The tracklist is a mixed bag for me. The tracks were definately selected to keep people interested in the series, however I find that GH3 is easier then 2. Sure there are songs that are perhaps harder then that of 2, but overall I find it easier.

Therefore it's hard for me to hate the game since it has more songs that I like to play then any other one, but the songs that I'll play over and over again are probably less then that of 2.

But hey, it's all a personal preforance.

P.S.
I can't play this PS2 version any more. I'm going to ruin the surprises for myself if I keep this up. (Completed set 4). But really, I can't stand the graphics anymore. The harsh colours and lighting are making my head hurt. The PS2 version took a HUGE hit when being transfered from the PS3/360 version. Like, I mean I think this one looks even worse then GH2.

Just got the Wii version at the midnight release. :D

Slayer X Oct 28, 2007 01:08 AM

Post a mini-review of what it's like to pkay it on the Wii. I know it has vibration to the beat and stuff, but how much it adds to the game I'm not sure. Best feature is probably the screw-up sound that comes from the indicidual guitars so you know what person is actually messing up.

But yeah let us know how it is. Though I still dought I'd trade the graphics and online functionality of the PS3 version for the poor visual beat-down they did to the PS2 and Wii versions. It's your job to convince me otherwise ok? ;)

Got it. Midnight launches are awesome (unless you're a Gamestop employee...I asked if they were getting overtime and the guy just gave me a dirty look). About 80 people showed up. The tourney was at 11 or so and I missed, but oh well.

Played the first set on medium to get a feel for the new surroundings and all the songs I don't know, before I delve into hard and beyond. First impressions:

-Wow, they weren't kidding when they said they made it much more lenient on the timing. I know it'll get harder, but it's really easier to mash out strings of notes than GHII. I got 100% on 3/4 of the songs I just played and half of that was messing around with the new timing...Everything connected. I can see someone starting on GHIII, then having problems with GHII. I haven't noticed HOPO's being greatly different, though just easier due to the higher window to hit a note. Medium speed seems closer to GHII's hard speed...It's nowhere near as slow.

-I can't say I'm a fan of the new interface. Just doesn't feel as tongue-in-cheek as the interface in GH2 and it's kind of boring, actually. Even the letters and everything just look over-polished. The band is just fucking ugly (Midori has that hideous American-Manga look and is more creepy than kawaii...And I wish I use 80's Judy instead of the one here...yeesh!) and the cast looks like it got beat with an ugly stick. Even if I weren't a Poison fan, I'd use Bret Michaels instead of the main singer. Be nice if I could do something with the drummer. And dammit...I miss the board shaking when I use star power. Even the messages are kind of lame (and three songs in, I've even had one repeat).

Feels kind of like jumping from Marvel vs Capcom 1 to Marvel vs Capcom 2...Evolved gameplay, but the aesthetics take a massive hit.

One plus...The new star power meter is nice. I just glance over and see how many lights I have. I like it.

But who plays GHIII for the aesthetics? It's awesome so far otherwise.

Yeah, I've been so busy looking everywhere other than my notes, complaining about Gamecube graphics blah blah blah. Finally a sound from the Wiimote is turning out well. I played online and got stomped, but the Star Power effects are very cool. I "dought" you care about this, as the graphics are what appear to be the be all.

No it doesn't. I've played Guitar Hero, Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero 2 on my PS2 and Guitar Hero 3 looks considerably better than the previous three games. Not that the graphics matter, anyway. I barely even notice them while playing.

On a side note, I need to know how to unlock the co-op encore songs, like, NOW. Heck, I don't want to miss out on a few of the most awesome songs in the game just because I don't have a friend ready to play with me.

Also, those boss battles suck and feel totally out of place. Seriously, except for the last one, they just aren't fun at all.

Golfdish from Hell Oct 28, 2007 10:28 AM

Yeah, boss battles are awful. The last one was the worst...No powerups until, like, 2 minutes into the song and I don't have enough to kill him. And the fucker always hits me with the lefty switch (aka: mash buttons and hope you hit notes). And what good does increasing the CPU's difficulty level do or giving them more notes do!? Gimme a whammy or broken string attack!

Other than that...Awesome, as expected.

Rock Oct 28, 2007 10:54 AM

At least the last boss battle song is halfway decent, unlike the other two. Seriously, the boss battles are so annoying that they're almost ruining the game for me. It's like the worst addition to the series they could've come up with. Just let me play the guitar, damnit!

nabhan Oct 28, 2007 11:02 AM

What the hell? FCP Remix is a bonus track?

Urge to buy rising. I loved Guitar Hero II, but time is such a constraint these days.

;_;

That's one reason I'm all over the GH games right now...They're so damn arcadey. No storyline, just pick up and play a few songs, then shut it off. Or switch over to the ballgame, then play a song during a commercial, then flick back. I don't have time to spend 3 hours clearing a level in a 40-50 hour game. I'm sure the big casual game craze right now is partly responsible for selling so many copies of GH...That's on top of it being as addictive as it is.

