Ive heard rumors that there are co-op only encore songs. I've also heard that co-op can't be played in career mode online, it has to be done local.

If true that sucks, as now I have to force someone to play with bass with the normal controller just so I can unlock all the songs. Boo-urns.

Also sunday coming like what.

Slayer X Oct 25, 2007 01:09 AM

Yeah, that's true. In co-op instead of the boss battles it has exclusive encores instead.

SuperDK Oct 25, 2007 01:33 AM

"Through the Fire and Flames" is tough for me right this moment because my hands are hurting from extensive playing. I should listen to the 15-minute break warnings :P.

Anyway, I actually thought TtFaF was going to be easier than Jordan, but I guess I was wrong. Either that or I just completely suck right now, considering I eventually beat Jordan like 10 times, 3000 points away from 5 starring. :( I got to 83% just a little while ago. Close to actually finishing it, but not enough to pass the dual solo (or whatever it is, I can't remember).

As for co-op only encore songs, I don't remember because I was disappointed in not being able to play TtFaF by progressing through co-op. The rumors are probably correct though, since my younger brother and I went through it on expert and we got some songs that aren't in single player...and now that I think about it, I dunno if you can play them in career SP.

OmagnusPrime Oct 25, 2007 07:24 AM

Pre-ordered my copy of GHIII last night. It's not out over here until 23rd of next month (bugger) but I have to say, I'm quite looking forward to it, despite having never played any of the other games. Should be good.

Slayer X Oct 25, 2007 06:59 PM

Yeah, I was going to pre-order the game a couple days ago but EB stopped taking pre-orders, not knowing how many copies of each version they're getting.

That's fine, I'll just have to go to FutureShop an hour before open and wait to get it. Not likely to be a line, and if so only one or two people. And even at that I'm getting the PS3 version so I think my odds are pretty good for Sunday.

For thoes who are also getting the game on the PS3 it is CONFIRMED that the guitar will not allow you to play GH1,2 or 80's on the PS3 too. So keep your old PS2 around and perhaps invest in an official wireless guitar for it cause you're not going to be playing them on a newer console any time soon. This and other facts of interest can all be found HERE

Wall Feces Oct 25, 2007 09:57 PM

How are the bonus songs? Any good?

AlphaDeus Oct 25, 2007 10:26 PM

Normally I try to pick up the game early at a local shop, but I've only succeeded once in getting a GH game early (I picked up GH:80s about 4 days before it's official release date). I saw GH2 on the shelves for PS2 a few weeks before its release date but the computer stopped it from being sold. If it were posted on a bittorrent (PC version) I'd snatch it up just to mess with since I have both a 360 explorer and a PS2 USB controller adapter. Regardless I'm still buying the 360 version at a midnight launch.

My Gamertag is IKarusZino if you want to add me and maybe we can play sometime. I play on expert and I'm fairly good. The only thing that would stop me from passing Through the Fire and Flames is Stamina. I've tried to play along with the youtube videos and I always end up having to stop right before the big solo. I've tried it on other videos too and I get the same way, which is weird. It might just be the "lag" and not actually knowing if I'm hitting the notes or not.

With all the 3-note chords and insane solos, it doesn't look like I'll beat it in one sitting like I did with GH2 and GH:80s. I might actually get tired, which only happens when I play Six. (I can play Jordan all the way through without getting tired, I just can't hit the notes good enough =p)

SuperDK Oct 26, 2007 07:03 PM

::breathes a sigh of relief::

Through the Fire and Flames: 100% completed on EXPERT*

3 STARS

Actually passed it yesterday, but I did it again today. My score sucks though, so I guess I shouldn't be too happy. =/

Anyway, I think I'll pick up the 360 version sometime, maybe. If I do that, then I will also get the Rock Band bundle to have a full set without having to get another guitar seperately.

Edit: To clear things up, I'm not a great GH player. I've lost at 1% many times in TtFaF. Not really anymore though.

*This is how it is noted after you lose; completion of the song.

Wall Feces Oct 26, 2007 07:30 PM

100%? Come on now. You mean you beat the song, right? Not 100% notes hit?

SuperDK Oct 26, 2007 07:49 PM

Whoops, guess I should have said I 3 starred it. >_>
Its pretty obvious I can't get 100% notes hit. There's like 3700-ish notes.

Anyway, yeah, I suck.

I'm going to edit just so I don't confuse more people...

Golfdish from Hell Oct 27, 2007 01:13 AM

Heh, I like how "Talk Dirty to Me" is one of the 1st Tier songs this time around, when "Nothin' But a Good Time" was a fifth tier song in Rock the 80's.

Damn, reading all this makes me want to chip my PS2 instead of waiting the 20-some hours for the midnight launch. *Sigh* Guess I can always do another 1P run on II to get ready.

I think I'm one of those players who'll just end up being totally content with playing around on hard mode. My fingers hurt just watching all those 3-note chords (hopefully the GYO ones are in the vast minority).

Slayer X Oct 27, 2007 01:44 AM

Man, I downloaded the PS2 version and it's not too bad. It still suffersfrom the odd technical stutter if you're playing in 16:9 and Progressive Scan. Also the load times are looooooong (no longer then the other PS2 ones). Not that you really notice while you're playing, but the PS2 graphics suck a LOT, especially after playing next-gen games for so long, as well as the 360 demo for GH3.

