I also like the FFXIclopedia, although being a wiki, it needs work in places. I've been using it to find beginner crafting recipes.

Where exactly do I need to go in this mission?

A link to a decent FAQ would be great, as well, I can't seem to find any good ones at GameFAQS.

That stuff Cid gives you, you have to ride one of those geysers in Dangruf Wadi. Dangruf is a zone off of South Gustaberg, which is outside of Bastok Markets and Bastok Mines. In South Gustaberg, you travel all the way north east. You'll find the zone there.

Now, a few problems that may arise upon trying to complete this mission:

-You may need to level up some in order to: A.) Solo those goblins, or B.) Be able to damage them even with a group.

-The zone Dangruf Wadi is like a maze. Many turns and narrow paths that can easily get confused with. "Did I come from there?" Get a map. To get this area's map, get one bone chip. You can buy this from the Auction House or kill some undead skeletons during night time (20:00-3:00 game time). Go to the northern bridge area of Bastok Markets. There you'll find an old man jigging around to some tune (whatever he's listening to or so happy about). TRADE him the bone chip and he'll hand you a map.

Finding the geysers in Dangruf isn't hard. But lots of people get confused as to how they work. It's rather more simple than it seems. You stand on the spout on the ground and wait. The geyser will eventually shoot water out elevating you to the next level of that area. Level as in height, not difficulty or whatever. (Although, the monsters get stronger nonetheless as you progress further into a dungeon. No matter what zone it is.)

Be sure to also remember that goblins are haters. They will pick on you if you're too low of a level, or come with no protection (Prisim Powders, Tonko: Ichi, Invisible spell.) So, keep in mind they can detect you by sight and all you need to do is run behind them.

Also keep in mind that many aggressive monsters detect by different senses: Blood, sight, sound. Blood sense is when you have below "white" numbered HP. Where your HP is in the yellow, ornage, or red colored state. This let's the undead monsters know you are weak and dying.

Hope that helps.

I just quit FFXI myself. I managed to get to level 70 summoner and it just wasn't fun anymore considering Summoners in FFXI are nothing like summoners in all the other final fantasy games. Anyway, I hope you all still have fun with it.

I left a month or two after the expansion and I took a puppetmaster to 40. Unless they update it soon, I really feel sorry for all the people that are leveling puppetmaster right now. As of now, you only get 3 new frames and past about 30...you don't get anything new at all from 30-75.

soapy Jul 10, 2006 01:54 AM

You don't like SMN? They're one of the most desired jobs once you hit 75. I am thinking of leveling it someday but lack of money right now.

Right now I am hating Chains of Promathia. Our static has been doing great up until 6-4 the airship battle. We only suffered a loss to Ouryu but we've been wiping on the airship. Granted it's the hardest mission in the game, the fact that we blow almost 500k-a mil at least each fight is getting ridiculous. The amount of time and prep work and then to wipe.... sigh. We're on our 5th try, we keep doing better each time but something always goes wrong. I hate CoP :p

Final Fantasy is arguably the best fantasy-themed title in the history of gaming. Heck, you have to be more than special after being called "final" more than a dozen times. As a testament to that reputation, news have leaked out that a sequel to Final Fantasy XI is already in the works and will come out on next-gen platforms PS3 and Xbox 360, and will also be on Windows Vista formats.

Yep, Square Enix is already deep into preparation for the upcoming adventure of the Children of Vana'diel. Apart from the confirmation that it is indeed being developed, no further details on exactly what plot the upcoming game will follow (if it's a direct followup of the Vana'diel quests or not), who actually will be the people handling the project, and when it will be out (or at least the date when we can actually start to expect it).

As usual, speculations were abound on who exactly is shaping up the project. IGN thinks Final Fantasy XI producer Hiromichi Tanaka and his team are still the crew manning the ship, given the said producer's previous announcement that they are currently working on another game (apart from FFXI).

We can all guess as much as we want but judging from the already-rich lore that surrounds the said franchise, it's hard to do anything wrong with it. But then again that strength may very well be the source of its weakness. We all know how touchy we are when it comes to well-established institution on any media (cough * Star Wars * cough). Sometimes, there are just expectations that can't be reached; not because the people doing it underachieved, but because the bars set were ridiculously high. Well we've been humbled before, we're dying to be again, bring it on Square Enix!

Update: Square Enix has just issued a statement denying that they are making the reported sequel. In the statement: "The Company did not make such an announcement and has not made any decisions resembling those detailed in the media report. As the Company announced in May 2005, it is currently developing an online title for next-generation platforms including game consoles and PCs; however, this title is being developed as a completely new MMORPG. We will disclose further details of this title, including platform compatibility, immediately after any relevant decisions are made."

