Well, I'm somewhat fluent in Japanese now (after many years of study and spending time in Japan), but there is still more to learn. Perhaps, down the line, I might attempt to study Mandarin or Korean (easy writing system).

It was quite rewarding studying Japanese and I've learned quite a bit about the process of studying a foreign language. I wouldn't mind doing it again.

What our professor told us was: It's better to prepare around $6000, because you have to add the airfare and personal expense (like whatever you're going to buy). But thinking about $6000 for 9-12 hour credits, plus get to travel different cities and stay in host family, that isn't really too much.

Well, being Filipino myself, I know 4 dialects of the Filipino language, including Tagalog, because my parents and everyone else around me spoke to me in Tagalog. I did take French for three years in high school, so I'm pretty proficient in it, and I know a small bit of Spanish.

My friend is currently teaching me Japanese, a language that I've wanted to learn for a while now. I also have a curiosity to study Latin, and maybe perhaps Chinese, either Mandarin or Cantonese.

I was taught lating in the 6th grade and forgot it later on in life. I took up italian and tried to self teach it..and to no avail. Italian is a language I would love to learn and perhaps dutch or german.

Well right now I'd like to brush up a bit on my Chinese skills, I can speak and understand it quite well, I just can't read or write for shit. But new languages I would like to pick up are Japanese, German, and Latin.

I would like to learn Japanese for practical reasons. I'd also like to learn Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew so that I can read the original texts of the Bible. Apart from that, I guess I would like a working knowledge of all European languages.

eriol33 Mar 18, 2006 05:28 AM

Is there major difference between Hebrew and Aramaic? I heard they are languages of same roots, these languages both using alephbet. I want to study it too, but I dont think I could find one of teacher of these languages quite easily.

Well I know Hebrew. I Hope to know English better.
...& also Italian.

Wow, would you teach me hebrew?? PM me if you're interested to become my teacher. sorry of this off topic post --; (coz I'm really looking for people who speak hebrew):)

AtmaWeapon Mar 19, 2006 02:27 AM

I'd like to speak fluent German. Every phrase sounds like an execution.

Ya Volh! /clack

MisterMercenary Mar 19, 2006 08:31 AM

I am learning french at school. I'd like to learn german like some of my friends.

ava lilly Mar 19, 2006 10:29 PM

I wouldn't mind learning how to properly speak French. I had taken it for eleven years in school (juniour kindergarden to grade nine), but all we ever seemed to be taught was how to conjugate verbs, not how to actually speak it. also since my country's official languages are English and French, it'd be nice to say I can speak both fluently. you get better job opportunities that way.

I would love to learn Italian. I love the sound of it, and I would love to go to Italy some day to see all the famous masterworks and the sites. I think it'd be a better experience if I knew the language.

a few others I'd like to learn just for the hell of it: Latin (the root of many other languages), Spanish (another lovely sounding one), Greek (mostly for the same reasons as Italian), Egyptian (nerd), Gaelic (Irish heritage, might as well).

doyeon Mar 19, 2006 11:00 PM

i've studied four years of spanish, but it's quite useless for me. I'd rather study some japanese so i can translate all my imported games! =)

Goggles Mar 20, 2006 01:59 AM

Well I am somewhat fluent in Spanish which has made picking up some basic French and German easier so the language that I would really like to know now is Japanese probably as it seems quite complex.

AshRiot Mar 20, 2006 06:35 PM

I'm french and i learn english it's very difficult for me but i learn :D

Agent Olive Mar 20, 2006 07:07 PM

I'm going to start learning Mandarin pretty soon, that should be fun.

Elidibs Mar 20, 2006 08:29 PM

Existent: Russian, Old English, Latin, whatever the hell the Babylonians spoke, Egyptian, German, Swedish.
Fictional: Goa'uld, Black Speech.

I don't know when, how, or where the hell I'd use any of these, but whatever. People'd still be more prone to hire me.

'So, do you know any foreign languages?'
'Yes. I know English, Spanish, Russian, Old English, Latin, Babylonian, Egyptian, German, and Swedish. I also know Goa'uld and Black Speech.'
'Oh my. Even though four out of those eleven aren't used anymore and two don't exist, I'll hire you anyways.'

WeimarK Mar 20, 2006 09:51 PM

I wanna learn English, German and Japanese. But any language should be cool.
