I saw Pitt's naked ass and figured that was the high point so I turned it off.

What, I wasn't interested in seeing him jump around like a ponce.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 15, 2008 05:49 AM

Plus Troy has some of the most pathetic spear fighting ever commited to celluloid. I blame Troy for the recent spate of films where the combat sequences are all shot in shaky-cam and sweeping crossing shots so you can't see what's actually happening to make up for the fact the actors can't fight.

Additional Spam:
Oh and Pang, Bob's new icy spell does 1D10+4 damage doesn't it on account of his mad Burning Blizzard skillz?

The unmovable stubborn Dec 15, 2008 10:23 AM

+5, actually, with the magic staff. Fixed.

Spears are tagged as "versatile" so you can wield them one or two-handed but with a damage bonus if it's two-handed. So you can do it, but it's kind of clumsy and stupid. Like Troy.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 15, 2008 12:01 PM

Woohoo, 6-16 damage, niggas better watch out now...

What sort of level would a mage need to be to get any spells that might have a chance of actually killing anything before you got chopped to pieces without a handy group of psychopaths to slow down attackers? I mean, there must be some high-level, blasting goblins into chunks spells right?

The unmovable stubborn Dec 15, 2008 12:13 PM

Of course, within a few levels goblins won't be any threat at all.

But by then, why would you be encountering them?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 15, 2008 12:18 PM

Because slaughtering weak monsters who have little chance of injuring him would make Bob feel good about himself so he'd actively seek them out of course.

Is there any danger of picking up any useful skills by spending the day in a library? Do such buildings in fact exist in DnD cities or would extended browsing at a bookshop do the trick? I think Bob should certainly pick up some kind of teach yourself to speak foreign book.

The unmovable stubborn Dec 15, 2008 01:33 PM

I have no objection to Bob training himself in a language he ostensibly ought to already know.

So, Ritual components.

Every ritual is keyed to Arcana, Heal, Nature, or Religion (or a combination thereof).

Each type has a certain kind of component.

Arcana: Alchemical Reagents

Heal: Mystic Salves

Nature: Rare Herbs

Religion: Sanctified Incense

If a ritual has a "component cost" of 10 GP, that means you have to expend 10 GP worth of the appropriate component when performing the ritual. If a ritual has two keywords, either of the appropriate components will do.

Components don't have a single granular unit, you just purchase "50 GP worth of Rare Herbs (or whatever)"

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 15, 2008 01:53 PM

Oh ok, Bob's buying enough to use the ritual once.

I was thinking more that Bob should learn a different language and get people to translate for him via that one. He does speak common, he just can't make out anyone's accents. Having him communicate through a translator pixie strikes me as amusing. He gets by well enough without though, it's all good in the hood.

Sarag Dec 15, 2008 07:14 PM

I don't see the my rituals in my wiki page. What were they again? I think Brew Potion was one.

Also, if I can brew potions, can I make healing potions? How much would that cost me in ritual components?

Also, what sort of healing does a healing potion give you, or a healing poultice?

The unmovable stubborn Dec 15, 2008 07:37 PM

Okay, added the Rituals (except for the one Bob just bought) to both your and Shin's wikis (just after the Inventory section).

Brewing a healing potion would cost just as much as buying it outright, but at least there's some flexibility there.

A potion of healing gives you a flat 10 HP for the price of a healing surge. The poultice (if I'm reading it right) gives an extra 2 HP healing to every surge you use during a rest.

Oh goody, Bob's gonna starve to death because he splurged all his gold on gear :3:

Provided I stop providing them with enemies which are huge and edible

Not our fault. We're merely following in the steps of a long line of adventuring wizard cooks.

I just started checking out that character creator in the first post, which is awesome, by the way, but somehow I missed the fact that the holy symbol has to be held in order to be used.

I mean, I always knew it was connected to abilities, but I didn't realize it occupied space in your hand. =/

I guess a cleric with a quarterstaff would have to constantly be switching back and forth between weapon and symbol, correct?

Bob's going to rely on bush-tucker for the time being and he's still got a couple of gold left for snacks. Plus, he has a long bow now so is bang up for some Robin Hood style poaching if needs be.

PHB pg. 236:

Unlike other implements, you need only to wear
a holy symbol for its property or power to function.

Weird...the character creator keeps wanting me to socket the holy symbol to a hand. I guess it's just a limitation of the program.
