How much LP do you gain from a typical battle?

Shenlon Oct 8, 2006 09:27 AM

I've never actually noticed
Only time I ever notice it is when I get 1lp and i'm like wtf o_0
You can get quite a few though I notice my lp goes up randomly. I honestly don't worry about it too much becuase I usually wait till I have around 200-400lp so I can start wasting it and that would have me set for a long while. You can earn it pretty easly basicly, I already have my board filled up more than halfway on the magic side.
Weapons aren't all that in the beggining since you can learn all the good ones but you can't find them anywhere that sells them ><

JazzFlight Oct 8, 2006 10:34 AM

You get 1 LP for every monster. If there's a particularly big monster like a T-Rex or something, you'll get 2 LP. Bosses give 5+ LP.

If you're trying to gain LP quickly, you're probably better off fighting a whole bunch of weak enemies rather than strong ones, because they'll all worth the same. Remember, everyone earns LP, even if they're not in your party at the moment (however if they're KO'ed they don't earn exp or LP).

Later on you'll be able to buy something called a Golden amulet at stores (4500 gil each) which doubles your LP earning. I've equipped it on everyone and licenses are going a lot faster. Everyone has their 3 quickenings and I'm trying to get all the augmentations (HP+ and speed bonuses).

Vemp Oct 8, 2006 10:34 AM

Sup Star Wars reference. I feel it's like a Star Wars movie made into a game. I just started, so far so good.

Mucknuggle Oct 8, 2006 10:38 AM

Does it matter which quickenings you give to people? Also, since they can all learn the same skills, I'm assuming that every character can fill each "role" more or less equally well as every other character? Do some characters level up certain stats better than others, thus making them more suitable for being a tank, or magic user or whatever?

JazzFlight Oct 8, 2006 10:46 AM

There are 18 quickening spots on the license board (and some are easier to get to than others). To find them without looking at an FAQ, you can just run the cursor over each spot on the board. Even though it won't say the name of the skill you can unlock, it will say the license point requirement and the type (sword, augment, technick, quickening, etc...). That way you'll always know where to take your path to get to a quickening.

2 are usually positioned at the end of a particular path (at the far end of the magic path, the technick path, etc...). I sent each character down a path and had them learn all the closest ones they could.

You don't have to worry about permanently messing the board up by having one character take a quickening, because you can get all 18 anyway if you spend the necessary LP.

Now Esper Summons, that's a different story, but it's not that important either since I heard they're not that powerful in the end-game anyway. I'm just going to give 1 esper to each person down the line and repeat as necessary until I have all 13.

Nissay Oct 8, 2006 10:58 AM

Lol i hate Fran's voice 2, sounds like an old witch. But wow is she hot :p,

I just got the Sword of Kings or whatever and boy does it suck. I hope the story gets better cuz it's kinda lame atm. Ohyeah the names of the espers are ridiculous: i would rather have the old ones like ifrit,shiva,etc...

Mucknuggle Oct 8, 2006 11:02 AM

Do the different quickenings have different effects? Everybody is describing them as limit breaks, but the only concrete details I've read is that they double your MP. I'm assuming that different ones have different in battle effects?

Shenlon Oct 8, 2006 11:11 AM

quickenings only do major damage but its more effective when ur able to pull it off in a combo with another character that has a quickening. Then they will pull their off and so on.
Its really simple, your given a time limit to pick one of the other characters to pull off their quickening and then it repeats itself and the time limit keeps getting shorter until ur completely done.
It's not like FFX where you have to do certain things for each character, it would have been better that way :/

That sounds like a big trade-off for money.

Now that you mention it, yeah I think you don't. I only have one character set up to do poach, so it doesn't get off all the time since usually it dies pretty instantly once it gets into critical.

Freddy Krueger Oct 8, 2006 11:43 PM

Well I'm around 36 hours into the game and man is it BADASS, the gameplay is really addicting and the story is really cool too. I have no idea how much I have left but I think A LOT so this game is definitly a huge one. After Xenosaga EP III, VP2, and other RPGs this year being kinda short it's nice too have such a big RPG.

I'm wondering is anyone else getting HUGE loading times in the game?

I'm talking plus 1 minute for some areas? Sometimes my ingame cut scenes look up too :(

CuteChocobo Oct 9, 2006 05:17 AM

Actually the funny thing is that my original Japanese version has a slower loading time compared to this copied English version.

I dont think I have encountered much 1 min loading time, usually about 30-40 sec max... but the FMVs does load for quite some time at the start.

Freddy Krueger Oct 9, 2006 05:39 AM

I get about 10 second load times.

Mucknuggle Oct 9, 2006 07:09 AM

Does each weapon have it's own look when being used? i.e. sword 1 and sword 2 have their own models when wielded by the characters. What about armor? Does the appearance change when you change what their wearing?

I think no game beats Magna Carta in terms of loading time :P I'm about 2 hours+ into the game and I don't have problems with loading times, takes about few seconds?

So far about 2 hours 30 mins into the game, and it's great. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but very few games nowadays manage to get my attention and I'm somewhat addicted to FFXII already.

Like the idea of all characters being able to use the same weapons/accessories etc, but I must say gils and LP are really hard to come by. Clocking in 2 hours+ I only have 300Gil...and when did a simple potion cost 70G?

You are selling loot, right?

Sell all loot except for:

-Teleport Stones
-Gysahl Greens
-Snake skin (that you get from the Nidhogg quest, but it's not too important if you sell it, it's just used in a quest to get a normal item you could buy later)

All Weapons and shields have their own models, not armour though.

Yeah, but they don't worth a lot right now (stones, pelts etc). And I have a bad habit of keeping at least 1 item of everything just in case I need them later on. So it's safe to sell off all loots acquired besides the ones you mentioned?

Vemp Oct 9, 2006 08:01 AM

I'm a furry for Fran.

:( FFXII MADE ME FURRY.

12 hours into the game. And do you have to do the Bills in order? I kind of skipped 2 bills in Rabanastre, and now I'm in Bhujerba, after they escaped from the Dreadnought Leviathan.

Shenlon Oct 9, 2006 08:17 AM

I just get all the bills as they come up although alot of them are too strong at first but they don't seem to disapear on you. Looks like you have all the time in the world to finish them off.
And yes, fran is a hotty bunny. I didn't play the japanese version so I don't know about her voice there but her english voice is not what I expected. I thought she would have sounded more like lulu.

And how about the zodiac gems (Aries, Leo, Tauros etc.)? I found a few, but I don't know where. Are these required for a quest or something later on?

JazzFlight Oct 9, 2006 11:24 AM

From all my research at the gamefaqs boards, you should be able to sell essentially everything (loot) because over time it will unlock bazaar items for you to buy. Some people are worried about not trading in rare items until they have all the items to unlock the bazaar item, but I doubt you need to do that.

I'm 99% sure that the game tracks which items you sell throughout the whole game.

Ashton Oct 9, 2006 01:32 PM

This is where i am currently:
Spoiler:
Going through the westersand to find some rock for Ashe to prover her lineage or somesuch

Does anyone know where i can get some cheaper and more powerful cures? Cura costs way too much MP, Magic potency dosen't seem to affect cure at all, and i have some 700 hp and 100 hp cures/potions aren't cutting it anymore :(

Shenlon Oct 9, 2006 02:34 PM

I think you can go to the west side of rabenastre to get some high potions depending on your rank from the bills.
I think bhoojerba (thats not how its spelled ~_~) also has a merchant with hi potions. Those can cure up to 400hp.
or you can increase your potion recovery from the board