I haven't been trying my hardest to get too far in GH3 yet, want to save the surprises for when I get my PS3 copy. However right now I'm stuck on Barracuda -Expert. Probably all for the better anyhow.

scotty Oct 27, 2007 01:48 AM

I downloaded the ps2 version today. It's better than I expected, I haven't heard a few of these songs before but they are enjoyable to play. I started on expert and got to "The Metal" 6th tier, and it's starting to get difficult

SuperDK Oct 27, 2007 04:54 AM

Actually, for some strange reason, the game seems to stop momentarily when you use your star power (PS2 version). It's kinda weird. I don't really know if it affects much, but I messed up a lot during Raining Blood because it stopped for a bit after using SP. Could just be me sucking. Not sure if it's because I have a burned copy (!). There's a good chance that's why it spazzes out.

Before I forget to mention it, Co-op encore songs cannot be played in Single Player Career, but can be played in Quick-play. However, I believe Battle songs cannot be played at all, unless you are playing Single Player Career (which is a shame, since the final stage is awesome). Not sure if the songs are available when battling with a friend.

Honestly, besides the beginning, I think TtFaF can be easily done if you are good at solos (or at least mashing through solos; I'm not that great at it). Jordan was difficult because it doesn't even feel possible to be able to hit all the notes during Solo B/C (which are easily the most difficult parts). As for stamina issues, yes, its a bit hard to play for seven and a half minutes, with all the constant strumming. TtFaF is still loads of fun though.

If anything doesn't make any sense, it's because I'm tired as fuck right now. Just ignore it, I guess.

AlphaDeus Oct 27, 2007 09:12 AM

That's the main reason I think I'll have an easier time with TTFAF as opposed to Jordan. Jordan was basically a "Wall of notes" that I couldn't decipher musically. But when I listen to the solos in TTFAF I can hear, understand and logically place on a scale each note of pretty much every solo.

I'm going to jump into this game expert. I'll be playing it all night tonight after midnight :p

That's my exact argument... I don't see how this song can be any harder than Jordan because while Jordan kicks ass, the solo has no rhythm or melody. TtFaF is atleast discernible.

Plus I fucking rock at solos... I'm going to try and beat it on expert in one try.

Rock Oct 27, 2007 01:06 PM

Holy crap, how do you unlock the coop encores for single player career mode or quick play?

Besides this, the game is awesome (PS2 version), but I hate playing through filler songs to get to the awesome stuff.

Wall Feces Oct 27, 2007 02:32 PM

I just read that the GH3 Les Paul will work fine with Rock Band, the Rock Band stratocaster won't work on GH3. What a god damn waste.

Rock Oct 27, 2007 02:38 PM

The controller issue is the main reason I'm not getting Rock Band. Being able to use my old Guitar Hero PS2 controller with Guitar Hero 2, Rocks the 80s and now Guitar Hero 3 was awesome.

Slayer X Oct 27, 2007 02:54 PM

I'm not trying to outdue anyone but listen to my state here.

I bought GH1 for the PS2 when it came out, they only sold it in bundles so I bought 2 bundles so that I would have 2 guitars. Then GH2 came out which was fine so I just bought the software.

Then GH2-X360 came out so I picked that up with the intention of getting Rock Band later on to make for a second controller.

After the announcement that RB for the X360 would not be wireless I switched my pre-order to the PS3 version.

I then decided that I'm now going to get GH3 for the PS3 on sunday so that I'll have 2 guitars for Rock Band.

Lastly, my PS2 guitars are pretty worn, and after hearing that the GH3 guitar for the PS3 will not support the PS2 games I then purchased a PS2 official Wireless guitar.

So let's add all that up shall we.

PS2 -> 3
X-360 1
PS3 -> 1 + Rock Band in November making it 2

Yeah, that's a shit load of stuff sitting around my room. I think I'm going to make a wall rack or something.

DarthSavior Oct 27, 2007 03:12 PM

Gah. The Gamestop I reserved my copy at isn't having a midnight opening. :( I'll have to wait for an extra 10 hours to get it, then.

Anyone (beside myself) getting the Wii version?

wvlfpvp Oct 27, 2007 04:50 PM

Jordan's retarded (compared to playing it IRL) because, honestly, nobody but Buckethead could play the ingame one perfect and it's HARDER than playing. I mean, do you HEAR the tremolo pedal that he's going crazy with? YOU DON'T HAVE TO HIT THE NOTES THAT MUCH THANKS TO THAT. Grrrr, person who came up with the playingness. Grrr.

AlphaDeus Oct 27, 2007 05:41 PM

I managed to snag a copy a day early (spur of the moment thing, i was actually checking my sears to see if they had a 360 elite, but they had GH3 on the shelf so I brought it up to be rang up expecting it not to go through.) I didn't even have my credit card out I figured it would be stopped by the register. I figured it would get stopped then I would just shrug it off and ask if he had a 360 elite. It went though, I got the game and I've been playing it for about 5-6 hours nonstop.

I beat Expert Career. I only failed one song the first time playing (Raining Blood- the beginning didn't get me, it was the insanely fast trills at the end- I earned the "almost made it" achievement with this song =p). I also failed the Guitar Battle vs. the final boss, but that's pretty much hit or miss for anyone. It's more luck than skill. I 5-starred almost every song first time through except for the following:

Slipknot - Before I Forget
Queens of the Stone Age - 3's and 7's
Slayer - Raining Blood

The 3-note chords in this game are killer AWESOME. They definitely add a new layer of challenge to the game.

I haven't messed with the bonus songs too much. This game is definitely worth picking up. :D If you want to track my progress, I'm IKarusZino on the official GH forum too.

Tube Oct 27, 2007 07:21 PM

So far the soundtrack isn't as good as other GH games, but I have to say that the guitarhero.com integration is awesome.

Here's my GH3 profile: http://www.guitarhero.com/accounts/203016

Yep, and I'll use that Bluetooth Guitar on my PC as a gamepad!
