You sure you can't access the save data from the SD card?

You cannot. The Wii will only look straight for the hard drive.

Even if you place the save data onto the Wii, it won't read it unless it is in the correct directory for that game. You cannot overwrite files at this time so you have to delete and replace.

At least you can backup your VC games, but they will only play on your Wii and you have to transfer them back to the hard drive as well.

Slayer X Nov 27, 2006 05:47 PM

You can put the VC games onto SD cards? If that's true then I could get my friend to buy VC games and copy them to my Wii couldn't I? Even if you can't and you can only back them up then the people who got bricked Wiis can at least now back up their VC games instead of loosing them ^^

I don't know if this is because I have an updated Wii and my friend doesn't, but I tried to take my DBZ save file from my SD card to his Wii HD and his Wii couldn't even see the card nevermind copy the file. So does anyone know if this is only because his system isn't updated or is it something else?

One of the two updates allowed you to take files on and off SD Cards.

Wow I forsee a ton of ass pains due to thise limited saving ability. Why nintendo whyyyyyy?!

Infernal Monkey Nov 27, 2006 07:38 PM

Niiiiine days to go 'til launch here. Apparently the Myer store I pre-ordered from has 26 pre-orders so far, and is getting 48 units in total. This is actually pretty huge for this craptastic town. PlayStation 2 launch day, I was able to walk in at 9AM and pick one up without a pre-order. I was also the only customer in the shop at the time. :(

I can also choose from GT Pro or Monster 4X4 as a free pre-order game. WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET GUYS? THEY BOTH SOUND LIKE FUCKING BRILLIANT GAMES! I'll pick up Zelda - the Superman 64 of the Wii game library, Wii Play (it comes with a Wii controller and only costs $10 more than a Wii controller by itself anyway so why not) and Super Munchy Balls too.

No component cables, Excite Truck or Trauma Center for the Aussie launch is bullshit though.

No. Even though you back them up, they're still locked into the specific Wii's serial number. Wouldn't work on your replacement.

Miles Nov 27, 2006 08:03 PM

My component cables finally shipped today. I am soooooo happy!

A local store here just emailed me asking if I'd be interested in a midnight launch.

I said yes, but if it's going to be insane like the ones stateside, forget it.

WiiPlay has cow tipping? I'm so there! :doggy:

speculative Nov 27, 2006 10:11 PM

Omg - just saw a couple of the "Wii would like to play" commercials. Best video game commercial ever. :D I have seen 2 different ones now.

Infernal Monkey Nov 27, 2006 10:12 PM

Cow racing! =)

Is that cow made out of yarn?

TheReverend Nov 27, 2006 10:51 PM

I'm so pissed that America doesn't have this game. So pissed, in fact, that I'm gonna go cow tipping.

FatsDomino Nov 27, 2006 10:52 PM

It is delicious yarn. =)

I must say that I've been happily playing the hell out of the Wii. I've beaten Zelda and now must go back and do the side quests, played Trauma Center up to a point where it's fucking ridiculously hard but still awesome and in my opinion the 2nd best single player game of launch, and I've been playing a bunch of Wii Sports off and on. I really must say that I'm impressed with this little system.

I'm not really bothered with the 512 mb of system memory. I really only see the SD card used as storage for saved games when it starts getting full and for media such as music, pictures, and movies to be accessed by Wii games and channels. I don't plan on transferring any of the virtual console games to my SD card (once I get one) because I've seen a video of how long it takes for it to do a simple game like Donkey Kong for NES and it was like 2 minutes. Maybe the SD card they used sucked ass but that is ridiculous.

But yeah Nintendo's code is really efficient so I don't foresee needing an SD card anytime soon.

My only gripe with the system is the power button on the controller. They need to do a firmware update with a failsafe option you can enable that asks you when you press that button to either turn off the controller or turn off the system (which will also turn off the controller). I pressed that power button to turn off my controller because I wanted to save battery while I wasn't using it. Yeah, it turned the system off. At least I had saved the game just before doing so but yeah I really think they need to change that.

Infernal Monkey Nov 27, 2006 10:52 PM

Sure looks like it! Just like real cows!

The whole tech demo-ish package looks like it could be a pretty fun game to waste a few minutes on every now and then. There's cow/yarn/Playschool racing, air hockey, table tennis, target shooting, pool, fishing and some some Atari 2600 type Tank game;

It's been confirmed somewhere or other to hit America late January. =o

Hmm with that in mind nintendo probably will release some firmware to deal with this save game issue. I dont see how you're gonna free up space on the Wii HD by putting the savegames on an SD. Currently everytime you'd go to play one of the saved games you moved, you'd have to move it back onto the HD by freeing up more space on another SD? just to pop in an old game? =( must be fixed!

Well, Wii gamesaves themselves take up 1~3 blocks out of the 2000+ blocks that the Wii has in that 512MB.

It really is only going to be an issue for those who download a bunch of 64 games from the VC I guess.

Helloween Nov 27, 2006 11:51 PM

Did anyone catch Stephen Colbert's mention of the Wii on the Threat Down?

I'm seeing so much more advertising for the Wii, and it's games, than i have for any nintendo system ever. It looks like Nintendo is doing things right, and getting word out about the Nintendo Wii, which was a concern early on (or at least it was for me...)

Will it have the combo Wiimote deal? (can you check the source?)

Infernal Monkey Nov 28, 2006 12:17 AM

I think I originally got it from GoNintendo, but that site's a complete disaster when trying to find previous articles.

EB Games have it listed now, though.

"Wii Play with Wii Remote
Pre-Release
Ships 01/15/07
$49.99"

DjMeas Nov 28, 2006 01:06 AM

I have 2 Wiimotes so far, and i'll pick up another soon maybe... but for SURE, i'm
gonna have to wait to get the fourth one once Wiiplay comes out on Jan 15th.

That's one heck of a wait though~ I really wanna play Doubles in Tennis!

= on a side note =

I'm planning on trading in my copy of Excite Truck to EB/Gamestop.
They'll probably give me $24 for it which i want to put towards a copy
of Trauma Center. Sounds like a good idea? Any Suggestions?

BlueMikey Nov 28, 2006 01:14 AM

It never sounds like a good idea to sell something you bought one week later for half what you paid for it.