Although they did mention that "In addition, the Company continuously plans to release expansion packs for Final Fantasy XI, available on PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Windows, as well as perform version updates." All hope isn't yet lost I guess...
So Square immediately shoots down the notion of an FFXI sequel as soon as it's mentioned. However, it's worth posting this anyway for the simple fact that Square Enix denies absolutely everything until it's made official. That being said, there will most likely be a new MMORPG for the PS3 that isn't necessarily a sequel to FFXI.

But regardless, I do hope for at least a port of FFXI for PS3, not just for the graphical upgrade, but also so I can transfer my existing stats and items from the PS2 version. I've worked hard on acquiring many items in this game, and it'll take a couple more years to obtain the insanely rare stuff (Ragnarok, holy crap). I don't want it to all be in vain if I have to start from scratch with the next game. FFXI has more than enough content to last a person's entire lifetime. And that thought makes it pretty frightening to continue playing.:edgartpg:

Shonos Jul 19, 2006 12:27 AM

Leaked out? How has it been leaked out when SE announced themselves that they were working on another MMO for the 360 and Vista at the last Fan festival? The only difference here is that there's the word PS3 in there.

They never said it was a FFXI sequel either. They said the team that worked on FFXI is doing it but that's all. I don't know where the media gets this stuff. They also seem to be pretty slow.

Also, if they were to make a port to the PS3 you wouldn't have to worry about transfering anything. It's the same game just like it was on the 360. You just simply log in like 360 players did. Everyone is on the same servers and worlds, remember? The 360 is prettier but it's still the same game.

EDIT: I forgot to add, don't forget they're also working on a semi MMO called Fantasy Earth.. or something like that. Which was also mistaken as a FFXI sequel by so many websites and people.

I could have easily started a new thread, since this one is nearly a year old, but I'm really not in the mood right now.

Basically, I'll start playing it again soon, so I was wondering, how many of you guys still play it?

Winter Storm Jun 8, 2007 07:44 PM

I play it off and on...lately I've been playing PSU but I've considered quitting it(and have).

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 8, 2007 07:52 PM

I played it for a few months and then quit when finals season started to loom. I was a female Elvaan and I believe a... 39 Paladin/19 Warrior. Puppetmaster/Blue Mage was my backup. I'll probably pick it back up when the Wings of the Goddess expansion comes out.

Go to Titan Server!

Inhert Jun 8, 2007 09:13 PM

I'm still playing it daily, I'm a Taru monk75 on gilgamesh

Greykin Jun 10, 2007 04:35 PM

Hey, I was on Gilgamesh. I bought the special boxset that came out not too long ago with all the expansions and stuff. I played the game for about 6days and stopped unfortunately =( . I came into FFXI from playing WoW, so I guess I couldn't take the difference.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 10, 2007 04:42 PM

Vana'diel Collection 2007. That's what got me started, but I happened to like the game a lot. I plan to get back into it soon enough.

Xellos Jun 11, 2007 09:04 AM

I'm not surprised that you can't take the switch from WoW to FFXI. FFXI is so much harder to get into when you compare it to WoW. I personally loved the game the minute I first played it, so i'll be looking forward to it again.

Titan huh?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 14, 2007 10:06 PM

Yup, unless you know people on another server. Titan, I'm pretty sure, has the highest density of Puppetmasters. This matters because it and Corsair have an abysmally low amount of dedicated users, and it's good if you can find them in larger numbers in the event that you attempt to use those jobs. All other jobs are represented well.

As a Paladin I can help you out by powerleveling you in the lower-level areas (39 isn't good enough once you get into Qufim or Kazham), and as a Puppetmaster I can teach you the tricks of the trade (Automaton attachments are complex at first).

Inhert Jun 14, 2007 10:18 PM

puppetmaster is the new lol job they are not very good... and in party they are even worse...
I would suggest you to take this job for your first job...

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 15, 2007 12:05 AM

Uh... He couldn't take Puppetmaster as his first job even if he wanted to, simple because it's an advanced job. He has to have one job at level 30 and then complete a quest.

And it's of my own personal opinion that Puppetmaster is hugely underrated. Here's what I've said about its shortcomings and it being underrated in the past:

Quote:

I've actually done enough research to tell you why PUP doesn't go anywhere with players-- its C+ hand-to-hand proficiency has become a sort of infamous achilles heel the job has. Around level 60, the gap in skill level between a Puppetmaster and his automaton/party members becomes a big problem, with significantly less hits for less damage. What I wish would get around to players is that PUP is ridiculously good before that gap becomes noticeable. They split hate and as such can do big damage without taking the mob away from the tank, making them one of the best DDs during that time.
They're also adding new skills for the Aht Urhgan jobs, and the Puppetmaster gains even more control over the hate it and the Automaton generate. In the right hands, it's deadly.

