So all this was part of the FFXII day in NYC right?

Elric VIII Oct 15, 2006 03:09 AM

Am I the only one who thinks this game is insanely difficult? It started off pretty easy and all of a sudden I found that every boss was effortlessly taking down my party. I've had Game Over multiple times on nearly every boss. All my characters are level 28-29, I an at Bur Omisace, trying to fight that one Judge... I can't even take down his three flunkies before I just get torn apart.

The problem is that there's really no intermediate Cure-Curaga attack, just Cura, which affects all the members of the party, which isn't what I need when one character is hurt. So intead I have something like Ally:HP < 60% -> Cure; but all that causes is sometimes endless loops of curing. One character gets hurt, other characters cast cure, while they're casting cure another character gets hurt, another character casts cure, etc. So against tougher enemies I can't even hardly get any attacks in. But when I try to use Cura, what usually happens when fighting bosses is that the character gets KO'd right when the ATB bar is full. It's just infuriating.

I've had to level up before every boss fight. In this case I leveled up and took the time to buy the most powerful weapons available at the time. I'm still getting my ass handed to me. I don't know what to do anymore. I can only see the final boss of this game kicking my ass repeatedly.

There must be some huge strategical aspect of the game that I am missing.

I get a dead link, but are these the ones you're refering to?

The recent photos aren't, they were taken at the DigitalLife event in NYC that's been going on all weekend and ends today where FFXII is on display and playable along with the likes of the PS3, Wii and other titles.

Yeah that's them. I could of swore it was 6" figures from Koto but looking at the photos on Play Asia I'm pretty sure it was the trading figures now.

Excellent, finally an FF that makes you use more than 2 brain cells (besides FFIV hard type, and perhaps a few fights in VI)! :tpg:

So, why don't you just turn off Gambit and use hi-potions?

More like requires you to level up before every boss fight.

Simo Oct 15, 2006 03:29 PM

I guess if you're persistent enough you can get one of those LE display cases...

I haven't been able to see it in person but it looks nice from that photo. I'm just happy it doesn't have any of the EB/GameStop junk on it like their other LE tin cases.

ashaman Oct 15, 2006 03:50 PM

I read that widescreen functionality was added to the NA version. If it wasn't in the Japan release, does that mean the FMVs are still in 4:3 or did they re-render them in 16:9 for NA?

Are there any other added features to the NA version?

Also, if the last boss isn't too hard, are there secret bosses like Omega/Ruby/Emerald Weapon? Sephiroth and [insert last boss for FFX] posed no threats to my characters, but those Weapons and Monster Arena bosses were tough.

Inhert Oct 15, 2006 03:59 PM

almost all "summon" are optional boss (not sure but I think they are called Esper in that game too no?)

I didn't play the game but I heard there's about 5-6 summon that you get following the story and the rest are sidequest (there's 13 summons and for the last I think you must have all the other 12 before fighting it) and I heard that ultima and the last summon are really hard.

Probably re-rendered for 16:9. I'm pretty sure that's specifically why the widescreen option was implemented for real time and CG events.

Yep namely events that may of been just text in the Japanese version are now voiced over along with additional scenes that were cut from the Japanese version.

Heh, quality wise then look pretty good for trading figures, then again, those shots are of the prototypes.

Oh the FFXII Play Arts figures, they finally got a street date! February 28, 2007 is the release for the Japan (as listed by cdjapan anyway), meaning the NA release will probably be about 2-3 months afterwards. Which is great news for me, as I'm strapped for cash.

Um, no. The CG is widened, but not to full 16:9. There's still black bars on the sides, it's not really that noticiable though.

Haha, actually getting just the LE case for some people who just can't wait. :stares of LE box alll day:.

What is it now, 16 days?

Freddy Krueger Oct 15, 2006 05:48 PM

There are TONS of optional bosses, this game has the most sidequests/optinal bosses then any other FF.

As, Inhert and Freddy said... there are tons of mini-quest that you can take up either to obtain the ultimate weapon of each type or to increase your clan rank and recieve special award tokens (rare goods).

Mob hunt is one of the major side quests, which consist of lot of running around and killing tough enemies. I guess, in summary there are 32 Pub Mobs and 13 Clan Mobs... and I have to say Clan mobs are waaay harder than Pub offers!

Freddy Krueger Oct 16, 2006 05:54 AM

Anyone else doing the later sidequests? I beat the game less then a week ago so I have been trying to finish all mob hunts and such. g

rpgcrazied Oct 16, 2006 05:45 PM

so.. all you guys that downloaded it, an beat it.. how is it? is it long?

Would you buy the retail version, now that youve seen it all?

How long? Without the Side Quests i would say 40-50 hours at a normal pace.

How did i find it?

Story sucks big time, but i do like the whole Star Wars thing (fan and all). The Voiceacting is INCREDIBLE! The Battlesystem is kinda refreshing BUT i still prefer the turn base system as i want to feel like i'm doing all the work (gambits,etc..). The dungeons are also annoying,i felt like i was playing DIABLO all over again...it didn't feel like Final Fantasy at all.

The thing i do love about this game is the sidequests...boy,there are TONS and i am planning to do em all:)

Will i PAY for the game? I don't know....but something inside says i will. I always did have respect for Square (Enix) and i even bought FF X-2 for crying out loud. But the two games i was looking forward to all year (Kingdom Hears 2 and FF XII) were SUCH a disappointment...they really fucked up. So the answer is...dunno XD

Yeah for this run I am doing all the side quests til no drop remains XD
Also some minor mini games too :)

Lets see how far I get before getting tired and finish the game.

Simo Oct 17, 2006 04:54 PM

14 days....

Some GAFers are reporting that their local EB and GameStop stores are now telling customers that preorders have stopped for the regular edition while preorders for the LE version will come to an end in the next day or 2 due to an increased demand for the game.

So I guess if you plan on getting the NA version and haven't preordered a copy yet then now is the time to do so.

Soldier Oct 17, 2006 05:04 PM

I just hope the claim about the game being handed out early (october 24th) to pre-orders proves true. I talked to a GS clerk last week and he denied it. I'm all set to play the game next week, considering how busy I've been this week (dentist, final, TB test).

Ain't happening. An EB manager said pretty much the same thing in that SE hasn't mentioned or sent word of a push in release date so it'll be on shelves October 31st or November 1st depending on delivery.

The LE guide should be out next week though.
