I'm going to wait in line right now for the Wii at Costco~
They didn't have them on launch like planned and are getting them in
this morning~ Hopefully i'll be able to grab 1 of the 24 available ^_^

It's a $339.99 bundle that comes with Zelda and Excite Truck~
Hopefully another controller too!

I have bought two games for the Virtual Console... Legend of Zelda and Wario's Woods.

The interface in order to purchase the games is pretty easy and straight forward.

Once in the Wii Shop Channel pick the Virtual Console (pardon the crappy shots)
http://warcraft.distinctworlds.com/p...al_Wii-036.jpg

From there you can choose your games by console, alphabetical, or newest added...

Downloading is quick and simple... and entertaining with Mario running across the screen collecting coins to mark your progression. He'll jump into bricks above him as a more accurate way of marking progression.
And the games don't take up too much space... which made me happy. One thing that did bug me after I read up on it... the VC games cannot be put onto an SD card. If you are running out of room, then delete the game off of the Wii. You can go back later to download it again since you've already paid for it.

As for the gameplay themselves... I think it will take me some time getting used to the Wii-mote turned sideways. I did crank through the first dungeon in Zelda rather quickly... no deaths... only one send-back by the grabby hands near the end of the dungeon...
My wife liked Wario's Woods... she didn't seem to have an issue with the controller that I could tell... but we will probably pick up a classic controller in the next week or so depending on what they add into the Wii Store in that time...

I have a question. Has anyone had trouble with messages not sending to other Wiis for a long period of time? Skills sent me some messages last night and they just arrived in my message board today. Does the Wii have to be off, so WiiConnect24 can engage, or what?

DjMeas Nov 20, 2006 12:20 PM

GOT IT! As said, they had 24 and there were only about 14 people in line...
So i don't know who those lucky 10 customers are gonna be ^_^

Gonna set this sucker up ^_*

Considering it's not an entirely centralized service ala Xbox Live, a delay of some magnitude is expected.

I'm sure it'll iron itself out over time though.

Also on the virtual console, seems that most of them can NOT be played with a gamecube controller. Oh well.

Err, What?

If you look at the compatible controller icons on each game's page, it seems like ALL of them can be played with a gamecube controller.

ApOcaLyPSe_1985 Nov 20, 2006 01:05 PM

Really? Thanks for the info! I was afraid some games forced you to use (and buy) the Classic Controller after reading some news articles. I prefer the GC controller over the new one anytime. The Classic Controller has this weird unattractive shape imo.

DjMeas Nov 20, 2006 01:07 PM

Yowza, Updates are taking quite some time~ it's been about 10 minutes,
but it's almost done.

I've seen some ads for different places which are selling the Wiipoints at
different prices~ Bestbuy's ad said $23 for 2000 while Circuit City's is $20
for 2000. I guess it's not standard pricing.

OMG!! Bowling is SOOOO FUN! I'm having a blast !

value tart Nov 20, 2006 01:23 PM

I think in that case it's just some retailers trying to get a slight markup on the prices. The easiest thing to do is just to enter in your credit card number.

I'm really liking my Wii so far, but I'm going to have to go on a serious hunt for some component cables. My TV does NOT handle composite very well at all, and there's a distinct video lag. Which i was expecting, because that's the problem the TV seems to have, but it's something that never seems to happen with component cables. Too bad Nintendo decided not to make nearly enough of those damn things.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Nov 20, 2006 01:30 PM

You know, it doesn't even bother me so much when I only have an EDTV and the games aren't all that fancy looking, but I could use them just to free up my composite jacks for my PS2.

value tart Nov 20, 2006 01:32 PM

Yeah, I'm not saying I really care if the graphics are any better, I just know my TV handles component about 5000 times better than composite.

I got a broken system. F-Zero sure does start up saying "Classic Controller Required" and any button-mashing I do on any other controller does nothing.

Soldier Nov 20, 2006 01:52 PM

This was probably answered already, but are all Wii games displayed on 16:9 on widescreen TV's? What about GC games that didn't have widescreen originally?

The best deal is at Circuit City this week. They have $5 off all Wii accessories, and the Wiipoints are lumped into this category. I just picked up a 2000 point card for $14.99.

Sonofabitch, I could of saved some $15 on accessories, but they're probably in VERY limited stock..

nuttyturnip Nov 20, 2006 05:21 PM

Yeah, when I went yesterday, they were only selling accessories to those who bought consoles. I went to a different store today, and bought the last Wiipoints card (the only accessory left in the store). I was looking for a classic controller, but the online site says none are in stock in my area. You might have some luck finding Wiipoints cards, though, because most folks wouldn't think of that as an accessory.

Helloween Nov 20, 2006 07:33 PM

Ok, here goes. Gonna look like an idiot.

I currently do not have a wireless connection or anything like that in my house. I have one computer, and my TV lines connected to the internet via cables. If i want to get online with my Wii (when i finally get one) what will i need to do to get there.

I'm really hoping to play some Smash Bros. Brawl with my GFF brethern.

FatsDomino Nov 20, 2006 07:39 PM

Well eventually there will be a USB to ethernet adapter but the easist way is to go and buy the wifi usb adapter they use for the DS that allows you to piggyback your computer's connection. You can find it at retailers these days. I'd call first though to see if they have any.

Yeah, my Wii will be arriving by Wednesday hopefully. I made the mistake of only grabbing 1 wii controller though. I should have nabbed 3. I completely forgot that my family is doing Thanksgiving this year. 4 player monkey ball and wii sports would have been a blast. I'll continue to look around though. Maybe there will be another shipment tomorrow or Wednesday.

scotty Nov 20, 2006 08:06 PM

Yeah I got a Wi-Fi connector for $10 just because the box was beat up (I saved $20 or so) Didn't even need it at the time, but I couldn't pass it up. Right now I am eagerly awaiting my moms arrival from out of town because she said she would look for the Wii for me, I don't know why because I know she wont be able to find one. My hopes and dreams shall be crushed again...

Taterdemalion Nov 20, 2006 08:31 PM

I fell for that novel bit of advice that you didn't have to wait in line to get a Wii. You could simply waltz in to a store late on Sunday and beautiful women would scale a mountain of Wiis and pick on up especially for you. And then you'd drive happily home and immerse yourself in your very own Wii. What were we thinking? I guess reading the posts of people who have Wiis will have to suffice until I can get one at the end of this week.

I will require a wireless network in my house for that though, yes?

CloudNine Nov 20, 2006 08:36 PM

No, the USB adapter will produce the wireless network that the Wii will use. You just plug it into your modem/router, I believe. It's made for use with the DS and there is no ethernet plug ins on that, so it should work likewise with the Wii.

no

Since the Wii has the wireless connection included to it, it seems that the Wi-Fi usb adapter (that will be plugged in a usb slot of your PC) works with the Wii to go online wirelessly................

EDIT:

damn did it take me that long to write my post?.. 3 minutes......

FatsDomino Nov 20, 2006 08:40 PM

No, Hell. The idea of the USB adapter is so you don't need to use a wireless router. It's for people like you who don't have a wireless router.

Helloween Nov 20, 2006 08:56 PM

Alright, not so stupid anymore.

Sweet, three responses. Thanks guys.

Aw shit, now i REALLY want a Wii.
