Yes, it was OPM that gave that little hint, by the way it's:

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

From the screens released it looks like a shoddy port job, but the game is solid nonetheless.

In January 07, GT HD and Premium will be released for the PS3. Both are packaged together. Let me explain this:

GT:HD comes without cars or tracks, and you purchase them via microtransactions. IIRC, to get all the cars and tracks you'd have to spend ~$300-$400. GT Premium is basically GT5 Prologue, an early showng of a game that's got a lot of polishing ahead of it.

Another difference is that GT:HD uses GT4's photo mode models, and tracks while GT Premium has tracks and cars modeled from scratch on the PS3. One final thing, GT:P comes with only 30 cars and even fewer tracks.

So basically it's a waste of time. As if the PS3 isn't going to be expensive enough, but you have to cough out further for a beta version of a game which won't even be released the same year. And the beta is released in january, a year and a half before the actual product is released.

That sounds like mega bullshit. It also sounds like Metroid Prime: Hunters, which takes up the same scenario, except the demo was bundled with the DS for free. I'm not one to be fussy, but paying for "virtual cars" or "virtual tracks" with actual money is garbage.

People could probably question that with "well, you buy a game to play in a virtual world, so what's your point?" but you're actually physically purchasing something and physically obtaining something which could be credited for if it were, say, stolen. I don't see why people should have to pay more just to be aheaad of the rest.

Agreed, that's why my stance on this is: Don't buy it

Vote no with your wallet and show Polyphony that this shit doesn't fly, because if we don't, expect to find ourselves paying $60 bucks for an incomplete game with downloadable content raping your wallet just to finish the game.

I don't see any reason to get this, since the final game will be at least 20x better than this and actually come with tracks and cars.

Elixir Sep 29, 2006 10:38 AM

Are they releasing this beta thing in january of 2008 to simply pool money, or is it actually a preview? Because I mean, I've seen Prologue on sale the same time Gran Turismo 4 was. That's probably because it was selling well.

Or it could've been left over stock from not selling them, I don't know. Was GT4: Prologue good? Gamespot's not coming up with anything for it, it's just directly linking to Gran Turismo 4 itself.

It's just a cobbled up bunch of assets that are presentable enough to sell. And it's January 2007, Jan 2008 would be kind of close to GT5 proper.

Never played it, so I can't really say. Prologue isn't even a real "game", but like you said it's more of a beta type situation.

Just so you guys know though, that concept of having the two different GT5 packages is just that... a concept. They haven't actually said exactly what they're going to do, it was just an idea that they probably threw out there at TGS to see people's stance on it. We're going to have to wait until later to hear any final decisions as to how GT5 will be sold.

Aww, I thought they said it wasn't going to be that. I was hoping on seeing some sort of massive announcement about a surprise Grand Theft Auto game or something. :(

No, none of these games is GT5. The expected release date for these two, packaged together, is January 2007. GT5 proper isn't expected to release until that same time next year.

Oh, and Rockstar's made it abundantly clear that their next gen title will be on both consoles simultaneously. Apparently, none of them wanted to pony up the increasing sum of money they were asking for exclusivity.

Edit: PS3 Demo kiosks already going out

At this rate, the system may actually make it out on schedule!

Accoridng to the paper, the multi-story Yodobashi Camera outlet in Tokyo's Akihabara district now has an actual PlayStation 3 unit on display. A monitor above the system shows trailers for games like Afrika, Genji, Heavenly Sword and The Eye of Judgment.

The system is strictly hands-off at this point, but the newspaper reports that customers were stopping to take a look before heading to the register to purchase Pokemon Diamond & Pearl for the DS.

For a picture of the first retail PlayStation 3 unit, check out the Akiba Keizai Shimbun website.

I agree. but it seems as if Polyphony is trying to satisfy the needs of the hardcore GT lovers until GT5 comes out in a few years.
GT is a fantastic franchise, i'm a huge fan and i'd love to buy the latest installment for the PS3, but as mentioned before for the price you have to fork over, it ain't worth it.

Soldier Sep 29, 2006 03:41 PM

Nice, can't wait to see the shakey cam videos that will result in those kiosks.

Look at that MGS billboard. Japan owns us. :tpg:

They did say that. They just can't make up their mind.

Rumor: PS3 to come with Blu Ray Demo Disc.

