True. As I said, it's not entirely rational, fanboyism that is.
For some reason I'd expect this game to score higher. But thinking about it (and checking the older scores) EG always scored the MGSs a little lower than others, Snake Eater (not Subsistence) also "just" scoring an 8. It's this fanboy thing. I WANT the game to be good. And not just good, but mind blastingly amazing. So any hint that it won't be is a bit of a letdown and causes some not entirely thought through reactions. Especially since I don't exactly care about any kind of review. I'll buy this game anyway. And chances are, I'll like it a lot. But this is just part of a bigger issue, basically that of gaming reviews and the scoring system in general. I think a system that's basically just a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" would be something I favor. No more "yeah, but this racing game is .563% better than this shooter!" But that's pretty much off topic now. Till now EGs review is the lowest score it's got so far. Other reviews are a lot more positive. But having read (other) reviews by people like tim rogers from pushactionbutton, this is probably not going to be the lowest score the game will get. I mean, MGS4 seems - from what I can gather - to be following an very old fashioned formula, and adding several layers of glitz (and hopefully some improved controls) onto that. Personally, I'm not one of the people shunning "old fashoined" games that have a strict seperation between interactivity and narrative, or in general games that don't reinvent themselves with each iteration (and, which game actually DOES that anyway? Since IV that's not even something that can be said about Quake. ) But looking at a lot of criticism GTA IV got for example was mostly about that. Why play IV, it's III all over again with shiny graphics. Which is both true and false, but game reviews tend to always be highly subjective. |

To spare you of the agony, Eurogamer's review was perfectly positive. They praised the game. It was so reasonable in fact that it raised my interest for the game (which have till now been around the amount of interest I have for a new Barbie game on the DS). They simply show rational thought and acknowledge their review scores are between 1 and 10, not 9.4 and 9.9. |
I watched the cutscenes on Youtube already. I give the game a 7/10.

Good thing the game was rated not as a part of the series but as an action game by itself. Should honesty be compromised by popular opinion? Hopefully not. Now I wonder how they used the stylus in-game. |

How about using the Mic? Will you scream shit there too? |
This game helped me overcome a serious problem that could have led to lung cancer, emphysema, or heart disease. For that, I would have to give it a 10/10.

Had quite some time re-finding the MGS4 thread but oh well.
If EG rated it 8/10 and still had a positive review then it sounds like the liked it, i can see how they can rate it.. i mean i don't really understand the 9.5 or 9.7s or anything with a point, it's either go all the way or not what are they afraid of. It's still been getting a lot of praise and i don't normally go on reviews unless its a game i haven't heard of or series i haven't played. Pretty much from playing the MGS game on PSone i've sealed the decision that i'd be playing the series how long it went on every time. And mostly i do that for other games as well, don't need a review to change my mind one way or another no matter how good or bad the game may be. But even so it's nice to see games you play be rated high, even so i'm not one to need to feel the reassurance that i'm playing a good game. Still counting off the days, gonna be excited to play it finally. |

Hey i found it right? The others will come!! ....eventually.
But you're right shouldn't be any review bickering.. no new info as of yet just this load of fanboy rumor panic. |
baka^^ asked me to change the thread title to original one, since i don't want to burn moderators ass down to ashes {by changing it myself}, i am asking here if some moderator here changed the topic on some purpose?

The new thread title is a joke

I agree, bring back the Bobo GFF days. It was all alot more friendly back then.

Also to make this post relevant, 9.9/10 on IGN UK for MGS4. Konami is also supposedly telling reviewers to not mention required installs and something else I don't really care about. Not paying attention to reviews, buying it anyway. Anyway cloudbaka and NovaX can continue being fanboys, Deni can continue being a fat douchebag, and the world will keep spinning. |

I dunno if GFF has in fact changed that much. Didn't spend much time in the video game boards back then.
Thread "hiding"... Wtf...? Reviews: The "japnanese weeaboo" (srsly, GFFchan?) pretty much made my point. The snide side remarks of the other prove the ridiculousness of whining or even the attempt at discussing review scores. Thanks a lot. Still, I'm pretty much with the points Dennis Dyack makes here. But that's something worthy of its own thread... |
