Ness had BETTER be coming back, dammit.

RIP Ness:(. Even though I've never mained him or anything, it has always brought a smile to my face to see the main char from my favorite RPG smashing face. Saying that I will miss him is an understatement.

So, since even vets apparently aren't sacred, who else will be cut? I think he'll be the only vet casualty based on the clues we have, but still, we don't even know WHAT to expect now.

It's game over for all you Ness fanboys out there. Personally I like the new type of attacks, I always thought that Ness's actual Smash attacks could be better. Not only that but this also confirms my theory that neither Marth or Roy are coming back. Ike has replaced them permanently.

New? Only two of those moves are "new". One shouldn't even count, since it's Ness's back kick with some attack tacked onto it.

Gosh, I'm really dissapointed. For a "new" character, they could've revamped his move list.

I don't believe he's gone. I think he's going to get Luigi'd with moves that actually match his actual character better from Mother 2. Vets shouldn't die that easily.

And Dr. Mario. As far as character slots go he's even less unique and more trash than Pichu. Yeah I fucking said it.

And Lucas and Luigi do not share the same story. For one, Luigi was always in the same game, Lucas just showed up. Secondly, Lucas showed up Luigified immediately BEFORE Ness, not the other way around.

Farewell Ness... I hardly knew ye.

Aw, but I liked Pichu and Young Link. They should be a little different from Pikachu and Link, respectively, but still, I liked using them.

I really do like all the characters in Melee, though. I do hope ALL of them make a return. Marth/Roy had better make a return. Probably my second/third favorite characters to use.

Face it people, Ness is gone. He was hit with the Nerf Gun in Melee and they remove him completely in this one. At least his attack type isn't going away. Lucas is just like Ness, the only difference is his Smash attacks and one of his Special attacks.

They originally wanted Lucas in the original Super Smash Bros. but the N64 game was canceled. Ness replaced him when that didn't pan out. Ness returned in Melee more or less the same. Now Lucas can be in Brawl since Mother 3 finally came out on GBA and his design has changed since what was planned for the N64 version which Ness was based on for the original Super Smash Bros.

I seriously believe they won't be getting rid of Ness and will rework him like Luigi so he isn't a clone of Lucas anymore. Ness will more than likely have one PK in common with Lucas and the others will reflect his actual moves. He won't be the same Ness we're used to but that's for the best.

Why wasn't there this much wailing and gnashing of teeth when Ocarina of Time Link got the axe in favor of Twilight Princess Link? TP Link's moves are slightly different too! He's like a totally different person! Oh the humanity, a veteran like Ocarina of Time Link being tossed to the side in favor of this new squirt.

I'm kinda curious to see what they do with Luigi, though. I doubt he's getting the axe, but they're not going to bring him back as a clone. I imagine he's getting a complete workover, probably to include that vaccuum cleaner from Luigi's Mansion.

Do you have any proof of this? I find this hard to believe, seeing as how EB64 was cancelled before Smash Bros. was even announced..

Ah, I stand corrected. Smash Bros. Came out in '99, EB64 was cancelled in 2000.

That's the problem though. Ness doesn't have any elemental PK-type attacks, and had to borrow those from Paula. The only one that would be remotely close to what he has, is PK Magnet, which then was borrowed from Ninten (From EarthBound Zero/Mother, loosely).

He's probably gonna be the same plus the Poltergust 3000 for the same move that Mario has FLUDD for. Luigi was pretty different from Mario in Melee. He was only a clone in the original.

Noone is complaining about Link because his chief useless move, the boomerang, doesn't suck anymore. That's about what's different from him besides a face lift. He's still Link. If you had Ocarina of Time Link and Twilight Princess Link in this game together you wouldn't really be able to tell them apart. You'd have a clone.

SSB and SSBM's Ness is a clone of Lucas because it was supposed to be Lucas all along. We are now familiar with Ness and Ness is different from Lucas and there is potential for Ness to be a different character similar to how Mario and Luigi are now.

ness, both games were being made at the same time. Mother 3 was supposed to come out but when Super Smash Bros. came out before Mother 3, which had tons of delays and difficulties, they decided it would be a smarter decision not to include a character that no one had encountered before. Plus revealing Lucas before Mother 3 came out could have been a spoiler or something. Who knows.

Did Ness not have any PK powers? I'm pretty sure he did have some.

Okay, I'll let you run with the idea that Ness was supposed to be Lucas (still haven't seen or heard of any proof of this yet..)

Aslong as the kid has a bat so I can SMAAAAAAAASH...I'm perfectly happy.

I think Ness had PK Rockin and PK Flash for Offense, and Hypnosis and Paralysis for Assists. He also had Shield β, which could've been used like Marth's Counter move, but he'd still have to take a little damage for it. A small amount at least.

And points for thinking of PK Freeze as a move for Lucas, which I thought might happen before, but I was honestly hoping for Ness to be given his Assist powers (Along with PK Flash, and PK Rockin as a Final Smash) to at least make it possible for them to both be in it, but I guess they didn't consider that.

Lucas: Wave of the future. xD

Edit: Alright, anyone else thinking that Flint, Kumatora, or are easy possibilities now? I think with the cut of Ness, there's bound to be at least another Mother character now.

If they are going to keep him around as a veteran then they're going to have to and I hope they do. There really should be more than one Mother character as a playable character. I hope they go out the wazoo for assist trophies after that.

I think it's because Link gets new games. This was the only opportunity for people to see Ness in anything besides their Super Nintendos or emulators.

It's my Professional Nerfing opinion as a player of extremely nerfed games that I somehow nerfed a nerve. Let me just nerfing explain that I have a Nerf License in use of all Nerf terms, Nerf Items, and anything that has been Nerfed.

As for the Nerf bat that hit Ness and gave Lucas his spotlight, I'm afraid that the Home run bat is taken out of his Smash moveset. Remember they only have 3 different smash attacks and they've shown his Special, Smash, and his grab moves today.

So then why won't they name the game Super Ness Bros.: Ness.....or something or other.... :p
