Well, it seems like it takes Square-Enix an average of 6 or more months to localize a game. I'm guessing we'll see it 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2008.

Additional Spam:
UNLESS they set the project aside to focus on more shitty overdone Final Fantasy ports. Then we'll see it sometime in 2009.

Shitty overdone Final Fantasy ports? In my Squenix?

It's more likely than you think

I'm hoping when SO2 does come out here they use the same terrible voice actors for the english dub. UNEXPECTEDLY WEAK!!!!!!

I'm personally not buying it unless it does.

Because god damn it, that was worth about 20 points and I want every single one of them.

Forsety Oct 7, 2007 05:25 PM

The fact that they are adding voice acting in the dialog sort of implies they won't. Why would they go to the effort to re-hire some of the worst VAs of all time to match the dialog with the battle voices? I'm pretty sure more than half of them were murdered from then until now anyway. Sorry guys.

Monkey King Oct 8, 2007 10:45 AM

I can't see! ;_;

But in all seriousness, I might want to actually be able to use Precis this time around. I doubt they'd be able to call all these guys back in for additional lines anyway. I strongly suspect it was like Shining Force 3 where they just got all the playtesters to do the dub or something. Heck, what if they change (or translate differently) all the spell names?

Yeah, that was some bad stuff in the original release. I don't have any preferences about who does the voices in the new version, but I do hope that whatever they do, they allow players to choose between English and Japanese (if there's room on the UMD.) Even if they get the same quality as Final Fantasy XII (though I seriously doubt they would throw that level of refinement towards the project...)

Kuhazan Oct 13, 2007 01:43 PM

it would be nice if it were actually a remake and not a direct port of the PS1 game with practically the same sprites and graphics :(

Zhuge Liang Oct 14, 2007 11:21 PM

I surely hope that SO4 will be far more than the sorry sight that was SO3. SE owes us one after that debacle.

Or goodness forbid they take the low road and actually go through with a FF VII remake, perish the thought.

Well, no reason to do more work than is necessary - although how many times do people have to point to the quotes from the director himself saying that SO2 is going to be heavily remade so that it's like a new game to all the people who played it before? They'll have to draw a few new graphics at least for the new playable charcters being added.

Besides which, you talk like the old graphics were somehow bad. I for one was quite happy to see that they brought the same sprite artist back to redo SO1. He does good work.

Kuhazan Oct 19, 2007 01:08 AM

they weren't bad... the shots we've seen just don't seem to have that same quality.... as it appears to my eyes...to make the game fit on the PSP screen its as if they've zoomed in on the 2D image... which will make it look more grainy... the new character artwork however looks nice a crisp... maybe its just because its unfinished and some tweaking will be done...

Site updated with the SO Eternal Edition bundle :

Well if the back of the psp slim is the only thing different, then I'm sure others who haven't purchased a slim yet will be happy to get this. Im not that impressed with it. It also comes with that little bag to fit the psp but it was too hideous and boring to upload ;p.

Asa Nov 6, 2007 02:51 PM

I agree, the pouch is hideous. Looks like a very, very tacky makeup bag (I myself have a delicious pink soft pouch that looks like a makeup pouch that I love, but wouldn't be caught dead with that space disaster known as the Star Ocean PSP pouch).

Thankfully, I think the Star Ocean PSP is very nice and simple. I love the design as it looks like a tattoo and the felicia blue looks beautiful. Looks very "wintery" to me. The way the design cuts off on the inside edge of the PSP near the UMD hatch looks a teensy bit off, but for the most part... very nice.

Nall Nov 6, 2007 06:42 PM

That PSP looks awesome; one of the best limited versions I've seen. I'm actually kinda excited about this game. I've played the SNES version slightly but never really enjoyed the battle system. This version looks loads more enjoyable.

I agree. I was always a fan of SO2, and sprites were pretty detailed and colorful for the time it came out. Higher-res sprites would have been nice, but I think that's asking too much for what looks like a straight port. At least the character art looks nicer this time around.

chato Dec 11, 2007 11:19 PM

The site updated with lots of good stuff and characters plus a new full video. Looks freakin awesome! Norio Wakamoto works his voice as Ashlay Barnbelt!. But seriously, we should get more stuff on SO2. The end of the new video shows something ;).

According to RPGFan, Star Ocean 4 is coming to PS3 and Xbox360 in three episodes. Why do I get the feeling Square-Enix forced them into that three installments bullshit?

Wow, that's hardcore. Usually we just yell at people who keep spreading known misinformation.

PKO Dec 13, 2007 05:20 PM

Oh my bad for posting that and missing the other thread. I guess we'll have to wait longer before we see it announced for PS3 and 360 :P

chato Dec 27, 2007 11:13 AM

Other than myself, is anyone getting a taste of the first hour during gameplay? So far , it looks like fun and hitting the circle button 3 times for ratix's attack is somewhat interesting. Was it the same as the original ?

btw, propz to them for throwing in the SO2 sleep theme for part 1. So what do you guys think? So far I have 3 haters and 2 other friends of mine who are enjoying this more than me since they can understand japanese =/.

EDIT :

SO4 trailer out. Not too long but definately looking good.

Gametrailers.com - Star Ocean 4 - Japanese Debut Trailer

EDIT: Reminderto those who are playing but unaware of Cisu

Spoiler:

If you made Cisu leave your party, then you lose him for good. Make sure you do this in the town of HOT to turn in that BRR thing to that store place then you get the choice if you still want him around (1st choice) or choose the 3rd choice (so he gave you an ougi and you get to recruit Ashlay) so he'll leave your party in good terms and not end up all emo and shit.

HUGE UPDATE

As we all know, SO 2 comes out tomorrow. I'll be sure to grab and install it in my psp. First Departure kicked ass and I was impressed. Anybody else finish it other than myself? I recommend it =]. For me the replay value was about 3-4 times only cause of the PA's. If you're an impatient guy like myself and wants to read through text on gamefaqs. go ahead and dl it. Otherwise wait patiently ^^;. Now for SO2 :

STAR OCEAN Second Evolution X^[I[V2 OFFICIAL SITE

Wow. Her weapon is the Finger, or rather a poker. This looks interesting but isn't she the cutest thing so far? Hey. Bring on ALLEN TAX

Dark Nation Apr 1, 2008 06:35 PM

Wait, First Depature has already been released?!

In the US or Moonland? I wouldn't mind picking it up if its been domestically released.

chato Apr 1, 2008 07:56 PM

no.... Just in japan. There's not a US release for the US version yet.

Manny Biggz Apr 2, 2008 02:05 AM

Welsch looks a bit too much like Precis to me. Let's hope she doesn't come off as horribly annoying.
