use a program such as Nero to make a data cd and burn the folder called "content" you just made onto a blank CD (any type should do). Now just place the CD or dvd into your 360 and navigate to your games library. In the Demos section you should now see Resident Evil 5 listed (it'll be in Japanese writing). Select it and the demo will boot .

Rotorblade Dec 10, 2008 12:27 PM

Playing the demo pretty much seals this as a Day 1 purchase, to me at least. The co-op really is the shining star of this game, though Capcom did a really good job of making the partner AI workable if multiplayer isn't an option (which is good since they cut off American Live Accounts from playing the demo). I do wish the cross pad inventory controls worked a bit better, specifically because I'd like there to be room for mapping diagonals like Fallout 3. Even though diagonals are shit on the 360 controller, it beats going into the menu. At least in Fallout 3.

I tried checking up on a rumor that the Resident Evil 5 demo was to be made available to the North American marketplace via purchasing the new Bionic Commando (not Rearmed, they're talking about Bionic Commando: Dreadlocks Edition) but the site that reported that news wasn't official and it took down the news story as quickly as it went up. I'm not sure why you'd want to keep a demo like this from the public by basically slapping a 60 dollar price tag on it and given how awesome it is, but I suppose times are tough and we all need to use our DVD Burners anyway.

Dark Nation Dec 10, 2008 04:42 PM

Maybe I was just doing something wrong, but I ran out of Ammo too quickly and the controls to use the knife were WAY too complicated. However in general presentation it looked good, lighting effects especially, and the controls otherwise were okay... I just wish I didn't have to hold down like 4 different buttons just to swing the knife.

Hantei Dec 11, 2008 12:17 AM

The demo awesome. There are so many things you could do that I didn't discover till, like, my 10th time through. Things like transformers that you can shoot down to stun enemies, some flamable canisters in the first area that you could use, and even a SMG that you can find in the first part of the demo. There are also even more melee options than just the straight, uppercut, and hook. Like with Chris you can choke/neck grab the guy from behind, not sure how you actually pull it off as it was really a fluke discovery when I was split-screening with my brother.

I really hope they change the coop split-screen, I was expecting it to be something like Gears2, but what they gave us is really terrible IMO. It's so hard to make out anything in such a small screen (using a 37", maybe time to shop for a 70").

One thing I noticed when I was cooping online with Kairi Li was that we couldn't switch weapons, something you could when you're playing offline with AI or split-screen. Kinda odd, hopefully it's only a restriction that was placed on the demo.

The best control type I found was Type C (RE4 with strafing). The strafing made it easier to navigate when walking, and because you're forced into a static position when aiming it kind of renders the Type D (shooter style) control useless. Took a while to get used to the RE4 style of controls again, but once it all came back to me there really was no better option for the game (for me anyway). Plus shoot/swipe(with knife) and melee being the same button made it much easier to combo the two.

The AI for Sheva was pretty good, especially if you've set her up to be a healer. Though I do wish she'd use the ammo more sparingly at times, as there are instances where the knife works perfectly fine. It's also neat how you can set her AI to Attack or Cover. Attack where's she's much more aggresive in attacking and taking point. Cover, basically watching your back and healing.

Waiting to try out the PS3 version, before I really commit to one version. Though right now I'm leaning towards the 360 version, as I'm most likely going to get more co-op time there (eg. more friends on the 360 are likely to get this).

Anyone know what's being offered for the collector's edition? I'm assuming there is one, since it is RE.

BTW, if you push and hold the R button and then presh the L button Chris/Sheva will do a taunt (push down on the sticks).

Haha, uhh, not sure what's so difficult about using a knife. All it takes is 2 buttons, and a stick to aim accordingly.

Dark Nation Dec 11, 2008 08:12 AM

I'll give it another go and see if my results this time fare better.