Wall Feces Oct 28, 2007 12:32 PM

Man, this game is kicking my ASS! Raining Blood and One on expert are destroying me! I've been mostly disappointed with the earlier songs, but overall it's a solid selection. Knights of Cydonia shocked me in it's greatness. I've always liked the song, but it's much more fun to play than I anticipated.

SuperDK Oct 28, 2007 01:12 PM

For those that are playing on Easy-Hard, how are the boss battles? I'm just wondering because there aren't many notes to hit so is it harder to actually win? Too lazy to check...

Final battle is almost complete luck. Get hit by a double note and lose. Lefty flip = lose. I beat it by getting a whammy and using it during a fast constant strum part, a little after getting the first powerup. That's the only way I've ever won. Seriously.

Golfdish from Hell Oct 28, 2007 01:56 PM

http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/vi...tml#post523114

Long story short: He's a bitch and you don't even get the song outside of a battle. Yuck.

Slash is god, but I hope I never have to face off against him again. Though surprisingly, I liked Morello's original a lot more than Slash's...

Wall Feces Oct 28, 2007 02:00 PM

So wait, you can't play the final battle song AT ALL outside of battle mode? EVER?? That's fucking retarded.

Also, why haven't I unlocked Suck My Kiss, Sabotage, and a few others I seem to be missing that aren't purchasable in the store? I just beat career on hard and I'm still missing those songs.

Co-op career unlocks those songs. Once you unlock those (they're encore songs btw) you can play them in quick-play. I thought I mentioned this earlier

Also, I agree that it sucks to not be able to play battle songs normally.

Yeah you might have, but it's possible I blocked it out of my memory because it's a pretty silly thing overall. I'm hoping the guys at Neversoft get a ton of flak over the non-playability of the battle songs and release them in an update soon.

DarthSavior Oct 28, 2007 08:24 PM

Since I'm a total noob at Guitar Hero, I started off on Easy. Managed to handle all the songs though career mode. Never got less than 85% on all the songs (except Raining Blood, that one kicked my ass). Lost to Slash once, but the final battle is kicking my ass. No matter what crap I pull off on him, he always rebounds. :(

I tried Slow Ride on Normal... wtf? I can barely keep up. ;_;

Lukage Oct 28, 2007 08:35 PM

Yeah, I'm new to it, too, but I was able to do the last song. Helps to be a fan of the original song, though. Its not quite like the other boss battles, though.

Slayer X Oct 28, 2007 10:06 PM

I know this is a bit off topic, but...

Does anyone else have the PS3 version? If so, let's ROCK!

Do other songs on Normal. For whatever reason Slow Ride has about 50 trillion aggravating chords and not much else, making it hard for anyone whose fingers aren't made of rubber.

At least, on Expert it does, I have to assume it's just as weird on Normal. =o

I have to hand it to Neversoft, for taking this franchise from RedOctane they've done a good job of staying true to what makes the series awesome. While one could argue that they didn't really change much, I think they were really in a bad position. If they changed it, they'd get yelled at for changing, and they decided to keep it the same, which is going to have people saying they should've changed it. I'd expect the important changes to come in Guitar Hero IV.

Also, the lack of Queen songs is still very disturbing. I would seriously pay 3000 MSP for a Queen Song Pack.

AlphaDeus Oct 28, 2007 11:56 PM

So I marathoned GH3 this whole weekend. As I mentioned earlier I picked it up Saturday Afternoon. I've been playing it almost non stop for two days. I beat Expert mode relatively easily (see previous post) and I went through all the bonus songs.

I beat all 4 career difficulties to earn their achievements and cash. A lot of the hidden guitars are wicked awesome :p For the boss battles on the lower difficulties, I recommend collecting 3 power-ups, and then activating them one by one when your opponent is playing their part. You can also double(Triple?) up effects to really devastate them.

You wrists aren't hurting from all that playing? A good 4 hours of non-stop playing for me got my left wrist hurting. :(

Well, I'm playing in hard since I've got into the series very recently, but the boss battles weren't that difficult, at least for now.

For Morello, as soon as I got an attack I threw it at him and got owned pretty fast.
For Slash I had to use a different strategy since he kicked my ass 2 times. I just collected 3 attacks and threw them at him in his final solo.

There are plenty of attacks that you can collect in hard. Even if you missed 4 or 5 of them, you have many more to grab later in the song. Maybe that's the difference from expert.

I haven't faced any other duel so far.

^-^ Oct 29, 2007 08:40 AM

I like GHIII. Although, I do agree that the sampling of some of the audio isn't that great, I've (so far) found a couple tracks that I need to grab online.

Still doesn't beat my own Guitar Hero though.

The_Griffin Oct 29, 2007 06:26 PM

Just picked it up for the Wii today.

I'm stuck on Barracuda (Medium). Fucking bridge and solo... I can all but nail them in practice if I slow down just a TAD, but it's like my brain shuts down and goes "lol, no wai."

THIS IS THE FIRST GUITAR HERO GAME I'VE OWNED SHUT UP :(
