My ex did that whenever she caught a Pokemon she had no interest in training. She caught a Spinda, mostly as Dex fodder, then named the poor thing "Retard" because it has spirally eyes.

I actually felt bad. I know it's absolutely stupid, but all I could think about was the little Spinda's joy at finding a trainer, then its complete disappointment over being named "Retard" and crammed in the PC forever, never to frolic in the sooty ash again.

I forced her to trade it to me. I trained it for a while until I realized that Spindas are pretty much worthless, so I released it.

I'm sure she has more horribly named Pokemon floating about. She caught a Diglett once, and planned to raise it, but wanted a name. For some reason, we'd been discussing what sort of psychotherapy rap musicians would need, so she named the Diglett "Thugrapist", as in "a therapist for thugs". I told her it looked like "thug rapist", and somehow that made her love the damned thing even more.

I just give mine normal, fear-inducing names like everyone else. I'm not a mean person.

The only horrible nickname I could think of that my friends have made for their Pokemon was "Damn Fish" for his Magikarp.

It made it funnier for us when he evolved and the evolution line saying,

"Your Damn Fish has evolved into a GYARADOS!!"

the cherish ball animation better be cooler than the lousy premier ball one. i don't understand why they couldn't have kept the old premier ball anim (it used to make my shiny wurmple look extra shiny). if all the giveaway pokemon are in cherish balls, it'll temporarily set apart some of the hacked pokemon from the official handouts (hackers will start to notice eventually, but it'll help keep things straight for a little bit).

speaking of shiny pokemon, do you think that 1/8192 manaphies will be shiny or do you think they didn't bother making any?

Can anyone help me? How does one check a pokemon's EPs (yes, I know there's no screen for it and I have to calculate it on my own, but what do I have to know)?

Also, I need to know how to get the SING move. Is there a TM for it?

Checking for Effort Points? If you haven't been keeping track in the first place I believe it's near impossible to calculate exactly how much EP's you collected for any one pokemon.
I could be wrong though.

And there is no TM for the move Sing. From what I've seen you can only get this move either by leveling up or through breeding. Not many pokemon can learn it as a egg move though.

I have no idea what pokemon you're trying to raise but you might get what you want by researching more into the move Hypnosis.

Well, I didn't see this coming, that's why I hadn't been keeping track. You see, I'm still using the same pokemon I played through the game with.

This sucks. My Ponyta has been unharassed for over a day now, but no trade for a special Psyduck. Up until that point yesterday, I was usually traded a normal Psyduck once every three or four hours.

The other way to get Manaphy is through Pokemon Ranger. It hatches out of an egg so it is possible for Manaphy to be shiny.

yeah, i know that much, but this was addressing giveaway pokemon in general... i think i remember hearing stories about someone getting a legititmate shiny mew...

technically, you are able to calculate roughly how many EPs a pokemon has gained by seeing how many vitamins you can feed them. if you can't feed them any more, it's either because they maxed out EPs in that stat, or because they maxed out their EP total.

you can isolate the numbers with basic arithmetic, but it might take some time to figure out exact digits...

Yeah, as for Mew, if you had that special item to get it in any of the 3rd Gen games, you would meet Mew on Faraway Island or something like that. When you encounter it, you have a chance of meeting it as a shiny.

Ohh, I didn't know this. I missed out on a lot this past generation. I guess this is what I get for just playing through sapphire real quick and never touching it again until pokemon D/P was out.

On the subject of shiny pokemon I've recently made a new record of making a 39 chain using a pokeradar. And STILL no shiny pokemon. I'm beginning to wonder if the only way to get the shiny pokemon I want is to cheat :(.

I think Mew was only available in Emerald.

As for chains, my highest was with Hoppips at 29. Followed by Miltank with 22, since I wanted to get a good amount before I let it slip away into the crowd of Tauroses. Anyway, that makes me think that 39 isn't actually all that high for shiny hunting. I could see it taking chains into the hundreds.

Honestly, the best way to find the shiny you want is to trade. Just make sure it at least looks somewhat convincing before you trade for it.

After following everything in the Pokeradar guide it did show me how to consistently get a 20~25 chain instead of a 9 or 10 chain. But yeah, the odds still stand at 1 in 8192 battles no matter how long I chain. What I really need is more free time and infinite patience, haha.

Eh, I don't know about trading for it. Most of the offers I read about seem kinda fishy to me (I guess I have to assume they all use AR to get their "legit" shinies.) I may end up taking one of those trades one of these days. But for now I simply want to get a shiny pokemon without the extra help.