My husband and I just got a 52 inch LCD TV and it was alot better during split screen than our old 22 inch (which is going to our bedroom), its like each screen is somewhat close to our own 20 inch TV respectivly. But if you are used to a single 37 inch screen its probably gonna take some time to get used to. And the reason the screens are split that way its cause they don't wanna widen the screens, it would mean that split screen co op players have the advantage of a wider view. The view is just like normal one player RE5 game but smaller.

There is so far only a collector's edition announced for Japan, and naturally they get a bunch of awesome looking shit.

Japanese Resident Evil 5 Collectors edition revealed :: PlayStation Universe (PSU)

Available to pre-order exclusively through Capcom’s online store for the hefty price of JPY 12,800 (roughly USD 130), this horrific box of delights contains USB flash drive, an art book, a BSAA shoulder/wrist strap, as well as with a copy of the hotly anticipated survival horror sequel.
And goddamit I hope we get the real demo soon, cause the only way now to play the demo is to sign off from LIVE.

No f*ckin' way!!!

My heart stopped too (temporarily) O_o...Capcom you can't do that -.-

Spoiler:
Jill is like the coolest character in RE, it better be a joke, or some wicked play by Wesker, please Capcom don't kill Jill T_T.

And if you must do so, she should have a heroic death, if she dies in the tipical car accident (or vehicle accident, cause that's dumb enough) I will release the G-virus at Capcom HQ >=(

Way to over-react there skippy.

Spoiler:
The RE series has jumped about in its time line so often that even if what the picture suggests is true, it doesn't mean Jill can't appear in more games. Hell, it's a game that uses made-up science, it doesn't mean they couldn't find some way to resurrect her somehow. So basically, I really wouldn't call it something to throw a little tantrum over (really, a silly threat even in jest is just retarded, don't do it).

Jessykins Dec 15, 2008 04:39 AM

Spoiler:
Stop being a jerk, Ben.

Anyway, does anybody know when the demo should be available to us filthy Americans or what?

OmagnusPrime Dec 15, 2008 05:41 AM

I was pointing out that even if what the picture hints at is true that doesn't necessarily mean much, since this is a fairly flexible series in terms of time line and science.

Edit: OK, so maybe I was being a bit of a jerk, but the whole G-Virus comment was bloody stupid.

Jessykins Dec 15, 2008 05:50 AM

You railed on the poor guy for being attached to a character then said he was having a fanboy tantrum. Come on. That was being a jerk, even if you were right.

Rotorblade Dec 15, 2008 05:55 AM

Behold my hypocrisy in thumb form. THOU MUST.

I've tried looking for news on the RE5 demo, but so far the only official word from Capcom is that "It is coming to North America we just won't say when. By the way, watch us shoot down a news story creating a rumor that we may say you need to get the new Bionic Commando in order to get the demo."

Maybe overreacted, but, it's really how I feel, about it, I mean, why kill Jill (or hint at it) if she is the main character of RE, even if Capcom wanted Chris to be the main. And RE3 was the first RE I played, and you know that there is this strange attraction to the first character/series you play with. After watching the trailer (again) it's like some kind of evil plan by Wesker.

And yes, the G-virus was dumb (the "joke") , as dumb as I think of car accidents to kill main characters.

I'm hoping to see Jill in RE6 :)

(in case it is still considered a spoiler)

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 16, 2008 07:55 AM

I like how you spoilered it at first and then went ahead and posted that JILL DIES right out in the open there, kid.

The unmovable stubborn Dec 16, 2008 08:21 AM

Jill Valentine dies in Resident Evil V, eh?

Well, it's appalling that I had to find out this way.

Vampiro Dec 16, 2008 09:57 AM

Pretty sure it's just a marketing ploy to generate interest and conversation. It appears as an ad in game magazines if I recall, so I highly doubt it's a huge spoiler.

Kairi Li Dec 18, 2008 04:15 PM

Its not a huge spoiler. If you go to the official Japanese website, her gravestone is the frigging FRONTPAGE BANNER.

CAPCOM Biohazard 5

That banner would actually make a nice signature....
