Five days to go.

Anyone have some kind of program that can take the ACX music off the UK site? Jesus, this is bringing back some serious AC3 vibes... and that's a good thing.

Rock Oct 20, 2006 05:42 AM

Where is that UK site at?

Metal Sphere Oct 20, 2006 06:21 AM

Here it is. Just go over to Ace Combat X and click it. As long as you have the game's overlay up, it'll keep playing the tracks.

Rock Oct 20, 2006 07:46 AM

Track 1
Track 2
Track 3
Track 4
Track 5
Track 6

All digitally recorded from website, because I didn't feel like messing with the HTML source and Flash decompiling. Enjoy.

I bow to the aerial god that is Schwarze-3. Thanks man.

Edit: Damn, track two is fantastic. Brings me back to the ravine missions of old, one of which was at night.

Mobius One Oct 24, 2006 02:33 PM

Anyone have it yet? When I checked Gamestop earlier, they had just gotten their shipment in but had not unpacked it yet.

No online mode, so I hope I can get X Link working with it!

Rock Oct 24, 2006 02:39 PM

Yeah, this game seems to be in fucking stealth mode, although it's been officially released today.

I've been looking all over the place for a retail copy, but as of now, it hasn't even surfaced on P2P networks. Damn you Namco, I need to play this, now!

Mobius One Oct 24, 2006 04:22 PM

The good news: I have a copy of ACX, as well as 2 other people who also bought it while I was at Gamestop.

Bad news: My new used PSP is a piece of junk, and it needs to be charged before I can update the firmware and play ACX. CHARGE FASTER!!

Rock Oct 24, 2006 05:25 PM

Does it require the latest 2.81 firmware? Oh please don't tell me it does ...

Mobius One Oct 24, 2006 06:04 PM

It requires 2.81 firmware before you can play the game.

Great news everyone, this game is fucking amazing! Everything you'd expect and MORE. Nub controls roll and pitch, D-pad controls yaw and slower pitch for fine-tuned gun aiming. It works really well. You have to change the camera view from the options screen. Select allows you to view enlarged radar and square changes to secondary weapon. Other than that the controls are all the same.

The music is pure awesome. Very similar to AC3, but much more modernized. I almost didn't want to comlete mission 2, just fly around and listen to the music.

The mission select map from the original Air Combat makes a return as well.

I'm off to buy a memory stick so that I can SAVE REPLAYS. That's right, you heard me.

Double Post:
Wow, the Viggen is spectacular! Definitely the weapon of choice for mission 3.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 25, 2006 01:05 AM

How big is the average replay file? Am I finally going ot have to upgrade to a larger memory stick?

I came.

Also, the ISO that's out now reportedly works with DevHook 0.46. ;-)

First impressions:

God, this game is wonderful. Ace Combat X is definitely the best the PSP currently has to offer. It's shockingly close to the PS2 installments of the series in terms of ... everything.

Controls, graphics, instensity, fun, drama, soundtrack. It's there. It's all there. Everything you would have expected from AC6 (if it was released on the PS2 now) is packed in this utterly amazing game.

Seriously, this is a game worth buying a PSP for.

Mobius One Oct 25, 2006 04:52 PM

Each replay is 768 kb regardless of length.

My only complaint is that my hand is seriously starting to hurt thnaks to the odd placement of the nub. Then again I've been playing absolutely non stop. Maybe I'll buy that attachment that makes the PSP more like a PS2 controller and doubles as a battery.

Rock Oct 26, 2006 09:07 AM

I've made a few screenshots myself while playing, just look at what the PSP is capable of in terms of graphics:

Don't be confused by the German texts, this game comes in multiple languages (speech is English, though) and there seems to be no option for changing this.

Also, I'm doing a line in analog recording of the music from the music player (unlocked once you complete the game). 24 tracks total, about halfway through. Expect some nice music here soon ...

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 26, 2006 11:08 AM

Damn you. I was going to do the recording. =o

Oh well, you'll probably do a better job than me anyway. Huzzah.

Rock Oct 26, 2006 11:24 AM

www.nullpunktseite.de/acxrip/

Have fun.

Don't expect perfect quality, though. It's an analog line recording with cracks, hisses and distortion all over the place. If you can help with properly identifying/naming the tracks, be my guest.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 26, 2006 01:28 PM

You don't give yourself enough credit, sir. The way you make it out to be sounds like it could be completely unlistenable. The very nature of analogue recordings makes it less than perfect, but this is pretty much the only option one has for ripping form the PSP, so what you've done here is quite good.

That said, I'll get back to you on the track IDs shortly. I'm almost done the game, I'll just go through it today and finish it off and replay some of it to get the track names and stuff for you, alright?

JasonTerminator Oct 26, 2006 03:01 PM

The game comes with the latest firmware on the disc, right?

My school's WiFi network doesn't like my PSP, so if I can't upgrade from the disc I'm screwed.

Rock Oct 26, 2006 03:04 PM

The game comes with a 2.81 firmware upgrade on the disc, but it's perfectly playable on 1.5 with DevHook emulating 2.71.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 26, 2006 07:22 PM

Wow, short game is short.

The flight time clock on my file reads 2 hours and a few minutes. Obviously more time is spent in the menus and shit but the actual FLIGHT CLOCK thing reads just a bit over 2 hours). That's doing every optional mission too. Short short SHORT.

Hopefully the other difficulties will be harder too, didn't really get shot down once either.

Other than length and challenge though, this fucking ROCKS. <3

Mobius One Oct 26, 2006 09:44 PM

Anyone try X Link yet? Once my brother leaves town, I'll have nobody for cannon fodder.

Last time I tried using Xlink for my PSP, it required some sort of special wireless adapter and mine wasn't supported. I need to do some further reading on this, though.

No but this game is making me seriously consider it.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I'm floored. The controls took some serious getting used to at first, but after that it's pretty smooth sailing. I haven't invested too much time in the customizable planes, but the concept at it's core seems really really nifty. There's even an extra hardpoint add-on for EVEN MORE MISSILES. This is great.

The music seems like standard fare, but I've been playing without headphones for the first few missions so I haven't heard it all the way I like. Mission 10A (Jamming mission that slightly resembles Blockade from AC04) had a pretty bitchin tune though. WANT.

I just hope they don't mess around and get on the move with an official soundtrack realese.

Anyways, I should get on finishing this thing and unlocking more planes. GELB-2 out~

Also Rock, excellent work on the rip. I'll give it a listen and try to get on identifying tracks ASAP.

Without the epic chorus theme, it's still yummy. No.16 and No.17 is more AC2-esque than AC3 (Kobayahi or Nakanishi can compose them tho) and No.24 is diffrent from the style of the recent AC sound team. I really want to get the credit soon.
