omg what a twist and awsome ending to episode 4 ><
Spoiler:
hiro (is that his name?) came from the future to deliver a message to the fly boy who supposidly gets a scar!
I guess this means that they all know each other in the future and maybe the bang already happened. I thought it was syler at first but I guess he got more badass with the powers.
It was also nice to see how the artist saw the future.

Oh and I wouldn't have thought that the dude would have raped a dead girl no matter how hot she was o-o

damn i wish I had the time/space powers to see the next episode ^^;

Loving this series so far and tonight's episode was no disappointment.

Spoiler:
Future Super Hiro FTW!!!

So then I gather the younger brother has more of a "Rogue" thing going on in that he can use the powers of those he comes in contact with, albeit temporarily.

I love this show. :)

Well, she's a double personality with some unusual strength. I wonder if there's more than meets the eye, but I wouldn't be surprised if super strength was all she had.

Anyways, I was kind of taken aback by future!Hiro's appearance. I guess I should've expected some sort of intervention from future characters considering that the show is grounded in comic book mainstays, but I found it slightly cheap all the same. With any luck there won't be much meddling around with the past from future versions of characters.

I'm curious to find out how important Claire is to "saving the world." You don't spout lines like that and have her do something dinky like hold open a door for the superpowered people to run into. Or perhaps the prediction meant that first they had to save Claire and then they would have to save the world.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Oct 16, 2006 09:33 PM

Well, we don't exactly know the extent of Niki's abilities, now do we?

Spoiler:
Okay, D.L. is most likely a bad guy. That sucks. I'm pretty intrigued by him now, however. Someone mentioned that his ability was listed as "phasing", but now I'm skeptical. It looks more like his ability is mental in nature. Perhaps he can delve into peoples' memories and view them, or even erase them.

There weren't any really big shockers in this episode, though. I guess the biggest curveball was the end, in which Hiro appears from the future to deliver a message.

At least it looked like he got himself a proper costume.

That's not D.L. D.L.'s the black guy we briefly see in the episode preview (or was it a commercial aired during the show?) kind of, um, flying away really fast.

How do you know this?

Rockgamer Oct 16, 2006 10:11 PM

I really liked tonight's episode. It gave us insight into almost everyone's power who hadn't already been clearly explained, and it managed to pack in a couple of surprises as well (yes, future Hiro ftw).

One thing I kinda didn't like about the episode though was how some of the heroes were using their powers for the wrong reasons. Niki was understandable, but Hiro and Claire didn't have to do it. Ultimately though, these people are still just humans, so it's not that surprising to see that they are using their abilities for personal gain.

Another thing I was disappointed in was the lack of focus on Matt's character. He was there for like the first two minutes or so, and then they never touched on him again for the rest of the episode. And just overall, the whole episode seemed kinda disjointed, like they would focus one person for about a minute and then spend five minutes on the next person. I know they have a lot of characters to focus on, but I think they could have handled things a little better than how they did (I doubt the show will be like this once they all come together).

Spoiler:
I have to disagree with your disappointment in Hiro and Claire. I laughed pretty hard when Hiro's friend (Ando I think?) used Peter Parker as an example of why he should cheat to get money. I was only disappointed that they started using it to play cards by switching hands with other players. There were so many games to play without making it obvious there was cheating going on, yet they went for the poker tables. Hiro could have at least just stopped time to look at the cards in the deck before they were dealt.

I think Claire's actions were for the best as well. No, it wasn't really a hero thing to do despite what scum that guy was, but it showed that she isn't just going to hide pain and do nothing except cry about it. She takes action, and crashing that car will likely stay with her as a reminder not to act so rashly in the future.

Niki's ability is a bit disappointing so far, but there could be more to it depending on the severity of the situation. Beating up a single guard in an elevator isn't really the same as two armed hitmen who were already attacking her. The interesting part was that her alter-ego has its own identity, knows all about Niki, and cares about Niki and her son.

Peter's ability is a very nice surprise though. I was thinking he had a connection to his brother so their flight only worked when they were close to each other, but his power mimicry/absorption is pretty nifty.

Sepharite Oct 16, 2006 11:17 PM

What didn't really make sense was...
Spoiler:
Why didn't Hiro make his friend (who speaks near-perfect english) to talk to the comic book guy?