Inhert Jun 15, 2007 03:28 AM

I know all that I just mean by first job the one that he'll take first to 75...

they are still good soloer, not as good as bst though...

Xellos Jun 15, 2007 08:47 AM

Heh...I had to read the thread a couple of times, because I was confused why you two were constantly talking about Puppetmasters. If it's me you are talking about, I'm not really interested in puppetmaster at the minute.

I will go Titan I think, but I haven't quite decided on a class yet, I think i'll do the same thing I did before and just start as a WAR, get that to 30. Or perhaps a WHM. I played both of those before so i know what to expect at least. Back then WHM was pretty desirable class, but I would have to guess that right now theres just too many of them.

What about RDM, are they overpopulated too? Either way, I think i'll go human in bastok. <3 Bastok. I made a elvaan before, but it was either my imagination, or they missed too often. =(

Inhert Jun 15, 2007 11:27 AM

there's not really too many of these it's just that whm are now more useful at low and mid lv. with the new area of the expansion Aht Urgan, rdm are more use as healer because they are more useful with refresh and convert and all debuff magic. Especially for merit party where you want to kill as fast as possible without any downtime (that's where refresh and convert come into play)

they are still needed though it most endgame event.

as for rdm like at said there are a bunch of them but they are always in big demand. and believe me as soon as you get refresh, you'll be sometime submerge with /tell asking you to party...

and yes Elvaan tends to miss a lot at low lv since I think they have the worse dex (it's even worse if you do job like sam or drk in elvaan XD) but there's a lot of equipment to correct that, in the end you don't really notice it anymore.

Yeah, I was talking about it as a hypothetical situation. Should you have become interested in the job, I could've taught you about it (its' pretty complex).

Ha, fat chance. WHM is and always will be the big job that everyone needs. Choose WAR only if you plan on doing NIN or PLD, and only do it when you have the patience.

Do WHM or RDM. Desireable at any level (RDM for Refresh later on, but also good as back-up healers before then).

RDM is always around at later levels, and for good reason-- Refresh is a Godsend. So, there's a lot, but rarely are they left hanging when looking for a party.

As for Humes and Bastok... bleh. I'm a female Elvaan in San d'Oria and I really liked it.

Xellos Jun 18, 2007 01:12 PM

Been reading a bit more about RDM they do seem pretty cool to play with. Shitloads of Enfeebling spells, some nuking, some healing and support, and on early levels a bit of melee. Seems pretty fun to play with.

I like the idea of just starting with one of the base classes and going for that right from the start, instead of instantly jumping on a advanced job the first chance you get.

I think i'll go for RDM or WHM, and probably level a different melee based class for some farming later on. Probably something like WAR/THF or WAR/NIN.

Xardion Jun 18, 2007 02:05 PM

If you go RDM, be prepared to hardly get any party invites until 41, at which point you'll have to hide your stats to avoid a constant barrage of them.

Xellos Jun 18, 2007 02:42 PM

I'm sure I can manage somehow, I've heard that from a number of sources, but I strongly recall even low level groups usually had a RDM. I'll see how it goes and adjust to that.

I've been also reading a bit about crafting and gather skills like mining, they sound easy enough when you eventually get into it, but a lot of them need some serious cash to get started, what level do you suggest to get one up? I was thinking mining and smithing/goldsmithing.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 18, 2007 07:50 PM

If you switch to WAR, don't sub THF. Just not worth it unless you're using it to farm (after leveling THF main for a while), and you'll never get invites beyond Valkurm. Also, if you do go with RDM, save yourself the grief others will give and don't nuke unless you're killing time or trying to skill up on your own. Then again, you're talking to a guy who used /WAR when using RDM.

Sounds like you want a job that can sort of do it all. Have you thought about BLU, then? It can do physical and magic damage, it can heal itself (and others to a very, very limited degree), and almost every spell comes with various status effects tacked on. It's a really fun job, but requires a ton of patience.

Xellos Jun 19, 2007 04:18 PM

I have been reading a bit about BLU, and it seems like a cool class, and looks like a lot are interested in it, it's a lot more popular then the other 2 latest job classes according to a statistic I saw.

I think I can get used to any class really. I played a Warrior and White Mage to 30, and really enjoyed that. Only drawback I had with WHM is that you usually don't hear the battle music, because most of the time you don't draw your weapon, I mean honestly, what's the point? =D

RDM seems win though at the moment, I'll probably go for that. Only thing I haven't decided yet is RDM subjob. WHM and BLM both sound good. Both add good stats to RDM, and both add some nice passive job traits. Any suggestions on what's better for a RDM overall?
