Nope. February release for NA. Sometime around the Smash Bros. release. Smooth move guys...

trackjacket Dec 4, 2007 11:12 PM

Yeah, kind of dumb on Ubisoft's part. It's not like the game has much appeal outside of a niche audience, to begin with. The IGN Wii guys said they were going to try and talk to Ubisoft and see if they could convince them to get the release date either pushed back or moved up, since the game's localization has already been completely finished, and just needs to go gold. Pretty doubtful that they'll change the date, though, since publishers generally adhere to a strict release schedule.

IGN: The Jobs of No More Heroes

Some menial tasks you can complete in No More Heroes:
- Coconut collector.
- Lawn mowing.
- Garbage collecting.
- Gas station attendent.

Kimchi Dec 6, 2007 04:54 PM

Sounds like bunch of useless GTA mini games.

Slayer X Dec 6, 2007 07:54 PM

That's because they are mini-games and there are a lot of inside jokes about the game industry made in this game. That, the over the top blood, and the crazy story & characters is what makes this my most looked forward to Wii game of '08.

Infernal Monkey Dec 8, 2007 03:54 AM

PAL version censored.

Quote:

It's hardly a crucial matter, but after recently playing the European version of No More Heroes - the assassination actioner from Killer 7 creator Suda 51 - we're a bit miffed about the lack of bloody violence. Especially since Suda had always promised the game could be "even more violent than Manhunt 2".

Ah. But that appears to refer to the American version, which features decapitations, ludicrously brilliant fountains of blood and other ultraviolent combat consequences. In Europe, we'll be playing the 'dead bodies turn to black ash' version, which is also released in Japan.

Why? Well, we asked the chaps who showed us the game, from publisher Rising Star Games, if the decision had been influenced by the BBFC's refusal to grant Manhunt 2 a Euro release. "Maybe," was their terse answer. Hmmm.
oof.

Personally I don't give a shit (wuh ooooh I need mah red on da screen), but it seems a bit silly considering the Euro rating system allows for 18+ games. Killer7 was rated 18+. Rockstaaaaaar! :argh:

First Brawl comes out in June (at BEST) here, and now this. I'm no blood-fixated kiddie, but I sure do hate censorship!

Orderin' mah Wiikey.

Infernal Monkey Dec 8, 2007 04:29 AM

Actually, now I'm also wondering what Rising Star will do to the box art.

I guess copping a feel won't go down so well for the PAL one.. and remember, this is the same publisher that turned this..

Apparently, shitty box art is the right of all sentient beings, Infernal.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Dec 8, 2007 01:16 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the North American boxart too, since it could pretty easily give the wrong impression about the gameplay.

Kimchi Dec 8, 2007 07:51 PM

I hope they do. I dun really like JP box.

Slayer X Dec 8, 2007 09:42 PM

The JP art isn't anything special. The NA one could easily be bad, but at the same time it could also be better. Therefore I'm open to it.

I hope you didn't. The Japanese version of No More Heroes doesn't work on European Wii consoles, legit versions or not. It doesn't seem to matter what Wii modchip you have either, so basically you're stuck with the PAL version, unless the US one miraculously happens to work.

I want this so badly, because I'm gay for Suda. And, because it's so terribly reminiscent of God Hand. The one game I've been looking forward to for months, and this happens. :(

I don't mind the censorship really, since it isn't cutting content (Hello Koei, hello European Nippon Ichi titles), and will be basically the same as the original. It's when they go cutting even more stuff then it becomes a problem.

So basically Japan can go to hell

After 20 minutes of being outside the store, not one single person came by and bought the game. All those people walking by, and no one was interested in the game. The situation was so bad that someone from Enterbrain that was covering the event actually went inside, bought a copy, and brought it out for the pair to sign.

Japan, you are really getting on my nerves. I like training games too, but they aren’t the end all/be all of gaming. Where did your heart go?

Man, this picture's so sad. No one wants the game, yet Suda 51 and Yasuhiro Wada look so enthusiastic about being there.

Kimchi Dec 10, 2007 07:18 PM

... I guess this is failure in Japan huh? Let's hope the gameplay doesn't suck.

trackjacket Dec 10, 2007 10:36 PM

It's kind of hard to say if it's a failure, as there's a dichotomy present. On one hand, it's likely going to be the highest debut for a Suda 51 game ever (his highest first week sales ever was 15.3k, can't recall the name, but will look it up upon request), with No More heroes selling 10k copies on its opening day. On the other hand, No More Heroes will be lucky to pass 30k sold in its lifetime.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Dec 11, 2007 02:53 AM

Poor Suda. I would've been there. :(

The game will sell far more in North America. Definitely not one of those one million in a week type of games, but I think it should at least hit 50k in its first week. I'm hoping for a sleeper hit that sells 100k or so, but I would seriously doubt it. Not with the Wii userbase and demographic.

All in all, I echo the "Japan can go to hell" sentiment. Scorn a bad game-- not an awesome third-party title for the Wii.

Malmer Dec 12, 2007 05:41 AM

It's too bad, this game was a 'must buy' for me, and sadly the only non-1st party game left on my list.

I'm not buying an uncomplete version. Game is boycotted.

=/

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Dec 12, 2007 01:18 PM

You must be talking about the censoring. How that makes a game incomplete is beyond me.

It's like saying the original Japanese release is incomplete, too.

Malmer Dec 12, 2007 01:32 PM

I'm no blood-whore, but it's like removing the blood from Kill Bill. The extreme spurting is a part of Suda's whole artistic vision.

Killer7 without blood? Fuck no.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Dec 12, 2007 01:49 PM

Artistic vision? It causes slowdown. If art gets in the way of practicality, I say fuck it.

The black spray is what Suda was okay with, so I don't see why you need more.

I'm not ok with it. But there's also a significant part I'm not particular proud of. Something as lame as a principle, but it fills me.
Europe got screwed again. This joke is so old, it hardly ever raises an eyebrow. It's our standard. Heard EU got screwed? Yeah well...

Normally I just import (enjoying my dualshock 3 by the way, the rest of Europe may get it in 2008 (may not?), for twice the price in the stores here).
This would require me to modchip or import a new Wii though, and it will suddenly cost me some dough I shouldn't have lost in the first place.
All for the sake of licking Germany's ass or whatever.

Not supporting.

I really think I would have enjoyed this game though.

Infernal Monkey Dec 15, 2007 03:45 AM

Yeah but for everytime we get stuffed over with cut content, six month ++ game delays and being charged three times more for it, we get an exclusive game released the rest of the world will never have THE JOY of playing.. like.. um. Wacky Zoo GP! And everything is balanced out nicely!

Oh yeah US box art popped up today, it's pretty good. =)