Quote:

Who remembers back in the day when the original Playstation launched with a demo disc giving gamers the chance to try out games without having to rent them first? I know that I remember it all to well and it was one of the first things I thought was pretty awesome from Sony although having a demo disc these days is nothing special. Well there is a rumor going on right now at SPOnG that the Playstation 3 will have a Blu-Ray demo disc coming with the system at launch.

he full rumor looks to be that it will come with a Blu-Ray demo disc designed to showcase how films can look given the high-definition treatment at 1080p to win over non Blu-Ray enthusiasts. So remember this is just a rumor right now, hopefully Sony will continue to follow in their own footsteps and have some kind of demo shipping with the system but no official statements have been made.
Wouldn't surprise me, since the PSP came with a UMD demo that showed off the different media of the system (game videos, movie trailers, music videos). A similar disc to show off Blu Ray movies and games would be nice, but it'll be better if the game demos are playable. Some brand new system-exclusive trailers for games like MGS4 would sweeten the deal, as well.

RacinReaver Sep 29, 2006 06:11 PM

How about launching a game with the system. Anyone remember those good old days? =\

Slayer X Sep 29, 2006 06:51 PM

Yeah, but it's not really as good of a deal as it sounds. First off the company is going to charge to compensate for the game included. And then if that's the case then not everyone is going to want that game.

However I do still say that there should be like a 30% off coupon or something towards a game when you buy the system.

RacinReaver Sep 29, 2006 08:19 PM

I think for six hundred fucking dollars they could throw a short Jak & Daxter game my way. Hell, when I bought my stupid Soundblast 16 card I got six fully functional (and pretty decent quality) games with it.

Besides, Sony (and Microsoft) still hasn't come up with a mascot, and the only way they could ever hope to do it is if they do a launch title along with the system.

one could argue though that Sony did create one in Crash Bandicoot, but then he's kinda disappeared after mario and sonic kicked his ass basically.
microsoft have Master Chief, probably one of the only hugely successful things to come out from them with regards to videogames (on the scale of the others anyway)

ZOE3 and SH5 confirmed for PS3:
Scan for ZOE3 but not SH5: http://www.metalgearsolid.org/admin/...sm3_zoe3_2.jpg
Info from new PSM. Someone on the PS3 forums has the mag and says ZOE3 may come out before MGS4 and come with a demo of MGS4 just like ZOE1 did with MGS2. Also the Magazine says SH5 is being developed by a US team and should of been at TGS, maybe Sony held it back?

Metal Sphere Sep 30, 2006 12:20 AM

PSM3, the same magazine that broke the ZOE3 and SH5 news has just received a PS3 from Sony along with Motorstorm beta, Resistance and a few other titles:

It's just 'confirmation' that there will be a confirmation on ZOE 3 in the next issue. I'm not immediately dismissing the news as false, I just want to remain cautiously optimistic until the screenshots are revealed.

How long until that PSM3 site updates? I want to read their impressions on the system's bells and whistles, namely how PS1 and PS2 games play and what visual enhancements you can implement.

Lots of effort was placed into the first Jak & Daxter even though it was terribly short. Then the series seemed to take a really odd turn for the worst with this mutated looking Jak.

Everyone's going to be judging the PS3 by it's launch titles and graphics of them so I don't think anything like that will happen.

Here'a a whole slew of photos of RR7 at TGS, again, courtesy of DCharlie from GAF. Notice the "=O" face on one guy playing.

MAn I just got back from plsying RR6 on my 360 and I was just saying how it's still one of the best looking games for the 360 (wgich is sad). However when I look at these pics it makes RR6 look like a cartoon, lol. Thanks.

Metal Sphere Sep 30, 2006 09:57 AM

That's unbelievably close to what DCharlie and Wollan said over on GAF. They kept reemphasizing that while the art direction and overall style of the game remained the same, the lighting, courses and clever use of textures and subtle HDR lighting really makes a difference.

Not to mention the hyper-crisp resolution and 60fps gameplay. In other words, a marked improvement. We don't know if this is just a port up or a "from the ground up" title. We'll have to wait and see if Oblivion looks like the above in photos.

Edit: Confirmation of PS3 XMB OS running at 1080p, Friends list, etc.. Notice the Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2) option in the game area.

I'm just saying Jak & Daxter as an example, since prepackaged games have traditionally been the platformer type (other than Tetris which is a good enough puzzler that everyone likes it). They could try to make a new set of characters since Jak, Sly, and Ratchet are supposed to be nearing the end of their lifecycles (haven't all the developers said that they only wanted to make 3-4 games for each?).

I'm not asking for a full sized game, I'd just like something that's a little bigger than a demo disk. And besides, if it's a good game, the cost of including it with the console should be evened out by the massive advertising campaign they get out of it for the next game in the series. Seriously, who here didn't want to play the next game in the Super Mario series after they bought it (or Donkey Kong Country if you bought that package)?

Metal Sphere Oct 1, 2006 09:41 AM

First sighting of that famed PS3 Best Boy setup posted earlier. The motto for the U.S. seems to be Play Beyond.