Regardless, one of my favourite shows this year. <3

Awesome episode, can't wait for the next one to show more awesome people and their abilities.

Spoiler:
I love the ending! Hiro came back in time, Future Trunks style with sword and everything to deliver a message, lol.

BTW, back in ep 3 Mohinder found a little book with names of people that his dad studied, listing their possible powers. The first page was some girl with the possible power of "Transportation."
WTF is transportation? I never heard of a power like that. Is the chick going to change into a public bus or something?

Have you guys checked out the short comics at NBC.com?
Also, there's Hiro's blog that's pretty cool to check out.
Here's a passage:
Spoiler:

"Do you believe in the Butterfly Effect? I do. Nobody has to see the future I saw. The future can be changed. That is my destiny.

I've been dreaming for a moment like this my whole life. I've become Chrono in Chrono Trigger or Trunks in Dragon Ball. I've become the hero in my own RPG. Except that this isn't a game. This is real. There is no saved game or cheat codes. I get no Phoenix Downs. There is no game over. There can't be.

I'm excited to take this journey as a hero. In reality, I'm scared. But I have to, and will overcome it. I will not be like Trunks or Akira. I won't live in a post-apocalyptic world. I'm going to save the world! I hope I find my Marle and Lucca though. And soon."

This is beginning of my adventure.

With great power comes great responsibility,
Hiro

P.S. On the November 8th paper, it said "wins by landslide". What's does
landslide mean?

Loving the reference to CT and DB! His blogs are a fun read to gamers.

edit:

His blog explains why he picked up the gun in future when he was at Isaac's place...
"Note to all my fellow gamers. In a game, you see a weapon on the floor, you pick it up. In real life, you see a weapon on the floor, probably not a good idea to pick it up."

Shonos Oct 17, 2006 01:09 AM

I'm really starting to believe in the idea that Niki has the whole Hulk thing going on. She can friggin tear people in half! Only difference is she doesn't turn green, doesn't grow 3 times her size, and doesn't lose complete control of herself.

Also, anyone have any idea what that marking was on her back..?

makura Oct 17, 2006 01:21 AM

That's the same marking as found in Suresh's genetic code study (Mohinder said it's the way to find the supers in ep 2), Isaac's paintings (in future in ep 2), and on the mysterious guy's necklace.

The Plane Is A Tiger Oct 17, 2006 01:45 AM

Haha, how many entries does Hiro's blog have? I usually never bother looking at the character blogs and other extras shows put up on the web, but that entry gets an insane amount of props for all of the Chrono Trigger references.

I'm not sure that it's really an anger-triggered thing though. We've already seen her black out at least once without any sort of provocation when she was driving to pick up her son.

makura Oct 17, 2006 03:16 AM

Major spoiler on Peter in future eps.

Spoiler:
Someone on the 9th wonder forums got it right, I think. Peter has the power to mimic or leech other people's powers.

That explains why he can't fly without his bro. (Who actually flies to save a girl in those short comics on NBC.com.. and possibly that shirtless guy chased by Claire's dad in the ep 5 promo.)

Also in the promo, you see Peter's eyes all white. Probably borrowing Isaac's powers.. after they shootup together haha.

And which explains why Peter can freely move on the train with Mirai (future) Hiro.

edit: BTW that "S" symbol is on the hilt of Hiro's katana

It actually looked to me like he was black, but the scene was too brief to be very telling anyways.

LOL

Spoiler:
Mirai no Hiro

Future Hiro is AWESOME. XD

The Wise Vivi Oct 17, 2006 06:40 PM

I know I am a little late. But I just finished watching the first episode, and I find it interesting. I will have to get a couple more episodes and watch them to see how much I like them.

Admiral Amara Oct 17, 2006 11:56 PM

ARGH! NBC.com is hosting Episode 4 on their site, but their archive is apparently missing part 5 (out of 6)! According to the spoiler tag conversation, I seem to have missed an actual display of Niki's power, as well as whatever leads up to that last subway scene. Part 4 leaves off with Peter pounding on the door to Isaac's apartment, and part 6 picks up with Isaac lying on the floor with several pieces of artwork about Claire completed.

Following certain revelations of tonight's episode, I believe I must update the Heroes/Powers List, which I've expanded to accomodate for villain characters and secondary characters as well.

The Plane Is A Tiger Oct 18, 2006 12:01 AM

Eh? I just looked (since a friend watched it on NBC.com a few hours ago and had no problem) and part 5 is up and working. You shouldn't have any problem with it.

Admiral Amara Oct 18, 2006 12:08 AM

Well, I'm there right now, and it is informing me "Video Not Found!" when I attempt to view part 5.

Oh, wait, it's working now. Cool. I was trying it as I was typing this, and it decided to work for me, so I'm off to watch that now!

EDIT: It's laggy as hell. I'll give it a bit of time to load/buffer, I guess.

makura Oct 18, 2006 01:42 AM

I still have eps 2,3 ,4 up on sendspace... Links are in one of my previous posts here. And I think ep 2 and 3 are about to die if inactive for another day or two.

In episode 3, when Claire is taking her textbooks out of her locker, her Geometry book (I think it's geometry at least) has the symbol handwritten on the bottom of the book. If I'm not mistaken, it's also in that small creepy room in Sylar's apartment.

OH MY GOD!!! HOW HAS THIS SHOW SLIPPED PASSED ME?!?!?!?!?

I have to say I absolutley LOVE it! Its got everything a new age geek could want. I just got hold of the first 4 episodes from a friend and my god is this show amazing. Its like they took the best writers from Lost, C.S.I, Buffy, Charmed, Superman Returns, 24, Prison Break and some kind of wizard and made them write a show! The twists and turns are great, and it leaves you drooling for more.

The tragic cheerleader who is invincible - Absolutley amazing idea and very VERY well acted out. This role is amazing, and it came to its pinnacle when she
Spoiler:
woke up in the mortuary with her chest open
I see her as a possible villian to the series at some point, but initially I think she will fight for good
Spoiler:
as she just rammed a car into a wall at over 80mph killing the rapist/murderer

The dreamed out boy who can use anyones powers - Great initial twist on this one as you originally think he can fly, but he evolves into a many layered character with alot about him. I see this guy as the lead hero when they finally band together (which they are SO gonna do) as
Spoiler:
he is the one Hiro comes to with "The message from the future"

The successful senator who can fly - I really liked this one too (hell I love em all). We start off thinking its his brother who is the flyer, but in fact its him! He denys it at first then when he accepts it, he ignores it.
Spoiler:
When he is staring out the window in the Casino talking to the mirror girl, he says he wished he could just soar over the desert, showing that deep down he knows what he has to eventually do.

The single mother with issues and a Jekyll and Hyde ability - This character has so much depth its almost insane. She is confused and scared by her power but lets it guide her, even though she doesnt like the way it is going, but she will sacrifice herself at all costs for her son,
Spoiler:
until she kicks the crap outta the guy in the lift!

The herion addicted artist who paints the future - Another great character who I see as being the "Zordon" of the heroes (Zordon being that big floaty head in Power Rangers for all who dont know) as he accepted his power immediately and is embracing it.
Spoiler:
I think we will see the scene where his head is hollowed out again, and also that is closely related to Sylas I think

The downtrodden japanese cubicle worker who controls time and space - An absolutely AWESOME character made cooler still now
Spoiler:
because he pauses time around the main boy, and comes back from a more distant future to deliver a message to him, and he is wearing a leather long coat and a samurai sword
His power is excellent and he is very quickly evolving into it. I see alot of interesting twists for this guy.

The underworked policeman who can read minds - This is the weakest character of the set but still awesome. His story seems a little disjointed from the others but I am sure he will be integrated a lot more in later episodes. A character with true potential and from what I have seen thus far, they will not dissappoint.

Sylas - Wow, just wow.

Mohinder - Kinda cool, but no power yet so poo on him :D

Devere - See Mohinder.

Well thats my 0.02p on Heroes, im a huge fan now and cannot wait for episode 5. Could anyone tell me which night it is aired on in america, so I know when to get my download of the next one please ^^

I'm sorry, what are you talking about? The show is predictable and filled to the brim with clichés. As someone on another forum said, the only cliché they haven't used yet is the glass of water falling down in tragic slow-motion - but we'll probably see that sooner or later.

Of course, the stupid new age crap they keep throwing does little to help my skeptical sensibilities ("10% of our brain"? "the cockroach is the pinnacle of evolution"? duurrrrr), but I'd forgive them if it wasn't such a trainwreck of a show. As it is, though... :|
